He is just a Side Note in the bands history, but Bob Brunning (the first bassist in 1967) has written a great book about British Blues bands from the Sixties called "Blues - the British Connection", which i recommend to anyone interested in that Music and scene of the 1960s.
I would love a DDD on Ween. Another band who kept switching styles even within the same album. Like the 90s version of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
I got chills all over my body hearing Nick talk about Rumors. Truly an excellent album all around. I still listen to it, to this very day. It sounds genuinely atemporal. It springs all kinds of emotions, and that's what I would call successful when it comes to music.

As a 40 something, I've come full circle. Fleetwood Mac has been shown to me by every cool parent when I was teenager, back when music was everything. Now it is being shown to me in depth by someone of an age range I could have fathered. It blows my mind when I think about it, that the music of the 80s and 90s now is like 50s and 60s we're to me as a teenager.
Wow. This was really well done and very well researched. I own 46 Fleetwood Mac albums, including bootlegs. This may be the best retrospective of the band I've seen. Hope you don't mind me pointing out two minor mistakes. Peter Green didn't have a name for the instrumental he recorded and John Mayall suggested calling it Fleetwood Mac because he recorded the song with Fleetwood and McVie. Also Blues jam at Chess is not a live album. It was recorded at Chess studios which was going to be closing. Much as I love Rumours, my favorite Mac album is Tusk.
@@grettalemabouchou6779 I've collected them from different eras. Some from Peter Green days, some from Bob Welch days and most from the Stevie and Lindsey era. I have several from radio broadcasts, so those are good quality. You can find a lot of shows on RUclips.
Legit my favorite band and honestly it's impossible to pick a favorite album. Rumours is obviously the best but I have a soft spot for Tango In The Night. They're just so great
Very well done! My first time hearing a Fleetwood Mac song was in 1975. I was 14 or 15, and was hanging out with my girlfriend. Rhiannon came on the radio. It was magic. I also remember all the radio stations going on about the price of the Tusk album. I tried to record it but it didn't turn out well. Again, great job! Oh, Steely Dan and Talking Heads would make great deep dives. Rush too, but there are already a couple of decent docs for them. Heck, there were already some Fleetwood Mac docs out but that didn't stop you haha. Or an Adrian Belew dive. He sure made the rounds.
Early Fleetwood Mac is SO underrated. It's basically stoner rock way before that was a thing. I would put them with the likes of budgie or black sabbath.
Don't be, it's my favorite as well! I love Rumours and Tusk, but there's something about Tango that just hits that perfect spot for me. I even like Family Man, which I know a lot of folks do not lol
In the Super Deluxe version of Rumours there is Planets of the Universe. Stevie went on to include the song in her solo album but this version is much more intimate and superior in my opinion. Y'all should check it out
This is probably one of the most helpful episodes in this series so far for me. I’ve really only been familiar with the second self-titled album, Rumours, Tusk, and a few songs outside of those albums. I wanted to go deeper but had no idea which ones were the good ones, especially during the early 70s. So thank you for this one!
Quick mention that Fleetwood Mac also helped with the musical transition from bluesy hard rock to heavy metal with "Oh Well (Part 1)". Not that most metalheads will admit that a band like the Mac ever had anything to do with metal, just like the Osmonds.
I just fell in love with Stevies songwriting ever since hearing Rhiannon. Has never changed. But the mix of Stevie, Christine and Lindsey is what made Fleetwood Mac so interesting. I'm grateful I got to see them twice!
not enough people talk about silver springs, one of the b sides from rumours. it’s one of the most stunningly beautiful songs ever written, if not the most stunningly beautiful song ever written
Just wanted to throw in a thanks for this video - not only did you sum up a complicated story while making me laugh along the way, but as a casual Fleetwood Mac fan I was so excited to check out the playlist you assembled and it did not disappoint. (Damn, “Mystery to Me” is a real gem of an album, and Bob Welch deserves so much more credit for his contributions in retrospect.) I was fortunate to see the Rumours lineup live in 2015 and they still put on a phenomenal show then. What a talented group of people all around.
I was born in 1970, so this is a sonic journey through my childhood. Elton John was my first musical obsession, and then I fell for Fleetwood Mac. I was a basically a toddler and I loved these guys. Sentimental Lady takes me right back to my shag carpet childhood.
In my adult life, I've always been a bigger fan of early Fleetwood Mac. So it was really fun seeing how people had no idea that they were a completely different band!
I was conceived to Rumors. In a state of hypnotic memory regression it was revealed to me that Landslide was the first song I heard after being born and brought home.
