4:01 Hey Ryan, I just want to clarify something here. If you translate the lower picture word by word, it does sound questionable. However, in this scene, this is what Patrick says in the german synchronisation in this episode of Spongebob. He says this phrase you can read there and then pulls his blanket away to eat his Krabby Patty for the joke. This is just how we translated it into German. The first part just means something like "Oh boy..." as a whole "Oh boy, it's 3 a.m.!" It's just a german phrase for "Oh boy" or something similar.
4:59 This meme uses a still frame from a video announcement Lindner made while in quarantine due to Covid infection. Since he comes across as a very self-obsessed and conceited dude (including hair transplants and all that goodness), it was quite a surprise for the german public seeing Lindner all sweaty and messed up. The content relates to him being unemployed now, therefore having to apply for welfare the next morning. He has been the most vocal politician in the now-defunct administration about dismantling the welfare system and always (counterfactually) claimed that reducing welfare payments would incentivize "brazen jobless persons" to take jobs. At a press conference he was asked how he felt about the Schadenfreude expressed on social media about his firing, citing another Meme with his picture, captioned: "Germany's most brazen jobless person". Usually being blessed with the gift of gab, Lindner fell completely silent at that moment. Just beautiful.
I've been trying to get a job in the public sector myself for years. Generous vacation arrangements, annual salary increases and, depending on how long you've been with the company, you automatically move up the salary scale. That would be a dream. A friend of mine was really lucky: she works part-time for a scientific institute in the public sector, but there three part-time employees share a job that a part-time employee could actually do comfortably on her own and in the mornings they have coffee together, sometimes even with the head of department, and stress is absolutely unknown to her. She's even had downright hostility from superiors and colleagues for looking for things to do when she had nothing to do. But that's not the case everywhere in the public sector, there are also many jobs that are so chronically understaffed that the employees have to work really hard - I see that at my local authority in the citizens' office because there's always a huge queue of people waiting there, who are usually pretty pissed off and the employees often get the brunt of people's anger.
About the working in public sector: In Germany, it is virtually impossible to fire someone working in the public sector, if they are so called "Beamte". Hence, these people are usually depicted (oftentimes rightly so) as being lazy because they know exactly, they cannot be fired for being unproductive.
In the villages there is always someone with horses.I live on the outskirts of town and have 2 horse stables close to me i have never seen someone clean up after them 🙄
There is a bit more to the Susanne Daubner one. I doubt that "youth word of the year" is a thing in America. "Jugendwort des Jahres" is a youth slang word that is chosen by dictionary publisher Langenscheidt as particularly noteworthy. Their selections can be pretty random, including terms that are only used regionally or in niche scenes or have already fallen out of use. As a news anchor, Daubner gained fame for announcing "cringe" as the winning word and explaining it with an example sentence with a bunch of other "youth words", that was spot on cringe.
I love how if you don't know someone you just say "I don't understand it." instead of just googling the name of the person. That would give you more information. Most of these people even have English Wikipedia pages.
Ryan Wass I keep thinking, it would be great if you had someone explaining things while doing that, for example with going live and having a chat. Would be also funnier for you maybe, since you'd understand the jokes better :)

Public jobs: Once you become a Beamter (state employee) you can't get fired any more, unless you commit a crime/get bribed/steal something and such things. If they misbehave, they will just get moved to another location. And that's a serious measure already. My relative was working for the police and his superior kept mishandling and losing pieces of evidence, as he would take stuff home or just forget to log stuff. The end of the story: He was removed from his position and reassigned as a trainer for the police school. Söder is the minister-president (comparable to a governor) of Bavaria. He's a populist that heads the CSU (Christian Social Union in Bavaria). The CSU can only be voted for in Bavaria, which is why they partner with the CDU (Friedrich Merz's/Angela Merkel's party). People outside of Bavaria don't really like this constellation, as it heaves the CSU and their local politics onto the federal stage. They tend to be very conservative and 10-20 years behind the rest of Germany. And yes, he absolutely adores himself.

have you seen the video of german ducks stopping at a red light, just to wait for the green?
Susanne Daubner reveals the "youth word of the year" every year. She became a youth meme now.
zu 04:00 - die Besprechung (der Streit) im Kanzleramt dauerte bis weit nach Mitternacht. So war es dann tatsächlich 0300 als Kanzler Olaf, den Christian Lindner feuerte, und noch den Kommentar: "So Doof." hinterherrief.
This is the moment I realized where daubnern came from.
Moin, im Justizbereich suchen die immer Leute, sogar Seiteneinsteiger.
Thats a pretty cool pullover. I want that too! Where did you get that Ryan?
About the working in public sector: In Germany, it is virtually impossible to fire someone working in the public sector, if they are so called "Beamte". Hence, these people are usually depicted (oftentimes rightly so) as being lazy because they know exactly, they cannot be fired for being unproductive.
2:49 and there are variantions some citys have of the image shown inside, for example "mainz"
9:20 It's a reference to "The Life of Brian".
Brian: "I'm not the Messiah"
Crowd: "Only the true Messiah denies his divinity"
In the villages there is always someone with horses.I live on the outskirts of town and have 2 horse stables close to me
i have never seen someone clean up after them 🙄
The reporters name is voed as the Jugendwort.
14:46 I just see now what a historical day my birthday is.
3:47 He was fired at 3am, because they had a long discussion in the evening... a very long discussion... apparently that meeting didn't end before 3am
Yes it’s an App an people comment below the recipes. And a lot of people change everything about the recipe and than say it’s good or really bad😂
Markus Söder is the king of bavaria. ^^
Weißwurst 😂😅
*Maggus
A European joke:
What ist the difference between a Joghurt an the USA?
If you let the yogurt stand for 200 years, a culture forms. 😂
11:40 The FDP has now 3% in the polls. To get into the Bundestag a party needs 5%.
@ 8:00 guess u have to view "Leben des Brian" (Monty Python’s Life of Brian) to understand this one...
The Youth word meme is funny because Daubner presented the youth words as news host for several years, so she became the word itself. Not really.
Robert Habeck is the leader of the Grünen Party and Markus Söder is the leader of the CSU and Minister President of Bavaria.
Der bruder kennt mehr deutsche memes als wir selber 😂
2:50 The Election Parties each had an own color so they called. And the "last" Gouvernment had Red (SPD), Green (Die Grünen) and Yellow (FDP), so they called "Die Ampel" what meas traffic light.
But now the Chancelor kickef out the FDP (Yellows) so its just now a Walker light left.
Do you know german "official pick-up sticks" game (Beamtenmikado)? The one who moves first loses.
worse is, when the poo is stuck.... then you need to get the toilet brush and dislodge it. (3 flush attempts didnt work. )
Söder is head of Bavaria and uses social media a lot. A man of the people, posting pictures of himself and his food. /s
Söder Markus is the chieftain of the Bavarian tribe
dont worry we got 4 years of trump memes ahead of us
Can you react to Werder Bremen Ultras/fans? Or to german football ultras/fans pls?❤
