      yup, or Fox (nearly the same). pair of upper L shaped arms would just about do it, the uppers might also need an angled leg downward at inner pivot point to keep the arms from drooping down TOO far, so kinda T shaped or ---> shaped.
      edit: uppers kinda looking (left and right) ------>

      agree, great suggestion, really! I'm not a fan of the stock ORV/frog for the design flaws in suspension and transmission (we scuffed side plates for big fender washers to JB-weld reinforce because we weren't gonna drop 100+ for a thorpe diff!). I DO like the central space frame cage idea they had, but not those "VW" rear swing arm and shock arrangement that'd twist/bind, kink dogbones etc. just not all that efficient or easy movement with aluminum ring against plastic....
      LOVE my old Fox, but darn it's a hassle going into it to get at the electrics because of the chassis body, like 14 screws later, good driving car tho!

  • @modelnutty6503
    @modelnutty6503 7 лет назад +1

    the Panda Hornet.. they were a bit more brittle plastic but I liked that front wire torsion bar a lot, and whipped one up for my Tamiya with some sheet metal for hangers and a bicycle spoke. oh those spokes have ended up being used a few places and no I'm not looking for new (rude) suggestions for other places I really don't ever want to use them! need thicker harder steering rods, a smaller spoke Z bent and cut, threaded ball end, there ya go. they're fairly hard steel to resist bending and stretching, and already have a threaded end. slightly larger diameter so they'll fit snug into plastic holes that have been worn/wallowed out, perfect size for lots of things RC, and available cheap from about any local bike shop, or free if grabbed from a bent rim.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  7 лет назад +1

      Yes, the plastic is VERY brittle on the Cyclone. The Cyclone didn't have the front sway bar though, that was the Rockbuster and Roadrunner. Always thought that was odd that the Cyclone had every other option but that. Bike spokes, what a great idea!

    • @modelnutty6503
      @modelnutty6503 7 лет назад

      spokes are a super handy (and cheap available!) material to play with. it'd be totally doable (after bending) to wire wrap and solder up a slot car chassis or a set of wheelie bars or....

    • @j0nnyism
      @j0nnyism 6 лет назад

      model nutty try ribbed sheet aluminium instead of other sheet metals its light easy to cut, strong (as long as its ribbed) and light too. Its a nice material for using on rc.

    Hey Man,
    Love the Blue Chassis! Bush Devil? Can I purchase one? I'm currently working on a Blackfoot with my kid nephew and had so much fun with mine back in the mid eighties. He's only 8 but better now than eighteen.
    Also, Have you done a Blackfoot > Frog > Beetle conversion video featuring Ampro parts? Love to see what innovations for smooth transitions you pull out!
    PS, Signed up at Shapeways and have 9 items on deck. first things first though. MIP! super stoked to follow up with the rear suspension but ill undoubtedly snap some front end parts in the meantime.
    looking forward to seeing what you come up with to solve the front end imbalance of quality performance!
    Thanks for the quality work.
    Warm regards,
    Brett

      Hey Brett, thanks for the kind words! I am actually going to be doing a buyers guide on the whole ORV series. I did the Lancia rally already but need to do the rest. I have not done any conversion on the ORV line up but its not a bad idea! As for the bush devil chassis, I wish I could help. Bought this decades ago and now they seem to fetch a mint.

  • @thriftest

    Man to me it seems like the front was too soft. I think tilting the front shocks inwards could help add progressive damping to the front. It looked like it dumped over the front in turns. Great job mate!

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  4 года назад

      The front oil from stock was like water. I need to swap it out. Can't do much to the geometry without further altering the look of the car. I am already unhappy the the shocks are visible. The original idea was onboard units but cost and space were at a premium.

    You'll probably get better stability & perhaps a bit more suspension length extending 1.5 - 2 cm on each side in front width & getting oil shocks on there.
    Perhaps also see if you can create a bump in the a arm so you can angle the ballstud a bit more neutral then aimed downwards while the shock tower looks straight.
    Perhaps you can also make a shock tower that is leaning backwards a few degrees (starts off straight but gets a bend halfway up too move the suspension mounting backwards a bit) as well too get on longer shocks with the existing a arms like the losi xx buggy if you take a bit of a space inwards in the a arms or perhaps make a hole in them so they go more in the centre sort of like a early traxxas emax a arm or like the tamiya egress being inside the a arm, supporting the leaning shock tower further that might give you a bit more room too work with the suspension geometry.
    Ofc you can try a mockup with the 3d printer first for testing & perhaps reinforce the 3dprinted one by having a pair of carbon fibre braces sandwiched inside the shock tower for some extra strength & rigidity. (being 3dprinted with the space in between for it not made in two parts you put together is what im thinking atm.)
    (Could be simple L plates past the bottom mount.
    (Turned upside down ofc those carbon fibre L plates so they attach too the top of the shock)

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  6 лет назад

      So I do not like to change the width of these older cars. I am adamant that they retain some of the original style. That was why I made it so that the stock rear tires and rims still fit this suspension. The car does have oil shocks all around but they are all crappy i think. My plan is to completely do away with the front shock tower since the Frog never had one and do an on-board bell crank unit. The tower and the front geometry, as you pointed out, seem to not play nice. I agree., the arm= needs to be reworked. I love the idea with the brace between the towers. I have done something like the before and it works awesome.

  • @DeadnCold
    @DeadnCold 7 лет назад

    Would basically recreating the front suspension from your King Blackfoot fix the problem? I've never owned one but it looks much more stable.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  7 лет назад

      I thought about that but I also want it compatible with the stock front "springs". This is going to be tricky.

  • @modelnutty6503
    @modelnutty6503 7 лет назад +1

    oh you already know my near hate on those ORV's, those stock rear arms with their cantilevered shocks, those front suspension arms relying on a long steel eye bolt etc etc yada-yada-ya (and bah! lol). I'm going to agree and suggest... yes to longer front swing arms and only to a length that ALMOST matches up to the width of the outer rear tire width, like maybe 1/4" short of on both sides, and if I remember correctly that's about 3/8" or 1/2" longer than the stock. for those eye bolt bars, wrestling with a few heavier bicycle spokes should get you there. shock tower a little shorter, same shocks bottoms mounted further out giving more travel and more stiffness both. not a fan of that front suspension configuration at all, but do think those things would improve it a bunch while still staying within the stock look theme and function. the slightly shorter shock tower, might move the upper shock mounting points outboard 1/4" worth, thinking angle and spring compression/strength to stay in line with the extended length swing arms. honestly I'm much more impressed with your upper ball linked front end for the Hornet, could be a really cool bolt on replacement to the ORV spaceframe if tweaked to fit with a matching shock tower to bolt on.... but that's getting a long way away from that ORV front end, not like you didn't go there in back either tho, whoops! OH WHAT DID I JUST SAY?.... I said copyright patent pending and charge Tamiya for serious design improvement where they can still use their ORV space frame they like to mass produce, is what. keep doing your awesome tinkering man!

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  7 лет назад

      Yeah they have some seriously weird ideas on those cars, none of which worked but it was the beginnings of RC so no one know what was going to work. I have an idea that will look almost stock but completely replace the wire retainer and the upper and lower links as well as the front H1 bumper. I have a couple projects ahead of this but I think I have solved it.

      I have not seen much that that car needs other than cosmetic upgrades. For me, that car is a much more of a scaler than a basher. I have a lot of upgrades for the cosmetics of the WO & FAV that can be seen on this channel. What were you thinking to upgrade on the car? As for the diff, it will not fit at all. We are designing a ball diff for the Hotshot family that may also fit the WO & FAV.
