incredible comment
yup 👍 you said it 😳
100% would love a split ceremony. The separate ceremony thing is what the Tonys did for 2021 as their post-shut down ceremony. The first 90 minutes was the awards and the second 90 minutes was both performances of nominated shows and a large tribute to broadway with casts and special guests performing songs from beloved shows of the past. It was the most fun Tonys I'd ever seen.
James Acaster hosting the Grammies would be chaotic af but I'd be here for it
Last years Grammys had a medley of hip hop music performance to celebrate 50 years of hip hop. Tons of rappers came on stage and it was magical. I would love if they did that every year: celebrate a specific genre of music. Bringing in new and young pop stars for modern pop music. Old and new country artists.
This is my favorite idea so far. Music is instant versatility and history so to see how that's interpreted on stage would be cool

My favourite weird performance on Grammy was back when Linkin Park and Jay Z were performing Numb/Encore and all of a sudden Sir Paul McCartney comes and starts singing Yesterday. That blew my mind and it was so good.
Wtf hahaha
That ice spice rolling stones performance is genius
How to save the Grammy's ceremony
1. Have Mic the Snare host
That's it, that's the comment
Host AND DIRECT IT! Give the man full creative freedom 🎉
If he hosted I would 1000% watch
Also, give him a sharpie to fix the egregious vote totals?
My idea is simple, get Frank Ocean to come out of hiding and have him do a performance with Radiohead. Their styles are so different yet I feel like like they could blend in with each other for some reason
frank ocean actually did a cover of fake plastic trees, it’s fantastic
They both make depressing music that’s somehow also beautiful
You're so right about that Imagine Dragons/ Kendrick Lamar performance. It was the first Grammys I watched (It was a big deal in New Zealand because of all the Lorde nominations) and I remember being floored by it. I just went to rewatch it because it was so great.
I remember watching it after being sick of Imagine Dragons and expecting to laugh at it, and then it turned out to be the most entertaining thing they’ve ever done as a band
BABE GET IN HERE MIC SNARE DROPPED
I think they should perform more songs for the tribute section. The Grammy performance of London Calling in memoriam of Joe Strummer with Bruce Springesteen, Elvis Costello and Dave Grohl is one of the greatest ever. To have a band of artist that were influenced/are fans of those that have passed performing a song in tribute is much more respectful than black and white pictures and an orchestral version of a pop ballad.
You telling us that for the Grammys to succeed they need to only give awards to crazy frog was an unexpected way to start my evening, but I’ll take it
I just want to comment to tell you that you’re my all time favorite RUclipsr. I first started watching when the Beatles ddd was made and I have been watching ever since
Thank you so much!!!!
Bruh almost me too his beatles DDD was the first vídeo I watched from him
That Imagine Dragons Kendrick colab performance was one of the only Grammy performances I've ever watched in the past decade and it still lives in my brain, along with the Isosine mashup that does the same thing
The Daft Punk performance with Pharrell and Stevie Wonder will always remain one of if not the greatest Grammys performance, and it was all due to how RIGHT it felt. Random Access Memories was the long awaited release from a group that everyone loved, and its sound was incredibly unique to pop music at the time. Its R&B and dance music inspirations practically jump-started the 2013-2015 trend of pop musicians drawing on classical production for their songs, and "Get Lucky" was the largest song of the year because of its groovy flow and accessibility.
So not only did you have Daft Punk and Pharrell performing in one of the duo's first live appearances since Alive 2007, but you had a backing band with Niles Rodgers and Stevie Wonder, two of the most influential disco artists to ever walk the face of the earth!? And Stevie Wonder busts out singing "Another Star" and it flows PERFECTLY into "Get Lucky"!?
There will never be a Grammys moment like that ever again. It would take some of the greatest talent in this world to create such a magical musical moment, let alone for an awards show.
all I know is that I enjoy watching the premiere ceremony because they hand out so many awards and you can tell that the people who bother to show up to that ceremony deeply appreciate being recognised (since it's usually the more niche categories). it's more fun to me because it's mostly a bunch of (relatively) non-famous people who seem incredibly passionate about what they do. the main show is so focused on the glamour that I get the feeling that it lacks that passion for music, even though that's what they're trying to sell you.
