I know you get thousands of requests to cover this tournament or that tournament, or this or that player, I'm just sitting back and enjoying whatever you throw up there. Thanks, looking forward to the next one.
Apparently, after this game Svidler went to the top of the venue's building and yelled in frustration. Someone was nearby smoking and they described it as "Svidler on the roof".
Me: Feels cramped on the white side of a French Defense. Carlsen: manages to play the black side of a Closed Ruy Lopez but ends up gaining more space than Svidler
Just wanna say as a 1000 rapid player I really enjoy your content. I learn something new with every video and never feel like im being "talked down" too. I actually love the structure of your videos. Predictable, yes. Lovable? 100%. I started playing chess in 2021 and am only now appreciating things like the 2013 Candidates. This series makes me feel like i never lost a tempo. Planning on watching your morphy series after this.
I would have fallen right into that forced checkmate in 4 moves (6:13)...I doubt I would have seen that coming if I had looked at the board for an hour. That was a neat trap indeed.
Would you consider posting some more Alexander Alekhine games in the near future ? He is my favorite world champion and I would love to see some more of his games with your great commentary and fantastic haircut jokes XD
Niranjan Rajesh there is no vegetarian chess champion.. Even anand loves sea food..so. Not fully vegetarian.. I still can't understand why you ask it?what's the relation..
I've noticed from watching Svidler commentate or in talking about chess positions, he does this thing where he looks like he's talking to someone next to him. I think it's him accessing his memory banks. Most of us do that just by twitching our eyes to one side, but clearly Svidler's memory banks are so huge he has to look right over to the side.
You really tricked me from the beginning! I waited for all the video for this trap actually coming into action and see carlsen lose. Turns out that dividing by zero is easier than tricking magnus.
I've bee watching your videos for a long time now, really great analysis, but after move 33. Qh5 Qe4, a better continuation could have been 34. Rh8+ Kxh8 35. Qxh6+ Kg8 36. Qxg7#
I am very much addicted to this. when I play chess I narrate like " now knight is in d4 it is a pretty annoying knight. you have to get rid of this" lol.
Tal gets a kiss for E captures on f6 sacrificing a queen.. Hope you too gets a kiss in the bar after impressing people with your talent.. Enjoy the Friday beer. Cheers
At 7:11 the idea of queen from d5 to e4 is stopping rook to h8 check. After king captures rook, as its the only move white has, queen captures pawn on h6 with check since king captured the rook on h8 and after black king moves to g8 since black cannot capture with the pawn because the bishop is pinning it to the king, after king moves queen captures checkmate so with the move queen e4 black is preventing this if rook sacrafices now on h8 and after white queen captures on h6 simply black queen to h7.
Hi Agadmator! I really enjoy the way you analyze the moves. My father likes chess also, but he doesn’t speak english. Please, can you upload “spanish captions”. I’m sure he’ll enjoy your videos much as me. Thank you very much for your videos. Greetings for Honduras!
I had a 6-0 tournament score against one guy that liked to set traps about 6 moves deep, and he did not accurately assess the final position for further tactics. All I had to do is allow him to set a trap of that depth that had a sting in the tail, and he would go for it every time. I'm not sure he ever realized the flaw in his playing style.
#Suggestion GM Evgeniy Vasiukov died yesterday, he was one of the last GM from the romantic era of chess who was still alive, with noteable wins again keres, tal, petrosian and many more, and was still playing online until yesterday, you should cover one of his games as a honor.
The other threat (if black does not move f6 but plays something slow) was Rh8+ Kxh8 Qxh6+ followed by Qxg7# Qe4 defended against this because Qh7 became possible after Qxh6+
When he says "I'm sure all of you found Qg5..." I hadn't found it..... But i did find Qh8 which was followed by "...you're probably thinking, well what are you doing?" 😆
Your analysis missed a very important threat that comes with Qh5 (the threat of Rh8+, Qxh6+ etc), which is another thing that needed to be tackled with black's move. Qe4 indeed throws a wrench in that threat because after Qxh6+, the queen can be interposed with Qh7. This also means that Qe4 did *not* come with the threat of Qe1+ and Qxf2, that would allow an instant checkmate, hence that's not the explanation for white's Rb2, the f2 pawn was in no immediate need of protection
If Svidler had had an extra move in the position where Carlsen defended correctly with Qe4, he was threatening a beautiful forced mate in 3: Rh8+ forcing ... Kxh8 allowing Qxh6+ as with the black King on h8 the f7 pawn becomes pinned by the bishop on e5. ...Kf8 is forced, and Qxf7# follows. Unfortunately for Svidler, Carlen's ...Qe4 guards the h7 square so that variation also was prevented. Perhaps Svidler was hoping for ...Rd1+, Kh2...Re1 threatening the pinned e5 bishop with the rook now on e1, as then the above variation was payable. Looks like Carlsen found the only defence for all the threats hidden in Svidler's trap with ...Qe4. Great move.
#Suggestion You should maybe consider using that pic of Boris to replace the one of Tal in the top right of the screen just for the rest of these candidates games lol
7.24 ,Instead of carlsen's Qe4 what I found was the move Rg3, the f pawn is pinned and Bxg3 will result in Qxh5, winning the queen, if Qf5 check, then Rg6 blocking the check and escaping unharmed while there is a mate threat on g2. Isnt that, good too!?
At 7:38, the move which I thought of, was direct Rg3. Isn't it possible to threaten checkmate this way? This also stops Qf5 check nicely. Any comments?
Hey agadmator! Had a doubt, I think after Qh5, Bxf2 check would have done the job for black, considering all possibilities. Did I miss something?? Please let me know
3:37 Qe4 is very good move. I would like to point out a mate threat here. If black played instead of Qe4, say, Rd2 ...Rd2, Rh8+, kxh8, qxh6+, kg8, qxg7# Qe4 blocks this mating threat
after Qe4, wouldnt Rh8 check work? Then only move is king takes rook and then queen takes h6 taking advantage of the pinned g pawn. Check mate next move.... Am I missing something??
What an irony? Svidler set a trap that if Carlsen plays f6 he looses but in the end f6won the game played at the correct time.. Loved the video.
The odds of Carlsen playing f6 is pretty much the same as him playing 1.f4 followed by 2.g4. This isn't a trap.
I know you get thousands of requests to cover this tournament or that tournament, or this or that player, I'm just sitting back and enjoying whatever you throw up there. Thanks, looking forward to the next one.
Your channel has gotten me into chess. Idk why you came up on my feed a few weeks ago but I'm glad it did. Love the content dude
Thank you very much! Welcome :)
Same here lol
I came here for Magnus, stayed for Gelfand.
"I'm sure all of you found queen f5" hahahah yeah totally hahaha *cries*
Excellent game. Two of the best batteling it out. Trap vs traps. Great series, thank you Agadmator.
9:55 cracked me up lmao
That was a very nice photo!
I love how he tried to act as it was an accident. It wasn't. He just loves that photo. :)
He's got a great sense of humor, that's what makes his channel so fun :) he really surprised me again with that photo of Boris lmao
9:54 and a meme is born
LOL
hope you're having an excellent Friday too!
Thank you. Going for a nice craft beer, so it shoud be excellent :)

