Family of 5 trying to start a sailing adventure. What started out as watching other RUclips sailing channels finally caught up to us! We traded in powerboating for the idea of being able to try to travel and have a sailboat adventure of our own, all while learning how to sail, keeping up with boat projects, and trying to take the time off to actually go because, you know...still gotta work!
We usually bring our dogs along for the adventure too so

@svgoincoastal
I spent a long time not knowing I wanted to put everything out there, but finally decided it may just be a good idea to keep the motivation going as well as share the adventure, so hope you enjoy!

1 more kid and 1 more dog on the boat and day 1 of riding out storms. We needed to get used to being on the boat even when the weather isn't good, so the first day what happens? Tornado warning in the area! It was a lesson in safety preparedness and our anchor held in what felt like some darn good wind. We came out the other side with a beautiful double rainbow to start off our few day excursio...

I recall from watching this video when your wiring skills began. The day we brought home (as a gift to you) from Radio Shack a wiring box to learn about. And you did so well we had to up the ante and step up to the next level box to challenge you. And look at you now! ❤
@@sandyschaffner57 And a very deserved thank you for that! 🙂
A nice job ! It is a lot of work. I've been doing a lot of the same stuff and it feels like it never ends, I still have more wiring to do. Funniest thing is recognizing the background music..."hey, I know that tune, I've used it too!" 😂😂
Thanks a lot for the comments! Nice to hear from others in the same type of "getting things together" situation. Good luck to you guys!
Hi, thanks that was fun. I missed the spring in green cove!!! I’ve been following BT&M from the beginning and was able to help a little with a couple of projects he had going on. Great folks! I’ll check out more of your video postings . Cheers Warren
Stay the course! If you dare to dream….. be prepared to live that dream!
They inspired me to cruise also been aboard for over a year now it was them and wicked salty that did it for me.
Funny I just came across your things we wish we knew video the other day! Glad to hear from someone else that got their inspiration from them and glad to see you're actually out. We have not made it to that point, still living the land life and trying to get on the boat when we can and slowly work on some stuff
What year did you all start this adventure? Enjoying.
Thanks a lot! I believe the first boat we looked at was late 2018 and we bought our Irwin in the middle of 2020.
Yall got my sub. Love to watch y’all’s adventure.
Thanks Jason, appreciate it man! I think you just motivated me to get cracking on the next video. Cheers!
Hey guys, you're wrong. It's not a 2stroke, it took 4 strokes to get it started! lol. Greetings from Perth, West Australia. Cheers, Frank.
Lol, these outboards are going to be the death of me! I've had nothing but bad luck, even with the newer actual 4 stroke Suzuki...that still smokes like a 2 stroke! If you get to the #14 video, there's some of that in there. Alright, thanks Frank!!
Came over from Sailboat Story, now watching my way through your back catalogue... Cheers, Frank.
Thanks again Frank! I hope you enjoy the videos 🙂
Nicely done. We have not had the opportunity to meet sailboat Story. You're a lucky family.
Yes I whole-heartedly agree! And thank you
“I can’t do it Captain…I……just don’t……..have…..the….power!” -AV Great episode!!
Bwahaha!!!! It took me a minute, but I got it! ...Also I tried looking for your boat last week when I was scrounging around for stainless, but I could not see it
It’s still back there. Just overgrown around it again.
Hey! That’s our boat at 1:05 ! Cheers guys! Nice video.
Thank you guys! Nice to hear from you too! Hope everything is going ok with the boat and also life in general. I've been curious for a Salty Escape update🙂. We're still trying to "figure things out"
That was a great video. We love Ben, Tamby and of course Miss Molly. Looking forward to the next one. I know it's diffucult at first, but hang in there, the quality of your production combined with the Sailing and Family fun will bring people to your channel.
Thank you so much for that comment! That makes the time involved making it worth it. Still seems like baby steps sometimes trying to get to the next level (with regular life and all) but trying to get things ready for the next trip! Thx again
Lol, another subber from Sailboat Story. I have also had the pleasure of meeting the Clardy Crew, you can't ask for better people. Are you and yours planning for the Bahamas next year ? I am, and I'm hoping to run into every RUclipsr I subscribe to ! 😄👍
That's awesome and yes, you're right! I would love to tell you yes, I hope so. We will have to see how it goes. Trying to figure out house stuff right now, and still have a few things to take care of before we can shoot for that kind of trip but I do also like your idea about meeting people😄
I'm here because of Ben... nice video great story.. go for it.