Absolutely agreed about that Kendrick/Imagine Dragons performance. It was absolutely electric and the remix they released afterwards is fantastic as well.
One of my favorite oddball collabs that happened was when Taylor Swift did ‘Today Was A Fairytale’/‘You Belong With Me’ and did ‘Rhiannon’ with Stevie Nicks. Though what made it oddball was that Butch Walker was playing banjolin for this entire performance and Taylor essentially did his arrangement of ‘You Belong With Me’ from when he covered it a couple of months prior.
Then I think a year or two later is when The Civil Wars introduced her performance of ‘Mean’ and sang ‘Barton Hollow’ a cappella? Absolutely lives rent free in my head and I wish we had more moments like that.
tbh my only suggestion form making the ceremony better (aside from including more weird/unlikely performances like you mentioned) would be to just replace the voting body entirely with people who are actually in touch with contemporary music and don’t give out undeserved awards like candy to legacy acts
I have an indescribable interest in award shows with Grammy's being my favorite, so I needed this video.
If I were to add anything specific:
- Most Big 4 Nominees should get a chance to perform (if they want) in some way. Best New Artist nominees are incentivized to collab, esp with one another.
- Better showcase of producers and songwriters
- Make the lifetime achievement/tribute more of an event
Maybe they could include like, i dunno, more music? 😂
At least from the lesser known categories. That way, at least eyebrows wouldn't be constantly raised whenever those categories came up.
Also a host who has both a musical and stage/theatre/film background - who can reflect on both sides of the ceremony would be great.
Also, thumbs up for more insane performances and ridiculous collaborations
Absolutely 100% agree on wanting more weird collabs. The 2012 Foo Fighters x deadmau5 performance using the mau5 remix of Rope to transition blew me away when I was younger because I had no idea that sort of thing was even possible. It's not much to watch nowadays, but it affected a ton back then. More of that please!
james acaster hosting the grammy's is the best idea i've heard this decade
Who? I only heard James Uhcaster
I think you mean the leader of the former SW6 gang
Stevie Nicks & Lana Del Ray is a performance that I 100% need
You sneaky bastard, I hear the Bombrush Cyberfunk soundtrack being your bumps. It's awesome!!
honestly a noah kahan & foo fighters performance would absolutely slay, I vote on a The View Between Villages/February Stars medley, I know they could make something perfect out of that xD
LL Cool J is the only host that made sense to me. He has nice speech skills, fully understand the industry by being a musician and don't waste time with comedic bits like the comedians.
At this point, I would welcome a complete overhaul of the Grammys ceremony. We need something to get people talking and get them listening to smaller artists! I don't have time to watch the video yet so maybe we're already on the same wavelength here, but I would absolutely love to see some titans in the industry collab with up and coming artists for a performance. I mean, imagine the conversations that could flow from it! Anyway, thank you for consistently being my favorite musictuber, I hope your break provided you the rest and rejuvenation you needed ❤
I’d love to see more collabs between artists across genres. I have a soft spot for Nelly’s country song collabs over the years even though I don’t listen to country and it would be cool to see more stuff like that at the Grammys. And it would be cool to see medleys of the songs nominated (maybe as an experiment and not all at once) because that would be so much fun to see how the production for that would go and again, crossing genres.
One of my favorite weird collaborations was Linkin Park, Jay-Z, and Paul McCartney doing Yesterday in 2006
Shoutout the recording academy not awarding renaissance album of the year at last years ceremony bc it led me to your past videos about the grammys and an overall deep dive of this channel. Every video is so well done thank you for providing us with content
I literally paused the video and looked up the Kendrick and Imagine Dragons performance and I'm so glad I did. That was fire. I totally agree on making things weird! I remember around Y2K the VMAs had amazing performances that were full of surprises and we need some surprise collabs and insane remixes to make the performances truly special to the event itself.
