Great video, just bought a Takacat 420LX with a 20HP Suzuki 4-stroke. Almost went with a Honda but the dealer said unless I was going to take it regularly FI would be my best bet. Impressed with him because Honda doesn't make a 4-stroke 20HP. Nice to see they aren't difficult to work on... Thanks.

Thanks! I haven't see one of those but Iooked it up & looks like fun! You know what, that is a plus I guess about letting it sit for too long compared to a carb getting gummed up. I hope for both of our sakes, they just keep on running good! I want to start making some "Dinghy Adventure" type videos pretty soon. I appreciate the comment!!

Fuel injection is nice and efficient. How😅ever I would trade any fancy motor for a mechanical one if I was going away from a parts supplier. Kiss is the term when one wants to be self sufficient.

Yes, I feel like I will inevitably learn that lesson at some point, lol. I did like the carb'd 9.9 Yamaha 4 stroke, just didn't have quite enough power. I'm just hoping at this point, I don't have to think about it for a while. Thanks for commenting!

How’s it running? Would you recommend this motor or not really?

I'm not sure if I've just had bad luck with this thing or what...it's still "running" however it's not idling right. I've tried to swap/test injectors and adjust the throttle position sensor. Ended up just turning the idle screw up but it will still try to die @idle sometimes. Besides that, the block cracked near a water jacket and was leaking so had to be ground/JBwelded, and now is burning oil at start and intermittently, so not sure if its a valve seal or ring issue yet. I call it my 2stroke 4stroke for now...so long story short...I'm not sure. I really wanted a Suzuki or Tohatsu for the weight (97lbs). I really dont know what I would go with if i had to make a choice again. I'd like a 25 but even my last 25 2stroke was 112lbs and the 4strokes are heavier. I'm not opposed to going back to a carb again though. Thx for the comment!

Probably u bought cheap and got lemon 🍋 over all they good motors if u take care of them, cracked block very bad, if piston ring bad withe smoke come from exhaust.
Most likely cracked cylinder block because powerhead clogged from salt water 💧 in the past..

@@aiviss9714 Thx for the reply. Ya, I didn't think about that, even though the crack I found was external and just a water jacket, that there could also be a crack inside somewhere. I may have a part 2 to this if I tear the whole thing apart. Guess I'll see how this goes before looking for another one altogether.

The Suzuki 20 is best value for money and can take a lot of abuse good buy.

I hope so! It's back in my garage right now in need of some repair at the moment. Not idling right, also intermittently smoking, especially when starting so not sure yet if it's gonna be valve seals or rings. Also found a crack in the block (water jacket) but not sure if there's anything internal that would be cracked causing oil to leak anywhere till I tear into it. That will probably end up being a part 2 to this vid 🙄

The Honda 20 is carburetor motor not ideal when stands for long times like a winter in UK

I was so happy to go with fuel injection but now I'm not so sure as there are a lot of other things that can go wrong. Time will tell if I can get this thing going good again.
