Everything about this, from the mediocre recording quality and the various mistakes to the fact that it's just two dudes playing in a makeshift studio, is perfect. No polish, no cuts, just some guys playing the hell out of their instruments and yelling into the mic song after song after song. Man. It's just such an earnest tribute, done in a way that feels more in the spirit of the music than most covers out there.
yeah, nirvana was one of those bands that had an air of raw authenticity that can only be replicated by just not giving a damn if you make mistakes because thats how the music was usually recorded. even the lyrics resemble this a lot of the time. songs like smells like teen spirit, territorial pissings, sliver, very ape, and even breed have very random and at times weird lyrics with meaning but very vague meaning if that makes any sense. kurt was one of the last punks that actually embodied punk.
@@bigboyemotheescamo78 100%! It kills me every time I see a musician who visibly has no concept of punk just pulling some over-produced, pretentious cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit out their ass, acting like it's some kind of profound masterwork they need to pay their respects to by turning it into a dramatic ballad or whatever. But the reality is that it was recorded in just a few messy takes that had to be fixed in post, Kurt's singing was pretty much always off-key in performances, the tempo changed all the time, the guitar parts were often improvised on a whim, etc. It's impossible to put on a genuine, faithful performance of that song unless you accept that it's a "choose your own adventure" kind of deal that's more about vibes than technical perfection. I mean, there's literally a line that goes "oh well, whatever, never mind."
That's all to say: If Kurt were still alive, I know he would *hate* that dramatic garbage they used in Black Widow. The fact that someone earnestly recorded something like that is just painfully embarrassing.
@@yyrael yeah and dont even get me started on what people do with metal nowadays. i like a lot of more recent metal. deathcore, metalcore, post hardcore, even nu metal. i genuinely enjoy the more original stuff, but covers are another thing entirely. uzi. uzi and his damned cover of chop suey!, i swear. it embodies everything i hate about modern rap and crosses it over with something i do like. the level of disgrace pisses me off. im gonna talk about something i do like now so i dont punch a 3rd hole in my wall this week. you listen to any sleeping with sirens or slipknot?

@@SUMMONER917 yes they do.
@@SUMMONER917 anybody who plays music knows that the bassist is the backbone of most tracks. when he's playing smells like teen spirit and it gets to the verses, you can feel how empty the song is without the bassist. yeah, it can be good without, but to truly make that song feel whole, they need one
As a diehard Nirvana fan.... I think this is awesome! It's raw, realistic, done in a non pretentious way and this video, the fact it was done in one take shows you guys have a lot of potential. I think you have done a great job!
Y'all hating on literally 14/15 y/o kids who make A COMPLETE ALBUM COVER and WITHOUT BASS. I'm 7 years late to the show. I never learned how to play guitar but I can create my own music. One of my first bands in high school we played covers. I hated playing covers because I only knew how to read tab music. We covered Metallica, Nirvana, Sepultura, Smashing Pumpkins, Slayer, Pantera, Megadeth, Greed Day, Radiohead, STP, and The Cure. We did some Misfit covers but it wasn't our music. So one of my friends had a death metal band that played all originals. It was my moment to teach my bandmates stuff I wrote and we played death metal, black metal, punk, blues, shoegaze, and we exploded! Unfortunately the band broke up I moved to Denton TX and started another band that almost got signed to Vinnie Paul's record label. That's another story, but you guys remind me where I started.