Grammy ceremony jam session
THANK YOU I think about the Kendrick/Imagine Dragons collab at least once a week it is incredible and iconic
a vince staples hosted grammys would have me glued to the screen
Any live mashup performance will spice up the award, especially when many songs nowadays utilize sampling.
just finished this vid and moved onto watchin the premiere ceremony for the 2024 grammys and they literally opened with a collab j. ivy, PENTATONIX, larkin poe, jordin sparks, sheila e, AND IT WAS CRAZY ?! theyre all in such separate genres but holy it was so well done... havent gotten through the rest of the ceremonies but i rly hope this is just the beginning
5:38 Those AOTY roundtables are one of the few things that I’ll readily and without hesitation call “cringe”, like back-to-back you have a woman in a wheelchair saying “Mister Morale speaks to the trauma that I’m so intimately familiar with as an African-American and Kendrick bought me this wheelchair” & then some Pilates instructor next to her follows up with “that new ABBA record had some bops tho”
Thanks for continuing to use BRC music in videos that have no mention of the game, never ceases to boost my mood haha
Also remember when Foo Fighters & deadmau5 did a collab performance at the Grammys?? Need more of that energy
Here from the future to say I haven’t stopped watching the Tracy Chapman/ Luke combs duet, cried so much what a beautiful tribute
if paramore don't win best rock album i might have to reenter my hot topic Whoa I Never Meant To Brag phase and you're not gonna like the aftermath .
great video mike!
I loved your ATCQ retrospection but this breakdown of the Grammy AND bumpers from Bombrush Cyberfunk (which I feel video game music being excused from the Grammys is sinful in itself) is a nice reminder why I sub to you.
I implore you to make a video about the short-lived tradition from Converse (the shoe company) of 3 artists one song.
hell yeah vincent stapler!!!
We definitely need more of those collaboration and weird performances, but they don't need to go too crazy. Usually, having just two artists works best (another good one that's recent is Dua Lipa and St. Vincent's performance). It all depends because if you have performed your biggest song at other big awards shows like MTV or AMA, it makes sense to take a chance on an album track that can translate well into a live performance (P!nk did this perfectly with Glitter in the Air), but if this is the biggest stage in music and you released the song of the century, it's best you perform that song to cap it all off (like Adele did with Rolling in the Deep).
hey mr. mic I hope you're doing well I am big fan of your videos and I was wondering if you have any plans to do an DDD on the Cure? Keep the great work comming!
Amazing content as always.
The Marvel vs. Capcom 2 music at the beginning of the video deserves all the Grammys. Also you and I are now BFFs.
close enough, drop the imagine dragons deep discog dive.
Yippie. New upload from my king🥰
Another idea: you have a the performance and reward sections divided, with the rewards last, BUT at the end of the rewards, you have an surprise artist do a cover of the song of the year. I have no idea how youd pick the artist, as theyd have to know beforehand, and it couldnt be someone nominated for song of the year that year, but it would get alot of excitement and keep people engaged for both sections of the show
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk music for the transitions niiiice.
Is that the fuckin Building The Rocket theme from the original Wallace and Gromit short playing at 7:16 💀💀
My favorite Grammys performance was when Nine Inch Nails, QotSA, Dave Grohl, and Lindsey Buckingham played “Copy of a” and “My God is the Sun” in 2013. Oh and it didn’t make it to air 🙃
Building off your performance idea: what if the bulk of the performance show was a selection of those nominated for songs/ music video's/ performances. Then, the climax is a collab between two artist's who are nominated for albums/ lifetime achievement doing a set together. You could even do two of these sets if get two seperate pairs of artists to collab on a specific show
I thought for a full second that the whole video was just going to be the "make them shorter and earlier" banner for 9 minutes.
great video though!!
Mashups are my favourite
I was HOOKED for ages on twenty one pilots’ mashup of heathens and stressed out for 2016 AMA’s
I don't listen to Kendrick or Imagine Dragons too much but their Grammy performance is amazing I watch it every few months 😂
I always remember when Taylor & Miley did a performance together & I was 16 & was like WTF is happening 2 artists doing a song together but yeah I defs like the collab & change up of songs for performance.
OH MY GOD NEW MIC VIDEOOOOOOO
Wait till he sees how long Asia Music Awards lol, its definitely longer than Grammys
MAMA and MMA, they've lasted 6 hours! Some had 3 days!
ikr lol@@LynnHermione
The Tonys are actually a perfect comparison, bc the performances /are/ a huge ad for Broadway, to the point the Tonys literally negotiated airing during the writer’s strike last year bc they were so worried about Broadway ticket sales tanking without people being able to learn about shows at the Tonys.