I wanna point out that the people they added for the album time, Dave Mason and Bekka Bramlett have connections to the 1960s British blues scene. Dave Mason was known for being in the band Traffic, and Bekka Bramlett was the daughter of Bonnie Bramlett of Delaney and Bonnie (which Eric Clapton and George Harrison played with)
my favorite Fleetwood Mac song is "Go Your Own Way" because it's both a fuckin bop and has an angry tension to the vocals that always catches me off guard in the chorus.
Okay, so I hadn’t known about this channel until very recently. The algorithm fed me your Glee video, and then several months later it fed me the 90s video, and now I’m hooked. I have ALWAYS wanted to get into several bands but been daunted by the history and backlog of some like Fleetwood Mac. This not only gives a clear breakdown but I REALLY appreciate your Spotify playlists for lining it all up in an easy listening order! These are great video ideas.
I literally cannot get enough of Peter Greens fleetwood mac. I consider them perfect, i wish more people knew of them. Not that the Stevie and lindsay fleetwood mac wasn’t good, just peters was so different. Definitely a top 5 for me
In London people crossed out “Clapton” is God and replaced it with Green(Baum) is God. Had the pleasure of knowing and listening to both. Just pinch me!!!! 🍀
'Sentimental Lady' is hands down my favorite Fleetwood Mac song (Oh Well is a close second). Bob Welch was a genius imo for that number. But very specifically the Bare Trees version. I'm not as hot on the adult contemporary solo version on his French Kiss album, even though it's still his song.
Mick Fleetwood and George Harrison were brothers in law for several years. Its one of the least known things in rock music, and is so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've read Pattie Boyd's autobiography and it is amazing.
Jenny Boyd has two incredible books too!! I was singing on MICK’S solo album “the Vistor” with George and he asked me to come to his home Friar Park to sing with him on his movie score for “The Time Bandits”. Not long after John Lennon was murdered and Jon Bonham passed. I felt blessed to be there with Mick to try and comfort them. And sing too I must add. Sorry. I had to name drop. At Jimmy Page’s
These guys definitely have one of the most interesting evolutions of any band in history. Either you started with them as they set off as a premier blues band or you joined in the Buckingham/Nicks era where they went gangbusters, but either group would be amazed that that's where they started/ended up, like imagine telling people who bought Rumours in 77 that they'd been around for 9 years and had already made 10 studio albums and had a revolving door of some 14 or 15 musicians? Also, 'Then Play On' is easily my favorite album of theirs front to back. Still in the Peter Green era so you still get one of the greatest British blues players of all time, but this time with the added genius of Danny Kirwan, and if you tack on Then Play On era singles 'Oh Well' and 'The Green Manalishi', the album is practically overpowered
The mock Fleetwood Mac released a few albums under the name Stretch and had a big hit with "why did you do it " inspired by the fiasco with the manager.
Oh yes! Mic covering them means more people get to learn their really interesting history, going from a British blues band more similar to Cream all the way to the Mac everyone knows.
I have never really gotten into their music before but after hearing about Christine McVie’s passing I checked out your DDD to hear about their history and discography and you did an amazing job highlighting the individual member’s contributions, especially hers, so great job Mr. The Snare!
Nicely done. My take is that the wild success of RUMOURS hit them all hard. As Nicks said in an interview once, it was so much money “[she] went insane…it was money everywhere”. It threw them off their game but at different times: each writer has a different album they stumble on. TUSK suffers mainly from McVie unable to write the same radio-hook heavy songs as she does on the albums before AND after, while Buckingham is weird and brilliant and Nicks delivers her best batch of songs ever. Then MIRAGE: McVie comes back with stronger songs, Nicks is strong, but Buckingham falters, licking his wounds over the “failure” of TUSK. Then TANGO: McVie is strong, Buckingham is strong, but Nicks stumbles for the first time, her only good song 90% written by someone else. After that, other than THE DANCE one of the three is always missing; of the following albums SAY YOU WILL had the potential to be another classic Mac album had McVie been involved and had it been shorter.
this is a pipe dream of mine but an oingo boingo DDD would be so much fun, especially since their discography is "complete" & there's so many interesting facts and detours in the band's history. not to mention danny elfman's career following their breakup just adds to the band's mystique. once again fantastic work!
Great video as always, Mr. The. I've been dying for a Fleetwood Mac DDD for ages, and you really delivered! A few suggestions to add to the poll: Creedence Clearwater Revival: One of those short lived, but big impact bands. Just an incredible 6 album run, and also Mardi Gras. Still one of the best and most influential bands of the 60s. The Police: Another short lived, but big impact band, except all 5 of their albums are excellent. It'd also be funny to explore the trivia that the drummer would compose the Spyro series. Talking Heads: One of the most important new wave bands ever. Also just want to hear you talk about how weird of a man David Byrne is. Elton John: Kinda surprised he wasn't on the poll already. Not sure what else to say here. A living legend with one of the most interesting lives of any musician, and a discography varying from classic hits to incredible deep cuts. Sparks: One of the most influential bands ever that doesn't receive mainstream attention. Your favorite band's favorite band. Recently got a boost in popularity from Edgar Wright's documentary. Just a fascinating body of work. Beach House: I actually don't know too much about them, but my sister really likes them, and she says they're the most consistent band she's ever heard. Just wanted to see how true that is, and want an excuse to check out more of their stuff. I'm also parroting the other people in the comments suggesting Weird Al Yankovic and The Beach Boys. Those would be incredible videos.
