LOL!!!! I have taught in elementary 3rd to 5th and EBD. I have never took on the "Disney Tone" unless, I'm being sarcastic. I once had a student say, "Your making that voice my mom makes when she is being sarcastic." The greatest part of elementary. I agree, elementary students do not rationalize at all. Great show!
Another great episode of KC, Gabe, and Jess! KC is right though elementary teachers work harder than secondary teachers, we have more paperwork on our plate. Conferences need to be adjusted across the board! I schedule out my conferences two weeks before the actual day, so I can get work done. Middle school and high school should all be student-led, makes it so the student can explain themselves better with evidence to parents. If they want more in-depth schedule one with all 6 teachers. I will keep saying this, Gabe looks so much happier with these two! KC and Jess don't nitpick eveything he says and does. Cant believe we only got one more week of this crew:(
It's crazy because I hated pe as a kid, but in high school, it was a great brain break. I didn't appreciate it then, but I'd love to go back and have it every year instead of just the one time. It did wonders for teaching me how to manage my mental health through simply walking or taking a break to talk to someone, play a game or do something else. It's scientifically proven that all children need it. Even older ones.
Great episode. I will say as a first grade teacher, I don't use the "Disney teacher" voice often. I am straight with the kids in a first grade friendly way. I look at it as building habits for life so they need to be aware of things.
As an outdoor ed teacher getting them into nature, and like you guys said moving is important. Many of aren't use to hiking, or being active all day. Something we teach is the 4c care, corruption, commitment, and communication. All those to try to help them to talk in a kind way, how to act to others in the school
Teaching kids about mental health is a good and bad thing. Its good if you are teaching that a variety of feelings are normal, ways to deal with it and who to go to for help; but a daily focus on mental health encourages self centredness, dwelling on emotions and chronic reliance on supports. It also promotes the costly "wellness" industry. No other generation focuses on itself as this one!
I understand where you are coming from and can see your point about a hyperfocus on mental health and the wellness industry. However, I would like to push back on the statement that this generation is the most selfish generation. I will admit some of my examples may not apply to what everyone has seen but please bare with me. Early Gen X and the prior could have parents sends them out at 8am in the Summer and not allow the kids back in the house until dinner time and not know where the child is all day as long as they are not being bother. Or seeing couples who prioritized their relationship to the point of leaving kids with 10 or 11 year old babysitters so they can do date night. These things are probably still happening now but I think we question the impact of it more. We no longer have commercials saying "it's 10 o'clock. Do you know where your children are?" Not trying to be ignorant. Genuinely trying to have a conversation. Have a good say! 😊

No other generation does it because the 90s babies have skyrocketed the suicidal rate so they are now needing to take preventive measures
