20:56 I ran the mug room on my shift at the local county jail. I attached a small fake bird from a craft store to our camera so I could say, "Look at the birdy!" when I took mug shots. It actually became somewhat famous among the criminal crowd...as we had arrestees transported in from other counties who had heard of the bird before they saw it for themselves.
I'm really impressed with the officers making sure female inmates would be safe along with keeping their arrestee safe during placement.
Why do "female" inmates need protecting?
Love that the way they treat people is just matter of fact. Know there are biases built into people but being a professional as possible sure helps. The patience by these guys is admirable.
When you have to be hog-tied because you have zero self-control;….it’s sad when even that isn’t someone’s rock bottom.
A lot of alchys and druggies rock bottoms are 6' under.

These detainees should be made to watch video of themselves during their release from jail. Give them a reminder of what they acted like. It could be a deterrent of sorts. 😮

Corrections officers are not all police officers. In many places they are 2 separate careers with different qualities sought.

when i worked county corrections I used to love it when some assaultive inmate would ask how many guys i would call to control them. my answer was always "as many as it takes because you won't win in here"

In these circumstances unfortunately substance abuse and/or mental illness are probably the largest impacting factors on behavior.

Most of the problems not all, but most come because these perps believe that the officers in the jail have the power and ability to let them go. They don’t realize that they do not. That is why they act the way they do, so when the officers don’t give in, they act out. If it were explained to them that they have no say, ability or authority to drop charges or change the outcome

Most are drunk or drugged on top of any issues. Isolation from stimuli helps calm down all issues, and lets them sober up.

I’ve always wondered where these guys who fight with the guards think they are going to run to? Even if they somehow fight off the 3 guards around them they are still in a locked down jail. You’re going nowhere.