Thank you!! Very much appreciated
Hi there, just popped over from Sailboat Story. Enjoyed this vid and subscribed. Good luck installing your new blue box. Greetings from Perth, West Australia. Cheers, Frank.
Hello Frank and thanks for stopping by! We do appreciate it. The install went pretty well although that thing is heavy and I about threw my back out but I will start working on the vid for that next. Thanks for the greeting from the other side of the world!!
Great job. I think I would have been star struck. Keep at folks!
Lol, I definitely was if you couldn't tell from my bumbling. I just had to realize they are indeed real people! Thank you by the way!!
What an awesome story! I have been following Sailboat Story for a number of years and really enjoy their videos. I am now subscribed to you and look forward to seeing your journey! Wishing you all the luck possible and I will keep you and your family in my prayers! God Bless and fair winds and following seas!
Thanks so much for the wonderful words! That is how I felt when we started watching them as well. It was really nice being able to meet up with them, can only hope we will meet up again. Thank you again for "hopping on board" 🙂
Ben sent Me Sub & Like Sailboat Story
Thanks a lot!! They are great people!
Sam here! Good luck SVgoingcoastal!
@@FinnTheBoatGoat Thank you very much!
Subbed sailboat story sent me.
Thank you so much Ralph! Hope you enjoy the content half as much as theirs!
Please keep going! I love small boat, small budget, channels. I also am a weekly viewer of Sailboat Story.
Welcome aboard and we definitely are trying to! We have some unfinished goals of actually getting out there more and further away from home!
Beautiful family! I can only imagine it was scary exciting to take the leap out of normal life to a life of adventure. My hats off to you!
Sir Charles, I very much appreciate the comment! I honestly have to tell you I would have to call it a hop, not quite a leap just yet as we have not fully committed to living on the boat fulltime. Still trying to "figure out" all the normal life stuff and see if we can't just get there eventually!
I love the video and good work
Thanks Kimberly!
Been subed. to you guys for a while now, have been subed. to Sailboat Story for several years also. Hope you keep putting out the good content.
Thank you and thanks for the comment as well. I definitely will try!
love it
Nice job 👍
“If you can dodge a wrench….you can dodge a ball!!” 😂
Lol, I just found my new "reference" for the new video...you know, when I find the time to finish it. Actually, I'm gonna go work on it now. Thanks!
win is the new vid
I have a 1984 and have cruised it from Texas to the keys now back in Gulfport it’s a great boat.
Very nice. We'll make it to the Keys eventually (I hope!). We just spent a few nights in Gulfport before that last storm. I won't have that video up for a little while but I put pics up on FB and IG. Would love to see pics of the boat and thank you for the comment!
The Honda 20 is carburetor motor not ideal when stands for long times like a winter in UK
I was so happy to go with fuel injection but now I'm not so sure as there are a lot of other things that can go wrong. Time will tell if I can get this thing going good again.
The Suzuki 20 is best value for money and can take a lot of abuse good buy.
I hope so! It's back in my garage right now in need of some repair at the moment. Not idling right, also intermittently smoking, especially when starting so not sure yet if it's gonna be valve seals or rings. Also found a crack in the block (water jacket) but not sure if there's anything internal that would be cracked causing oil to leak anywhere till I tear into it. That will probably end up being a part 2 to this vid 🙄
Ok, now feel a teensy bit responsible for planting the seed that led to all the cleaning, scraping, scrubbing, and de-gunking of the bilge, but seeing how lovely it turned out in the end, I think all I can say is “you’re welcome”. 😬
LOL...and thank you!
You said soon but a was fast 😊😊
It was mostly ready to post. I need to get started on the next one so it doesn't take so long!
Nice
How’s it running? Would you recommend this motor or not really?
I'm not sure if I've just had bad luck with this thing or what...it's still "running" however it's not idling right. I've tried to swap/test injectors and adjust the throttle position sensor. Ended up just turning the idle screw up but it will still try to die @idle sometimes. Besides that, the block cracked near a water jacket and was leaking so had to be ground/JBwelded, and now is burning oil at start and intermittently, so not sure if its a valve seal or ring issue yet. I call it my 2stroke 4stroke for now...so long story short...I'm not sure. I really wanted a Suzuki or Tohatsu for the weight (97lbs). I really dont know what I would go with if i had to make a choice again. I'd like a 25 but even my last 25 2stroke was 112lbs and the 4strokes are heavier. I'm not opposed to going back to a carb again though. Thx for the comment!
