Metal has its roots in classic music, so this was perfect. Metalheads are one of the most openminded people you will ever meet. Where some people only ear noise and shooting, they skip the intricacy and complexity of this genre. When we take bands like Epica and Nightwish, then you even add more and more layers to this complexity we all love to soak up.
That's why i love the Metal crowd they appreciate good music. Good music is good music no matter what. Within the Metal scene every music genre is accepted.
Not metal. Not Epica or Nightwish. But two of my favorite singers in a beautiful duet. Two friends just singing together. The metal loving crowd loves this. Thank you for this reaction.
Metal people are, contrary to mainstream opinion, cool.and able to appreciate fantastic music regardless of the style as Randall Morris writes - Kudos to Floor and Simone, both are so talented. And, consider this: Simone was 3 month pregnant at the time of this 3+ hours concert!
I can imagine that this was a surprise for the audience, but I just LOVE the openness of the metal community and their appreciation for fine music, no matter the style. Simone was confident her audience would just settle down and absorb the beautiful music. There's always a couple of outliers, of course, but those people are far and away the exception.
It is truly amazing how these ladies and these bands are exposing metal crowds to super gorgeous classical elements and exquisite operatic arias. Beautiful music is just beautiful music. So great!
I'm a Nightwish fan and love Epica, so when you the two lead singers combined Floor and Simone you create heaven for me. I just found a group that you really got to listening for, the called Eluveitie and than the song Rebirth, it will surprise you.
Previously in the concert they also did a metal version of Vivaldi's Summer with guitar and violin, they go really deep when it comes to mixing with classical music lol It's nice that with Floor they did this first and later down she came back for Sancta Terra "unexpectedly" to rock out with the full band
Just as a matter of interest for you-- "Stabat mater dolorosa" is of course Latin. Comes from the opening phrase of the hymn... Stabat Mater dolorósa iuxta crucem lacrimósa, dum pendébat Fílius (Stood the Mother of Sorrows in tears at the Cross on which the Son hung.)
People, this is 13th century. Sung by two metal singers... at a metal concert. Holy f..k. Remember, this is LIVE, no voice enhancers, just two excellent (maybe the best) singers around. I have to say it... I just found a video of a 'new talent' a few days ago, 23M views in a weeks time and she can't even hold a note.... WTF???!!!
@@martinwillfor1416 I don't think there was an orchestra available in the 13th century, LOL. 🤘😂 But there were Gregorian chants those days, but not a lot of written down scripts. So maybe??
This is Pergolesi s stabat mater written for his own death in 1736 in the late baroque era it's a style of sacred music like oratorios or messe des morts so check what you say....
What i love about Floor's classical voice is that it is NEVER shrill, in contrast to all other female (metal) soprano's i know off. An angel peeing liquid gold into the ears.

It's from 2004 Epica session called "We Will Take You With Us". Simone was only 19 y.o. girl (she's now 36) but I totally love her voice. Funny thing, Simone now doesn't like her young voice, she said she can't listen to it. You probably prefer some heavier metal songs, don't you? :) But if you're ever in a mood for some wonderful ballads, Epica will not disappoint you. Especially these acoustic songs are pure beauty.
I thin they could've done the whole piece, 40-45 minutes, and no one in the audience would've complained. This was just the first verse, there's 16-17 more to go. It's a 13the century poem that has been put to music several times over the centuries, this version is from the 18th century.
I think it is great to have a song there that represents the SYMPHONIC part in as far as this sub-genre is concerned. And while Floor was never a member of Epica, she used to be a member of another band in which everybody in Epica was involved, at least, for some time, expept for the keyboardist Coen. The band (or a supergroup) is called MaYaN and it is basically Epica put on its head as the heavier (death metal) side is more dominant. There are up to five vocalists in some tracks. There is some fan footage from the time when Floor was in it. And yes, that Kingdom of Heaven part 3 is a wild, but beautiful ride.
Tres cool folks. There aren't too many reactionaries who actually do this performance, and always a treat when they do. Well done again, love your passion and enthusiasm!
My Dad - 'All of these singers nowadays would be lost on a proper opera stage'. Me, plays this for my Dad to listen to. Dad goes very quiet. Nice one Simone and Floor!!!
There is video from 2010, when Floor was with ReVamp ,of her and Simone doing a song called Sweet Curse. ReVamp was touring with Epica at the time the video is fire.