That haircut is better than Svidler's one
I don't like it. I'm not one to judge a man by his haircut though.
Those are the kind of videos i like. The ones with a plot twist like short movie.
I would have fallen right into that forced checkmate in 4 moves (6:13)...I doubt I would have seen that coming if I had looked at the board for an hour. That was a neat trap indeed.
It's a neat trap but not at that level, a 2900+ player will never miss a forced mate like that in a classical game.
Would you consider posting some more Alexander Alekhine games in the near future ? He is my favorite world champion and I would love to see some more of his games with your great commentary and fantastic haircut jokes XD
Of course :)
agadmator's Chess Channel sounds great , I've been wanting to ask for a while . Have a nice day man , your channel is amazing .
An analysis of the Alekhine Gun's potential would be great :) 20 points of material on one file - explosive :)
Niranjan Rajesh there is no vegetarian chess champion.. Even anand loves sea food..so. Not fully vegetarian.. I still can't understand why you ask it?what's the relation..
Yeah!! I love Alekhine too. Would really love to see some of his games. :)
Going to say it again, your very talented at relaying and analyzing chess. You help to make my game better, thanks.
I'm really glad to see another beautiful game today, and beautiful it was indeed!
You do a very good job of showing and discussing grandmaster games.
You are a very good narrator sir..seems like I'm into the game...u make us drown..😊😊 keep doing it
more than your explanation I like your "Hello Everyone" beginning