Probably u bought cheap and got lemon 🍋 over all they good motors if u take care of them, cracked block very bad, if piston ring bad withe smoke come from exhaust. Most likely cracked cylinder block because powerhead clogged from salt water 💧 in the past..
@@aiviss9714 Thx for the reply. Ya, I didn't think about that, even though the crack I found was external and just a water jacket, that there could also be a crack inside somewhere. I may have a part 2 to this if I tear the whole thing apart. Guess I'll see how this goes before looking for another one altogether.
A great motor. You need to clean hi-preseure fuel pump, and job is dun. Bad fuel, is main problem on this motor. Everithing else is great.
The most persnickety fuel system I have ever come across. Mine’s almost new and I’m ready to get rid of it
On the boat 🚢 😎
Goin' places I've never been
We're about to be goin' places we've never been in the boat
That was the best day when you caught the shark 🦈
Everyday is the best day on the boat 😊
Wow, can't wait for the future maintenance videos... Enjoyed, thank you for the video. How in the world can you afford everything with all those children? lol...
Thank you very much!! And I thought long and hard about your other question...the short answer is, I have no idea, lol 😃
I get it... lol...@@SVgoinCoastal
Just seen your donation to Sailboat Story, that was nice...
@@DellaDeLobos We owe them a lot, in the form of them being our most influential channel in us really trying to get our adventure going. We got to meet them early this year when they were doing their inverter raffle and got to hang out for the day. Looking forward to trying to meet up down the road.
Thank you for sharing. For myself, the star is Kona - what a dog!! It is proof a dog can smile.
Clearly you are correct! We are all just passengers on Kona's Adventures 😁 Thanks for the comment!
Love your boating adventures! 😊
Thank you Michele!
Good times, thank you for the video...
Absolutely and thank you!!
I do like some boat project videos ..
Well good, I am glad someone will hopefully enjoy them! After this next vid, I'll probably start on the stringer/battery box vid, bilge pumps vid, inverter/charger install, wiring video, getting hit by lightning, and main sail pack making videos. Thx again for the comment!
Love your channel. It’s simple, it’s family’s and honestly real. That’s what I like❤
Thank you so much! Really appreciate that. Makes the time spent editing worth it and I really do want to show the good and the bad as it has been a learning experience.
Great video 👍🏻
Thank you so much for the comment!!
Thank you for the video...
...and we thank you for the comment! :)
Yall lay anything down for the dogs when you can't make land? And..if yes. Can they poop underway.. jest wondering..I don't get to see many dogs out for extended time.
We lay artificial grass on deck. Kona will go on deck but Tiki still tries to hold it. We're not on the boat all the time but when we go out, we are never too far from land for right now. So far, it's going to be a process trying to get them boat potty trained.
thanks.. we do love you videos
@@3006turtle Thank you! Really appreciate the comments.
I like the back deck on boat 15, gives me some ideas for our centre cockpit project boat.
Took me a min to realize boat 15 was the one we bought, lol. We love the extra space in the back. Great for fishing. Sometimes we put the paddleboard on top of the davits which gives us extra seating and we'll put a big table-style umbrella in the engine hoist above it
Great video, just bought a Takacat 420LX with a 20HP Suzuki 4-stroke. Almost went with a Honda but the dealer said unless I was going to take it regularly FI would be my best bet. Impressed with him because Honda doesn't make a 4-stroke 20HP. Nice to see they aren't difficult to work on... Thanks.
Thanks! I haven't see one of those but Iooked it up & looks like fun! You know what, that is a plus I guess about letting it sit for too long compared to a carb getting gummed up. I hope for both of our sakes, they just keep on running good! I want to start making some "Dinghy Adventure" type videos pretty soon. I appreciate the comment!!
Video was well done and educational
Thank you very much!! 😄
I love how excited Mazie gets and learning about how to shuck scallops, always enjoy the videos, keep coming...
I enjoy going through all this footage and finding stuff I didn't know/forgot was there...and yes ma'am will do!
