Cheez has just broken this world record by, um, a lot. GGs Cheez!
ruclips.net/video/zE3hQnGFX48/видео.html
@@Moistye you are absolutely right, every video ever made about a record that has since been broken should be taken down from the internet forever, rendering useless the hard work of those who make the videos
@@Moistye "why would you still have this up?"
i) This really is a silly and obnoxious thing to say... Short lived though it may have been, this video is discussing the WR at the time it was created.
ii) Ironically, there probably isn't much to "break down" in Cheez's record. While Andy's record had quite a bit of tricky and clever strategy, Cheez's record sort of comes down to "rolling allows Cheez to play higher than everyone else". So much so, in fact, that I get the impression that Cheez could improve on his time relatively easily, if he wanted to.
I can see why Cheez's method was more effective. He spent most of the game (about 240 pieces' worth) saving 8 frames per piece over PixelAndy due to basing his stack at 8 high rather than 4. That's 1920 frames saved, or 32 seconds.
He lost a good chunk of this by not going for tetrises as much as Andy, so in practice he was probably more like 1000 frames ahead with this metric. (their AVERAGE heights of placement were by no means 4 tiles apart)
A bit of that is lost by having to take more singles, doubles, and triples, but it's not really that bad. Line clears are 17-20 frames each, while at a height of 8 and above, the spawn delay is generally 14-16, with 18 too rare to really be worth factoring in.
(edit: line clears override the spawn delay after placement, btw)
Even if he only went for singles, worst case he'd only lose 600 frames, but on average he'd lose 450 frames. Given his healthy inclusion of doubles, triples, and tetrises, it was probably more like 200-300 frames lost. On speedrun dot com he's 720 frames ahead (unsure why there's no millis) so my estimates are probably not too far off.
@@LuisPereira-bn8jq He doesn't want to improve, too much RNG to beat it (according to speedrun.com submission)
@@kkmac7247 Fair enough. Although, given that it seems to have taken him only a day or two to beat the record, I doubt it would need *that* much RNG. I'm guessing he just doesn't think the category is worth investing in, which is understandable.
Not to mention that no one is getting close to this record before rolling becomes more widespread.
the fact that this script under 5 minutes is the actual world record
ikr? I was surprised when it ended!
Literally 20 minutes after he breaks the 300k speedrun too LMAO perfect timing
yeah, I saw that right as I was grabbing the link to his channel when uploading the video haha
@@aGameScout Lots of content in nes tetris lately, keepin u busy
these quick breakdowns are fun, you should do more of them!
ok Cheez...
Don't you just love it when GameScout uploads a video about a record which's been broken 2 minutes after the video came out
It's 2 separate records, PixelAndy's brand new one is getting 300k points instead of 100 lines. Still quite a coincidence that the upload times ended up so close haha
Nice video, it would be a shame if someone were to beat Andy's record a day after this video comes out.
Oh...
At the moment Cheez is almost getting to choose which WR to break. Guess he saw GameScout's video and thought "let's make that one next".
@@LuisPereira-bn8jq Yes, but also not. Alex recently took level, Cheez still doesn't have the score record and doesn't seem to be chasing it, Eric still has lines IIRC.
He probably could take all of them (back) if he so desired, but I don't know if he wants to or has the time.
@@PeterJavi "Yes, but also not."
Yes, dude. That's why the "almost" in "almost getting to choose" is there.
Not all records are equal, as some would take far longer to achieve. But Cheez basically has a new tool, rolling, that allows him to try strategies that weren't possible before.
As far I can see, this latest record doesn't have much of a strategy beyond "just play pretty high". Heck, there's likely room for Cheez to beat this record by just playing one or two lines higher. As opposed to PixelAndy who needed some clever optimization for his.
Well made, precise and to-the-point!
almost every other RUclipsr would have 5 mins of garbage talking included in the script. love the straight-forwardness here!
thanks, tried to keep it to what was essential and not pointlessly stretch it out to 8 minutes
@@aGameScout fix the title this is a former wr. Cheez holds the world record now stop being lazy.
Boom Tetris for jeff
32 minutes ago, cheze broke the record
Not just broke, but destroyed it by 12 seconds.
And with a totally different strategy, he' just builds a tree to play at the top almost the time, and is like: Space? Where we are going, we dont need space
@@willzyx23 this is a strategy used by TAS for Tetris runs, I don't think I had ever seen a real person do it, it's insane
@@willzyx23 i agree.
The record was unespected and mindblowing,
And then Cheez just comes out and smashes the record.......
