    Another thing to be aware of.. The Linknlink motion detector doesn't seem to be able to tell the difference between humans and animals. So, if you have cats, dogs or some large mutant species of rabbit, you might get false detections.

    Paul if your HDMI ARC/CEC isn't working try a different HDMI cable. Even with minimal strain on the cable they can degrade over time.
    USB-C lighting cables do the same and some devices are more sensitive than others to this degredation - I'm talking to you Rode Streamer X.
    I had intermittent problems with my Sonos AMP and LG TV until I switched to newer but identical class of HDMI cable. After that no issues with my setup. Weirdly the 'degraded' cable worked fine with my Dell monitor's arc port which was odd...

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks man, but the house we’ve moved into already had these cables plastered into the wall. I did try linking the tv and the av unit with different cables as a test and it performed better for reliability in connection but the hdmi-dec issue remained. For now I’m stuck with these old cables, but I have a decent work around now

    • @PhillipHilton
      @PhillipHilton 10 месяцев назад

      @@paulhibbert They plastered them in? Savages...real men use conduit. However, potentially not horrendous IF there is enough slack in the GAN boxes to put new connectors in.
      It's the same as most cables XLR, ETH, USB - they fail at the joints - if you have enough play that you can clip and reterminate it usually fixes the issue.
      If you can reterminate the cable I would.
      I want it noted on record here that I reterminated all of the ethernet connections in the last two apartments I lived in. Why? because the f*cking id*ots that wired up the place didn't know what they were doing. My network ran like a Swiss Watch afterwards...

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  10 месяцев назад +1

      If all those devices are connected to the receiver then you should be able to enable hdmi-cec in each device so that when the receiver is turned on and switched to their input that they automatically turn on. You might need to google (or probably easier to ask ChatGPT) how to enable hdmi-cec for each device.
      Then you can use the BroadLink blaster to turn the receiver on and switch its input on by doing the following…
      1. Add the remote and all its buttons to the LinknLink app using the wizard
      2. Create a scene in the LinknLink app that presses the right buttons to switch to the PS4
      3. Repeat step 2 for your other devices
      4. Use the scene in Alexa in a routine that can be started with your voice or with any of your other smart home equipment.

      @stevenechavarry8069 sorry, anywhere I’ve written BroadLink just switch it for LinknLink. I’m working on a BroadLink video so have them on the brain.
      ChatGPT is AI that is good at answering questions about almost anything and you can have a proper conversation with it to get help with practically anything. It should be able to walk you through enabling hdmi-cec on your devices and also answer questions such as “what does hdmi-cec do?

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@stevenechavarry8069 ok, so you need to get any old remote, preferably one you don’t use anymore, or that is used in a different room from the device it normally controls. Otherwise when all this is setup you will ask for the ps4 to come on and what will happen is both the ps4 AND the remotes original device will fire up. You MUST use an old remote you don’t use, or one from a different room where the original device won’t receive the signal.
      You then plug the Flirc into your PC, load up the software and select the PS4 from the menu so that you are programming the flirc to control a ps4
      Teach it each of the corresponding buttons on your old remote for power etc so that the Flirc will now listen to the remote codes from your old remote.
      Now plug the Flirc into your ps4 and see if you can control it using your old remote.
      If you can, then all you have to do is teach the same remote to the LinknLink blaster using their app, then you’ll be able to control the PS4 with both the old remote and by using the LinknLink app. Call the remote in the LinknLink app PlayStation
      From there you just enable the LinknLink Alexa skill and she will discover your PlayStation remote and from then on you should be able to say “turn PlayStation on” let me know if you get stuck

      No, the Google home can't trigger off the temp, but Alexa can with a work around. Create a virtual button in the LnL app and Alexa will be able to detect it. So in LnL app, if temp is too high, turn virtual button on. In Alexa app, if virtual button on, turn on AC.

    i got something simular happening when i ask google to turn on my discobar it will turn on everything realated such as the mixer, the turntables, the laptop etc. it will put all ledstrips to sound activated mode, it will turn on my disco lamps, my dmx controller, the blacklights and the lasers, meanwhile every 'normal' light will go to rainbowcolors if possible, if not they will be turned of. It will change my receiver to the dj mixer input, set the volume to my preferred mixing volume and turn of all sound effects and change it to 'direct' sound mode. (you don't want a delay in sound or echo when you are mixing music) it will also turn of the ambilghts in my tv. When i am done i ask google to turn of the discobar and everything returns to normal. I could add some sensors to do it without asking google but that is not a good idea for me because the discobar is what used to be the dining room and it is open to the living room but the sensor to notice if i am using my technics turntables is a good find from you that i may copy one day :-)

    Paul, Great video!
    Can you shine a light on how you keep all your smart home devices local and private through HA?
    I know that Alexa (and Google) doesn’t do that natively which is why I refuse to use any of their products. I see you always fall back on Alexa routines, speakers, etc as a part of your product presentations.
    Knowing you’ve highlighted HA as the backbone of your smart home in the past, I’ve made the assumption that you’re not ok with having your info processed in the cloud. It would be great if you could do a video showing us how we can use Alexa (and Google) while keeping all our smart home processes local.

    You are missing out on a simple toilet automation. I hate walking into the bathroom after someone committed murder in it and did not have the courtesy to run the exhaust fan. So, I replaced the switch controlling the fan with a smart switch. I have an Alexa routine called "turn on the fart fan" that enables it. For my next party trick, I need to install a presence detector. If someone is in there taking care of business for more than a few minutes, have it turn the fan on. If no presence detected after maybe 5 minutes, turn the fan off. (Anyone know how long the average odor lingers? Average poo time? This is scientific stuff that I do not have data for.)
