      @Leopold Holding value doesn't mean better quality neccesarily. The jeep wrangler has excellent resale but not very good quality or reliable. Not knocking the tundra they are good but the f150 is better in every category other than reliability and that's cause the tundra is a simple truck that's pretty much the same for over a decade. Not alot of options or configurations. The f150 has like 6 different engines to choose from and all kinds of crazy options even massage seats. F150 is the number one selling vehicle because you can get it in so many configurations and stays atleast 1 step ahead on technology.

      So I owned 2012 and 2017 F150. My favorite body style of any truck. My favorite for power. My favorite for style BUT I will never own another one!! Both trucks Required Timing chain replacement around 60k miles. The 2012 cost me 4K to replace. The 2016 cost me 6k!!!!!! Numerous sensors in both trucks bad around 50k miles!! Maintenace costs on F150s is HORRIBLE!!! Reliability on F150 is HORRIBLE!!
      I now only by tundras. Drove last one to 288k miles. Changed fluids, tires and brakes!! Nothing more. Tundra limited or TRD is just as nice inside as F150! Will pull a trailer or boat just as well or better than F150. Gas mileage a little better than F150! No, it’s not as sporting looking but that look isn’t worth the extreme maintenace costs!!!! IMO

      As a tradesman for 40+ years my TWO top requirements were cost over life of the truck and reliability. (ya can't make money if yer trux broke) WAY back Dodge was close to Ford. No more, and GM has always been more about style than function. I absolutely LOVED the old 300 CID inline six. Not for speed demons, but unbreakable if ya kept the oil changed and never overheated them. That engine wore out every body it ever powered. Most bulletproof engine ever! (a small caveat, I think, from lottsa reading that the new 10 speed transmission is a LOSER. Not real crazy about dual turbos either. But then I'm retireded so it ain't my problem any mo)

    I had an '86 F-150 and used it to plow my kilometer-long driveway for 5 years. Very, very tough driveline and strong, simple V-8 that would start on the coldest days with a shot of gas in the carburetor. Today's Ford trucks not so much- unlabelled fuse panels, special service tools for everything, an engineering team that actually released the Triton engine with the inconceivable spark plug flaws, and a welded drive shaft carrier bearing that should cost $25 to replace, now requiring a customer to replace the entire drive shaft for $1800. And Ford still is the leader, since other automakers seem to be following suit with their corporate strategy of forcing return trips to the dealership for stupid repairs.

    I’ve only bought one F150 in my life. That was in 1996 and it was a half year 1997. The reason I only bought one is because I still drive it today. I had to replace the starter a couple of years ago, the front sway bar end links since the rubber rotted away and just last year the cpu for $150. That’s around $300 in 24 years. Can’t figure how they sell so many since I probably won’t live long enough to buy another one.

      Jose Muniz yeah people tell me, “well your Ford has been in the shop 4 times and my Chevy has only been in the shop once” so they ask me what needed to be fixed. The VCT solenoids were replaced, spark plugs, crankshaft position sensor and the throttle body were also replaced. So I asked them the same question. “My Chevy has only been in the shop once to have the engine replaced”. My 2006 F-150 has 260k and my friends Silverado has 193k. I would rather my truck be in the shop 4 times for minor work ($650) then to have it in the shop once for a engine overhaul ($3k). Lol

I guess it's all progress, but I find it hilarious how my '94 Nissan Sentra only weighs 2,000 pounds while a new one weighs 3,000, 50% more. Most half ton trucks nowadays weigh around 5-6 thousand pounds, from what I've found an early 90s F150 weighs only 4,000.

    Hey Scotty, I am a Historian and a life long Ford pickup enthusiast. I just wanted to point out a couple of tweaks in this video. At 6:13 you were discussing the 7th generation F-150, but displayed a picture of a 9th generation F-150 truck. Not only that, but the 9th generation F-150 was actually produced from 1992 - 1996, but the F-250 and 350 of that generation were produced until 1997. The 10th generation F-150 actually started in 1997 with an overall of the typical square body design. While the F-250's and 350's were skipped a year in production, and were not seen again until 1999 with the new "Superduty" as they are tagged. Except there were a few rare F-250's made in 1998 that had the body of a 10th generation F-150. Another thing, at 8:05 you referred to that truck as a "supercab", when it was actually a crew cab truck. The crewcabs have the full 4 doors on a truck, while the supercabs are also known as the extended cab with suicide doors. Other than that, great video as always Scotty!

    I owned a 1991 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat . Among the faults : Thin Colonial White paint that was single-stage and oxidized easily, an exhaust bracket that rusted away easily and created a hard-to-find rattle, shocks that wore out quickly, a gas tank that rusted through in about 6 years, various things designed to require special tools such as the Torx 40 screw used on the Upper Intake Manifold that required a extra-long Torx-40 socket from Snap-On Tools to reach it , A stabilizer bar link and bolts that was left off at the factory , a suspension part that caught on the steering linkage in turns, door lock actuators that were vulnerable to rusting from condensation dripping in and required a pop-rivet tool to replace , a factory defective ignition modulator that popped , a funny cooling system that had to be bled correctly to get the bubble out of its tummy by removal of a hose if you changed the coolant, a problematic E-40D transmission that was only used on two model years of the F-150 , a headlight switch prone to frying ( you had to buy a tougher upgraded replacement that required soldering to install and the wires on the replacement were not color coded . The alternator plug could fry so you had to use an upgraded plug when you replaced the Alternator . They discontinued the brand new wiper motors in favor of selling reman junk that had so many problems that they stopped selling the remans and made you buy a later new wiper motor and an adapter kit to put it on the 1991 . Ignition switch recall . My oil pan gasket leaked and what a bear to replace ! Lots more . They discontinued parts such as the computer over the years so planned obsolescence made you buy another truck .
    Toyota Tundra is what I have now . Nuff said !

      347,000 on my f150, 22 years of towing heavy loads as a work truck everyday! Still going and making money! My ford rangers had 250,00 miles on them when we sold them. And we often overloaded and over towed with them.

    All you have to do is look at all the recalls and TSB technical service bulletins and look at all the problems they are having with the engines and transmissions and tell me how good a truck they are. Then compare that to the tundra. If your truck is in the shop it’s not making you money. It’s all about cost of ownership.

    I bought a Tundra new in 2007, still runs fine. Not the best designed truck but amazing 5.7L engine is hard to beat. But I live in the big city. If I moved to a small town I'd be better off with a Ford. More likely to find a Ford dealer and parts in small town USA, and less likely to get shot at.

    This is where I disagree with Scotty. My dad has an F150 and I have two Tundras. My dad's F150s transmission went out at 115K miles while my original Tundra still has its original transmission and is at 250K miles. I eventually gave that Tundra to my dad and he is using that one for work after he sold the F150. I drive an 07 Tundra with 210K miles and it's a tank. Tundras are far better than F150s.

    • @PanzergrauModels
      @PanzergrauModels 4 года назад +1

      They are indeed, while the Japanese become weaker. Toyota seems to have lost their way. Hyundai was the most innovative producer in the last few years (regular market). Their design is about the most attractive on the market and the price / quality / reliability report is probably best. Like 5 years ago I won't even consider a KIA or a Hyundai. Tomorrow I might buy one.