You are the best at analyzing NES Tetris games. Always such a pleasure to watch!
I love tetris and I love speedrunning. This is amazing
great analysis. Never seen a Tetris speedrun so interesting stuff. Keep up the good work.
I appeared at 0:00 for a split second in a aGameScout video. My life is complete.
Nice video as always scout!
cheez set a new world record this is cursed
Yes, pease do more comparisons like this!
I love your commentating
I love how much you can learn from each of scouts videos. He really does serious research.
Boom 💥Another video from GameScout
It was really fun and interesting to see the newest record-breaking game and the previous record-breaking game side-by-side! :D Really helps us understand everything!! :)
Yes. That was a really good choice. It helped make the video even more entertaining to watch..
Would love more breakdowns like this, especially for wr in modern Tetris as well
Epic video as always man!
5 min topic video! Great video!
Outdated in one day. A new WR.
Thx Cheez.
great format!
Great video
I don’t even play Tetris, but the analysis is interesting to say the least. Great work!
And then there's cheez...
That's sick!! Andy's a genius!
Nice animations
god I love these videos
its strange I never really thought about tetris as a speedrunning game. I love hearing about the various speedruns there are though
This video aged well
It is time to take back the record
That was so amazing and also saddening because my DAS can't do many of those strats as effectively... but man rolling would tear this up. Someone call Cheez
"but man rolling would tear this up. Someone call Cheez"
So *you* the one to blame!
Just kidding. But Cheez indeed just went and "tore this up" by 11 seconds or so earlier today:
ruclips.net/video/zE3hQnGFX48/видео.html
Andy just got the 300k sprint world record too.
Boom Tetris for Andy
The Tetris speedrunning discord was just raided before this video speak of the devil.
Oh cool, which discord is that?

Hi, I am a bit confused about how to download tetris on a pc because I want to start playing
Apparently it is now a former record. It didn’t take very long
PickeledAndy is good at the Tetroid it seems
I would like to see this become a competitive part of tournaments, rather than just a side-event.
But I don't really think that's going to happen.
Yeah, I second that.
Cheez beat this like five minutes ago
Can you start on ANY level? Because if so this record was shattered with a level 29 start.
Level 19 is the highest you can start at on an unmodified version of the game.
You have to upgrade the video
What's the site called for the leaderboard?
www.speedrun.com/tetrisnes
andy poggers
I've always wondered why building a center well wasn't the meta, is it just a matter of comfort?
It's difficult to maintain 2 separate stacks.
I get this out the way
2019 Experience Pt. 2?
wtf, it looks like he gets all the pieces he wants
of course cheez's 29 start runs breaks all these records...
unofficially yes, but technically it doesn't count for official records because you can't start on level 29 in an unmodified version of the game.
@@aGameScout Heck of a point.
Now he did it from 19 start: ruclips.net/video/zE3hQnGFX48/видео.html
@@aGameScout "unofficially yes, but technically it doesn't count"
And Cheez took that personally...
Awesome. 😘🌈 Nice upload my friend.😊 Like it. 🤗👍
I bet that if you just made update videos once a month, people would be setting new random WR all the time. Build it, and they will come.
They are getting younger lol
hi agamescout
hello
Ayo bachess on a classic video? Pog
@@calvinbareiss3670 pog
Already obsolete cuz cheez
Do you have to start on llvl 19? Bc the way Cheez is playing atm, I can only imagine him beating it on a lvl 29 start
Yes, level 29 starts are only possible with game genies or mods so they are not allowed for official leaderboards
Bl4nk looks like a bootleg joji
pog
Can you do the speed run on 29 start. Cheez does a lot of things like that and is pretty good with rowling and if that is able I think he can beat those records.
Cheez's runs would not be allowed because he is using a game mod to do 29 starts (not possible in the original). However, he definitely could play very high up on 19 which would give him a shot at this record
@@aGameScout I believe I got Cheez to do the 100 lines. I commented on his latest video next thing I know. The next morning he has a new video that says 100 lines world record.😂 I didnt think he would actually do it.
12th!
I don't think you mentioned that getting Tetrises is better because you reduce the number of line clear delays.
It is mentioned as strategy #3
@@aGameScout Thanks. Not sure how I missed that.
Funny how the video is 1 second faster than my PAL 100 lines 0 start World Record lol. 4:16 < 4:17
First
congrats you won!
@@aGameScout hahah i always stop what im doing to watch your videos :D

Basicly it like c4w (center 4 wide) vs s4w (side 4 wide) in modern tetris 😂😂