I have two albums/songs in my life that I always connect to the very special feeling I had when I first heard them. One of them is Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. I heard it in the car on the way to a holiday with my parents. It was the first car we had that had a radio, so listening to music in general was special. But I remember so clearly waking up after having left from home at like 3am, that moment when you come to and you're suddenly far from home already, and my dad put on Rumours (a CD he had copied from vinyl or cassette, I don't remember), and the second I heard those first beats of Second Hand News, staring out at the motorway, I knew I was hearing something truly special. That feeling stuck with me ever since and the song still gives me goosebumps.
(The second song/album is Genesis' Foxtrot, which my dad also played in the car. I was absolutely baffled by Watcher of the skies, it was unlike anything I had ever heard before. My mum's only comment was "that's music that should be listened to on headphones...")
This video is such a great showcase of Christine's writing. I only just watched it for the first time recently but am coming back to appreciate it once more given the news. RIP
I'd love to see a DDD on U2 one day, they've set their legacy on fire several times to younger generations but their prime work deserves a lot of respect

I love that one cuz Mick looks like he’s in tears We called it his “Plea For Love!” I sent it to him for Maui help. Poor babe. 😢
RIP Christine McVie 💚 watching this now hits different, damn
He is just a Side Note in the bands history, but Bob Brunning (the first bassist in 1967) has written a great book about British Blues bands from the Sixties called "Blues - the British Connection", which i recommend to anyone interested in that Music and scene of the 1960s.
I would love a DDD on Ween. Another band who kept switching styles even within the same album. Like the 90s version of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
I would give my left leg for this
I 100% agree with this.
They are on the poll so let’s hope.
@@ringer1324 where can I find the poll?
YES. Let's make it happen
"Rhiannon" is one of the best songs ever written. I adore the live version. Nicks is an outstanding vocalist.
Fun fact: Mic The Snare either quit or was fired 17 times during the making of this video!
Christine's songs were a breathe of fresh air. She was tough and talented...rest in peace darling.💜🦋🐝🦋💜
I got chills all over my body hearing Nick talk about Rumors. Truly an excellent album all around. I still listen to it, to this very day. It sounds genuinely atemporal. It springs all kinds of emotions, and that's what I would call successful when it comes to music.
Is amazing how he consistently keeps overlookling "I'm so afraid" through the entire video. Despite being top 10 material
"Mystery To Me", man... "Why" is such an incredible tune. Christine's vocals?!?! Hell yes I'm here for it. And that slide guitar open? Oh, boy!
Good call on the slide
Fun fact: Stevie is going to be on 2 tracks on the new gorillaz album coming out in February 2023.
i cant tell if this is a joke or not lmao
its released, its called oil
Really shocked this isn’t past an hour long given how many damn albums there are.
I've always seen Bare Trees referred to on forums as many people's favourite underrated/underappreciated Fleetwood Mac album so it's awesome seeing it getting this kind of coverage
I will forever love Stevie Nicks. When my grandmother died she gave me amazing advice on moving forward in life.
Christine Was Most Awesome & The Very Beautiful Sweet Songbird ❤️❤️🙏🙏 She Left A Beautiful Sweet & Awesome Legacy ❤️❤️🙏🙏 Love Her Beautiful Sweet & Heavenly Peaceful Voice ❤️❤️🙏🙏 Love Her ❤️❤️🙏🙏 I Have Listened To Christine & Fleetwood Mac Since The 1970S And Now In My 70S ! My Absolute Favorite Is Christine Anne Perfekt McVie 💕💕🙏🙏 Christines Love Songs Were & Still So Uplifting & calming ! Christines Muzik Plays All Day & Everyday ! God Bless Sweet Christine And All That Loved Her Too ❤️❤️🙏🙏💕💕🙏🙏🏵️🌺🌸💐🌼🍀❤️💛💙💚🇺🇸🇩🇪💛❤️💙💚
I absolutely love Tango in the Night, and I'm now coming to the realisation that it might've been their last good album.
Wow Frank I would love to hear the bootlegs!!!
@@grettalemabouchou6779 I've collected them from different eras. Some from Peter Green days, some from Bob Welch days and most from the Stevie and Lindsey era. I have several from radio broadcasts, so those are good quality. You can find a lot of shows on RUclips.