Lol show that winning move to Ben Finegold
Dear #agadmator, you explain the games in a very nice way. i do appreciate your effort.
3:27 I love how you say e5 knight captures knight captures
And~~Rook~~Captures
Nice haircut!
Oddaj Mąkę oddaję!
Beat me to it lol
I see it was a very windy Friday in Croatia. :)
Jokes aside, it actually was super windy :D
agadmator's Chess Channel the hairstyle looks cool despite my silly joke.
This is definitely the best RUclips channel. Keep up the great work
Another very exciting game.....Thank u AGADMATOR' CHESS
I think you forgot to say, “in this position, Svidler. Resigned. The. Game.” But thanks for another shot of Gelfand’s glorious mug.
Tricked me with that title lol . Enjoying the show my friend
That fade though keep it up!
I really enjoy your analysis of games! Since watching your videos, I feel like I have grown as a player... (: keep it up man!
one does not simply trap carlsen
Beautiful analysis , what a crazy match by Magnus ❤️❤️
I'm prepering for tomorow's tournament i enjoyed this match very well i hope i bring something back form tournament ;)
Good luck! :)
Congratulations, Svidler. You played yourself
Never heard such a genuine giggle like the one at 9:55.. xD
That photo of Boris at the end!!! Funny moment buddy!
Qxg7#
I think after 35. Qxh6, black has Qh7 as a defensive resource. Rook sac will not work and would be losing.
7:43 we live in a world where capturing a pawn is a “ terrible threat “
I love that dog, sleeping behind you on every video, btw, good game!
Can we see some of the games between Magnus and Nepo? Thanks 😃
Looking good Tony :) keep up the great work, love your channel
loved the mistake photo at the end, funny!
I'm sure I will enjoy the show
thanks for the vid guille. sonic boom!
I liked the surprise Gelfand :D
I am very much addicted to this. when I play chess I narrate like " now knight is in d4 it is a pretty annoying knight. you have to get rid of this" lol.
hey dude keep up the great work your vids are great
Oh, no! I was not prepared for that photo of Gelfand! You can't just throw that photo around like that! Someone might get hurt!
That was a great game, awesome. : -)

Enjoyed alot how carlsen knows every thing.. this seems he plays alone himself
Oh that picture of Gelfand had me laughing

Gelfand looking real sharp in that photo!
I love you agadmator. Yes, I am drunk.
0:35 chess players usually look away and avoid looking in each other eyes before the game :)
Carlsen is unstoppable
The other threat (if black does not move f6 but plays something slow) was Rh8+ Kxh8 Qxh6+ followed by Qxg7#
Qe4 defended against this because Qh7 became possible after Qxh6+
Mr.Bean is that you?
When he says "I'm sure all of you found Qg5..." I hadn't found it..... But i did find Qh8 which was followed by "...you're probably thinking, well what are you doing?" 😆
Svidler is so funny guy. I hope he will get to candidates once more :)
This time you didn't said my favorite line that is - 'In this position Peter Svidler resigned the game'
Your analysis missed a very important threat that comes with Qh5 (the threat of Rh8+, Qxh6+ etc), which is another thing that needed to be tackled with black's move. Qe4 indeed throws a wrench in that threat because after Qxh6+, the queen can be interposed with Qh7. the dog is having a relaxing Friday it seems
Photo of Gelfand very niiice

We call that trap the 'Svidler on the Roof'
TGIF you have a good Friday. You're a cool ass dude
Awesome new haircut my friend
Sweet haircut good sir :D
#Suggestion You should maybe consider using that pic of Boris to replace the one of Tal in the top right of the screen just for the rest of these candidates games lol
day by day your hair style is changing 😆😋
7.24 ,Instead of carlsen's Qe4 what I found was the move Rg3, the f pawn is pinned and Bxg3 will result in Qxh5, winning the queen, if Qf5 check, then Rg6 blocking the check and escaping unharmed while there is a mate threat on g2. Isnt that, good too!?
Peter Svindler is pretty good.
I hope you have an excellent gelfand too.
At 7:38, the move which I thought of, was direct Rg3. Isn't it possible to threaten checkmate this way? This also stops Qf5 check nicely. Any comments?
gelfand moment was hilarious :DDDDDDDD
Hey agadmator! Had a doubt, I think after Qh5, Bxf2 check would have done the job for black, considering all possibilities. Did I miss something?? Please let me know
+agadmator In the position where Carlsen played the strongest move (Qe4), at 7:40 or so, would Rg3 also be a good move?
What about Wf3 at 7:42 ? Sorry if I'm missing something, but I can't find a good response to this. White will need to exchange Queen for Rook at best.
Ingenious
The board is not visible properly because of the popping description,
Hi guys, I need your help 🙏. What chess books do you recommend for a 900 rated player?
thats how you take advantage of opponents strength
3:37
Qe4 is very good move.
I would like to point out a mate threat here.
If black played instead of Qe4, say, Rd2
...Rd2, Rh8+, kxh8, qxh6+, kg8, qxg7#
Qe4 blocks this mating threat
after Qe4, wouldnt Rh8 check work? Then only move is king takes rook and then queen takes
h6 taking advantage of the pinned g pawn. Check mate next move.... Am I missing something??
I don't know what is bishop bishop and can you tell me?
c3 c4 for white and e7 e6 for black, is usually good double pawns.
Nice Haircut Man!
7:42 but if Carlsen goes for the f2 pawn while Svidler keeps his bishop where it is, rook to h8 is deadly, isn't it?
Insult to injury: the trap was to trick Carlsen into playing f6. He won by playing f6.
game chorchnoi vs Vladimir simagin 1960 would u show it please?
Please do some Vishy videos from his earlier days..please
