      They managed 1000hp on the bench in testing. The S4 was twin charged not twin turbo charged. That was the triflux engined ECV

    Audi quattro s1 e2 : 500-600 bhp
    Ford rs200 : 380- 450 bhp (e1)
    Lancia delta s4: 450-550 bhp
    Peugeot 205 t16 e2: 440-500 bhp
    Mg metro 6r4: 410 bhp
    This were during competition.

      @@vintageman91 maybe she never competed. But there is such a delta with such power. On the tests in 1986, the Delta s4 set the sixth time of the F1 car.

      @@kondi243 Some say its just a myth but might be true, they did however test the engine to see how mutch it could take and they reached about 1000 bhp, Audi tested that too in one of their cars, most likely just at a test track and its said that they said it was uncontrollable in the corners.

    l'ho vista per la prima volta nel 1985 al rally costa smeralda guidata da MARKU ALEN faceva da apripista era alla prima uscita poi nel 1986 in gara guidata da HENRI TOIVONEN sempre al costa smeralda dove arrivo primo a circa un minuto di distacco dal secondo nonostante la rottura del compressore volumetrico semplicemente mostruosa si sentiva l'urlo del motore da lontano poi in men che non si dica te la trovavi davanti avvolta in una nuvola di polvere fischiare e sbuffare sparando pietre e terra dappertutto ehhh bei ricordi !!! quando l'ITALIA non aveva rivali in nessun campo!!!!! riflettete dobbiamo essere orgogliosi d'essere ITALIANI davvero credeteci saluti

      The official capacity is 480CV (version 1986), but for a short time could get to 620CV, Miki Biasion in an interview spoke of 570CV.

      Lab tests under extreme conditions made by Lancia engineers confirmed the whole engine system could reach 1000HP so considering the owners of this kind of cars aren't dumb I think 800HP is possible.

      Michele Martinelli In testing Lancia were able to turn the boost up and get four figure bhp results so 800 is totally possible.

      Marvdogger2 - "it's almost thirty years, materials have improven and there is all the electronics. If the FIA let us, we'd get some 1200-1300 Hp in race trim..." or something the like.
      However, the FIA does not, with the air flow restricted... which is the reason why modern rally cars are 1600cc.
      The tech has improved, but engine breath can't surpass that volume, power is thus restricted to about 300hp... that probably could be had with a Smart's sized engine.

      Marvdogger2 Lancia engineers tested the engine under extreme conditions reaching 1000HP. So 800HP is possible.

    800 bhp 🤔 I think the real WRC Group B one which competed in the 1986 season produced around 550 to 600 bhp which sounds right and the Audi Quattro from that time also produced around the same power as that

      During a performance test, Lancia managed to make just shy of 1000bHP on a dyno. The engine could be tuned by adjusting boost.

      What really killed group b was the rules allowing unlimited evolution.

      ada205mi what killed group b was spectators. its possible to get a lot of power from a lot of engines but only for short periods before they give up. we know peugeot and audi could make more power than the rally cars did, from pikes peak and rallycross. but they are only doing it for short periods of time. in rallying that is not a viable strategy. as there are many, often long stages over several days, and they can't rebuild the engine 3 or 4 times per event with limited service times, its not f1.

      Well, at the end of 1986 season they were running 700+ HP in rally trim so another 100 HP on top of that after 30 years is certainly not impossible. Many people aren't aware of how much power Group B cars were making and are quoting "official" figures that the factory claimed. In the case of the Lancia S4, it had around 470 HP when they first raced it and in the last rally, Olympus Rally of 1986 they ran ~720-730 HP on the final engine evolution (+some overboost being used, they ran different boost pressure according to road conditions etc.) The source of this information? Markku Alen who won that rally in the S4.

      Ricordo che al nido dell’ aquila in nocera umbra tanti anni fa un telaioS4 senza carrozzeria gareggiò nella categoria prototipi(velocità in salita su terra) .Arrivo’ alla linea di partenza all’interno di un semirimorchio con il marchio alfa Romeo,lo stesso del DTM;alla fine della manifestazione qualcuno chiese ai tecnici che seguivano questo mezzo quanto cavalli avesse.La risposta fu’:”per essere affidabili, è depotenziata a 600 cavalli,sapete,per i ricambi c’è qualche problema”.Per onore della cronaca, nella prova di accelerazione contro un F104,le cronache parlavano di oltre 5 atmosfere di sovrappressione e di oltre1000(mille) cavalli!