Me too
@@itsakittyxoxwow. The actual Sara from the song? Honored to have you reply to my comment.
@@frankingenito Jim Ladd has a good 3 parter from 1978ish. Post Forum gig.
Legit my favorite band and honestly it's impossible to pick a favorite album. Rumours is obviously the best but I have a soft spot for Tango In The Night. They're just so great
Yes! One of my favorite bands ever. When I heard Rumours for the first time I fell in love with music all over again
Mystery to me is my favourite album from FM. And Why is my favourite track. I’m so pleased that someone else agrees!
Early Fleetwood Mac is SO underrated. It's basically stoner rock way before that was a thing. I would put them with the likes of budgie or black sabbath.
Personally, Tango In The Night is actually my favorite of Fleetwood Mac’s classic era.
I feel like such a loser when I tell people that, though. 😅
Don't be, it's my favorite as well! I love Rumours and Tusk, but there's something about Tango that just hits that perfect spot for me. I even like Family Man, which I know a lot of folks do not lol
I think Lindsay's songs have held up much better than Stevie's and Christine's from that album.
i love tango it’s probably my fave album by them :)
Neil Finn is a kiwi legend, hearing him play don't dream its over with one of the most famous bands of all time to a home crowd was truely phenominal
Got that right! I missed LB but that song is stellar. Talented and Saintly Neil is.
In the Super Deluxe version of Rumours there is Planets of the Universe. Stevie went on to include the song in her solo album but this version is much more intimate and superior in my opinion. Y'all should check it out
I almost cant believe that Dreams was written in 10 minutes, to write something that sounds so... flawless in such a short time, amazing.
I loved the subtlety of Brett's delivery of Rumors. Thank you for the FOTC scene inclusion 😂
"The Dance" is my favourite album of all time. I absolutely adore everything about that album.
not enough people talk about silver springs, one of the b sides from rumours. it’s one of the most stunningly beautiful songs ever written, if not the most stunningly beautiful song ever written
Seriously, my favorite Fleetwood Mac song. No idea why it wasn't included on the album proper.
A Genesis or King Crimson DDD would be wonderful
"Paddle backwards on a river of cocaine" is an excellent line
'Sentimental Lady' is hands down my favorite Fleetwood Mac song (Oh Well is a close second). Bob Welch was a genius imo for that number. But very specifically the Bare Trees version. I'm not as hot on the adult contemporary solo version on his French Kiss album, even though it's still his song.
I appreciate you dedicating so much time to the early years as I often feel like they are a footnote and the primary focus goes to the Rumours era
That's pretty much the MO of DDD
We recorded at Jimmy’s studio the Mil and syed with him and his family I asked him to play Zep l and we cranked it. Pinch me again
Please god do one on Queens of the Stone Age or Massive Attack (maybe even RHCP, Tool, NIN or Muse too)
"If you wanna get into Fleetwood Mac..."
I mean it doesn't seem that hard to be a member of the band, sure I'll join.
Hypnotized came out when I was 6 years old. Been hooked ever since then. 🐧
This was such a great/fun glimpse into Fleetwood Mac. So many things I didn’t know, and so many tracks to check out. THANK YOU MR. SNARE.
According to the intro you mean Mr. The
Great work, again! Nice to see so much love for the Welch/Kirwan stuff, an unsung era.
"Love Is Dangerous When The Sun Goes Down In The Back Of My Mind"! What a great song!
Landslide isn't just my favourite Fleetwood Mac song. It's my favourite song of all time
That Black Magic Woman origin was a total surprise for me too
Bare Trees is definitely one of the most underrated album of all time
Fleetwood Mac helped me bond closer with my Dad and for that I am ever grateful
rest in peace christine mcvie!! ❤one of the greatest musicians ever
The Snare!
I'd love a DDD on Florence + the Machine
The Dekalb Illinois Raising Cane’s bathroom door reference is so wildly niche. I love it
Great video as always, Mr. The. I've been dying for a Fleetwood Mac DDD for ages, and you really delivered!
A few suggestions to add to the poll:
Creedence Clearwater Revival: One of those short lived, but big impact bands.
Definitely should do one on Queens of the Stone Age, and I think a lot of people here agree with me
100%
yessir
probably my favourite band that isn't Radiohead ever, would love a DDD
👍
Love the flight of the conchords clip at the beginning!
This video is such a great showcase of Christine's writing. I only just watched it for the first time recently but am coming back to appreciate it once more given the news. RIP
Crazy, I was watching this 2 days ago before Christine died. May she rest.
I'd love to see a DDD on U2 one day, they've set their legacy on fire several times to younger generations but their prime work deserves a lot of respect
Live versions of I'm So Afraid is what im loving recently
F YES!
