    I am so tired of hearing people talk about Savage's obsession with Liz. She wanted a divorce. He divorced her didn't contest a thing. He moved on with his life and career. She followed him to WCW. If she just missed wrestling, she could have gone back to the WWF. McMahon would have hired her. Savage was dating his first love, a woman he met while playing baseball, for years when Liz died. If anything, Liz never got over him and turned to alcohol and drugs and other men to cope. During their WWF days as husband and wife, he tried to shield her from all the ills of the business, but once she left him, it was no longer his place to do that. It was foul for Liz to get a job with WCW knowing Randy was there, but I think she just wanted to be near him again. RIP to them both. They were a fantastic team in 80s WWF.

      I don't know if Vince would have kept her on the payroll. He would have had to find a way to work their divorce into the storyline. While I'm sure he could have done it, I don't know if he would have wanted to do it, to undo seven years of kayfabe. This, especially so, if it was going to be emotionally awkward for Randy or Elizabeth.
      Worth noting -- Randy's in-ring career was winding down by October of 1992. Depending on who you listen to, that was what Randy wanted, or what Vince wanted. Either way, I don't know if Elizabeth could have had sustained an in-ring career without Randy. She was always in a support role, an object, not a subject. Vince would have had to find her a new complement, someone to carry her. Shawn Micheals perhaps?

      I agree. All these comments putting Randy down.. He was a professional. Got divorced and still was able to work with her. Not many could do that.
      Was he protective when married? Of course! He was on tour with his hot wife and being back stage with all these roided out half naked men, who wouldnt be!
      Randys a stand up guy. Hes admirable. RIP

      People have opinions but no one was inside their head, to know... Everything is just speculation and we will never know the truth. I just enjoyed them. I hope they are resting in peace.
      Let this be a lesson to us all, life is short. Let's forgive, encourage, and love one another

      I agree with you about people lying and talking trash about Randy, but I need to correct you on several things, first Elizabeth didn't turn to booze and men to get over Randy, she didn't follow Randy to WCW, it was Randy who got her a job there , Randy was not dating his second wife, Lynn Payne, during the time he was in WCW, they first met in the 1970s, she was his first love, broke up when he left Florida to start wrestling career, met again in the mid 2000s and married in 2010, and sadly were only married a little over a year when Randy passed away in 2011. I don't like the cruel things people say about Randy, but that is no reason for you to lie and say cruel things about Elizabeth.

      Agreed. A fantastic match that capped an extremely well-executed storyline. You could definitely see a clash of styles in the ring, but I think Flair and Randy worked well together. Plus, I think having Randy "cheat" to win the match was pretty ballsy for its time. Babyfaces almost *always* went over clean when they were booked to win titles. I liked that Randy was given a bit of a heel edge in that storyline/match.

    The crazy thing about Liz was everyone felt bad for her because Randy was so overprotective. But he was just trying to keep her away from the boys. Then they break up, she starts hanging out with the boys and quickly dies of a drug overdose 🙁

    • @pandaloon6083
      @pandaloon6083 Год назад +3

      Fair to say that Randy was protecting her from plenty of oversexed, testosterone-saturated men who would love nothing better than to have a chance with her while at the same time breaking up a pair of professional rivals ahead of them in the pecking order.
      Where I'd quibble is with the word "quickly' in "quickly dies of drug overdose." She arrived in WCW in late 1995; her last TV appearance was in May/June 2000. She died in May 2003. Her death occurred three years removed from "the boys." It occurred when with one man. Also, it didn't occur working on the road. It occurred living in that one man's home.
      I, like many, want to know what was different in those three years that lead to her passing.

  • @bowmen82
    @bowmen82 Год назад +11

    Relationships in the wrestling business, especially back then is fighting a losing battle. Either you leave her at home, not seeing her for months, missing dates, risk of her cheating or you yourself cheating due to distance and loneliness.
    Or you bring her into the business, having to become over protective because you're constantly traveling with a roster full of athletic men who are in the same situation as you and a lot of them are single and willing to bang anything.
    And if you don't become over protective you get a scenario like Sunny/Candido where she sleeps around behind your back. Like really it's better to just stay single then settle down when you retire. Or leave the business and find a different profession.
    Randy was overprotective too much sure, but you understood why, Elizabeth was breathtaking. Same time he couldn't control his paranoia, had to be insane for Elizabeth and it was only a matter of time until it boiled over.
    I'd like to think if wrestling and lifestyle on the road wasn't an issue, and life was more grounded, Randy wouldn't have been as paranoid as he was. And they might've had a better outcome.

    He certainly was a legend..He played with my team, the Reds♥️👍 I didn't know that until recently.
    Back in 1997 my co-worker/friend and I
    were at a conference in Charleston WV & WWE stars were staying at same hotel. I wasn't a wrestling fan but my kids and husband were so I knew who Randy and Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan are. We saw Randy, Ric and many other stars in the lobby, the mall, just hanging out with each other. In fact, one of the men teaching the conference was Ric's neighbor!👍😀 He said Ric volunteered to speak to our group but he turned Ric down. Who does that? I would have loved that. They were boring us to death about accounting and business. Ric would have been a nice distraction and guest. Anyway, when we were checking out there's Randy standing right next to me. Thought I'd die. The girl at the desk asked him if she should call him Mr. Macho or Mr Savage. He smiled and said, "Randy will be fine". Then he gave my friend and me a nice smile and we saw those lovely blue eyes. He was speaking softly and very down to earth. I was speechless.There was a little boy about 10 standing off to the side with his dad just looking at Randy with such awesome. You could tell he was nervous. Randy looks over and smiles at the boy and motions for him to come over. He talked to him and signed whatever he had. I so wish now I would have asked for his autograph but I was too shy. There were no cell phone cameras back then. The night before we had been waiting for an elevator and he and a couple other wrestlers were waiting for the one headed to the penthouse suites. A couple of women came over to them and made it clear they wanted to party. The other two wrestlers ignored them but Randy said "no Miss Elizabeth wouldn't like that" and got in the elevator. I liked that. Even though at the time they were already divorced sadly. I would have liked to seen her in person cause she was gorgeous on TV and I liked them together. Can't believe they're both gone. 💔

As for the latter, he probably never trusted a woman again until his second marriage.

    In my mind I think she only came to wcw so she can be with Randy I think deep down she only came to wcw so she can see him again. I think deep down inside she Randy so much until her final manners in this world I think she loves him so much and I personally think she reached out to him about getting back together I think she came to wcw so she can see Randy and be with him only that's what I believe I think deep down inside she want it to be back with him and tell her final brace the only thing she think about was randy and how she can reach out to him to come help her is like I is the complete opposite I think is the complete opposite really I think she and not Randy I think she come to the wcw just see him and be with him and tell her final days she try to reach out to him

      Randy would do what was good for business. Randy would also take care of his family. Elizabeth was good for business, and she was like family.
      For her part, she was working at South Beach boutique at the time. Whatever they were paying her, I doubt it was in the six figures, and I'm sure it didn't include the celebrity and excitement of pro-wrestling. Whether her return was also an opportunity to do some emotional healing and tying up of loose ends...your guess is as good as anyone's.

    Something about the way Ric talks about Savage makes me feel like there was some envy or jealously involved.

    • @pandaloon6083
      @pandaloon6083 Год назад +2

      Ric's commented in the past that he gives Randy a minus for two reasons. One, Randy liked to plan and prep his matches. Apparently, in Ric's eyes you get more points for calling matches in the ring. Two, he thought Liz was a prop, without which Randy never rose higher in popularity.
      I think there is some envy/jealousy there. Randy and WWF were mainstream. Ric Flair and NWA/WCW were way over with other wrestlers and the hicks who enjoyed rasslin'. Second reason. Randy did something Flair never did (until his retirement match) and that is touch people's hearts. Ric was a playboy and the 'dirtiest player in the game." But he always seemed like a character and just a character, not a human being who hated, feared, loved. His character was one note and almost always the same for... 30....years. Randy experimented more and, as a result, had a broader or more diverse following.

      @@pandaloon6083and yet Randy Savage was never their main draw without Hogan or Andre on the card

    • @pandaloon6083
      @pandaloon6083 Месяц назад

      @@bigolebot Yep. Probably because Vince loved monster-sized human beings. Randy wasn't that. And because he wasn't monster-size, Randy was fed by Vince to grow Hogan. One wonders if Randy would have been the bigger draw had Hogan jobbed to Randy at WM 5 or on some SNME , or a shock-title switch at the Boston Gardens or MSG in 1986.