We missed you Mr. Mic
A live mashup dream performance would be Boulevard of Broken Songs, the classic Dean Gray track that combines Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Wonderwall, a Travis song that features that previous word (don't know much about the band, sorry) and Dream On. Get Green Day, Liam Gallagher, Steven Tyler and the guy from Travis together on stage and we're in for a mashup of legends. Any track from that American Edit mashup album would be amazing live imo.
The annual Mic The Snare Grammy’s video 😁
Do away with the main ceremony. The pre-ceremony where they just hammer out the awards is way more entertaining!
the wild and weird collaborations... I NEED THEM KNOW!
The Kendrick and Imagine Dragons was legit one of the most exciting Granny performances ever.
Also if they still don't get how weird is great they should watch the CMA Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton collab.
Also speaking of Chris Stapleton the Monday night football version of In The Air Tonight is another great example with him and Snoop of all people. Very weird
Sure they don't always work (Eminem and Elton John) but they always get people taking
I'd like to see something like Foo Fighters and Dojs Cat. The best ones are so weird they shouldn't work but somehow they do
6:05
Ahh! So like the synth collaboration in 1985, featuring Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Howard Jones and Thomas Dolby, with each of them getting a small solo moment?! I would be down for something like that!
ruclips.net/video/E-NgnympxAE/видео.htmlsi=fi_vIg5TgmPrBuKP
Yes! We need Maneskin, Taylor Swift, Grupo Frontera, and Jelly Roll produced by Metro Boomin’ in our lives yesterday!
EVERYONE went insane when kendrick dropped that verse. And he STILL got outshined by the dragons somehow.
I think the problem with collab performances is that it’s just a crap ton of logistics. Everything from scheduling to the performers egos. I get why people don’t want to go through that but it would be really cool.
I love all those wierd links and bits of VT - I'm also one of those wierdos who loves long live broadcasts. The Grammys should be more like Eurovision
Prob a weird question, but what ever happened to your video on the guy who “conned” the Grammys? I was looking for it with Grammy season coming around again and I couldn’t find it
I want more televised rnb categories. SZA been an R&B artist, and having the most Grammy nominations this year, while only one R&B category is televised as wild. Same thing with rap and hip-hop. The Grammys showcase, their love celebrating 50 years of existence last year, then didn’t televise a single rap or hip-hop category.
2:07 Fun fact, before Trevor Noah was on the Daily Show he was a famous South African comedian, which is how he got the gig, and how he started hosting events like the Grammys.
Can you make a video on VH1's SoundClash. It was such unique idea that everyone forgot happened
agreed! one perfect weird collision was when st vincent and dua lipa sang the masseduction/one kiss mashup
im from argentina and here they start at 10pm and end at 1:30am, it’s torture pls make them shorter
Absolutely correct
I want Nardwuar to host the Grammys. Chaos would reign, it would be glorious.
lol bro no one is watching that shit at 3pm on the west coast, that’s a friggen crazy frog idea you had there, and not in the way that crazy frog was the number one song in both the US and the UK for multiple weeks but in the way that crazy frog is really friggen crazy.
8:40 but isn't the Tonys just promotion for the musicals (saw a video that that was why they still held it during the strike)?
Nice video but what was that pronunciation of James Acaster
This year the Oscars in fact are moving up the ceremony an hour earlier. Not sure if that's due to it being the day after Daylight Savings or so to relieve us East Coasters.
Patreon when?
I also like medleys. If an artist is gonna just do their own music, AT LEAST give me a cool medley with a unique arrangement!
The mvc2 track 👌👌
30 seconds in and I'm already hearing Marvel vs Capcom 2 music. Mic the Snare, truly a man of culture.
Who you main in tatsunoko vs capcom mic 👁️
Did you change the thumbnail?
ok but why did you call Good Kid, Maad City kendricks debut when his debut was section. 80?
Yes I agree the whole ceremony should be shorter. Make it 2 hours, but still leave at least 15 extra minutes in case of technical difficulties or someone has to start over. Also the first hour is awards, second hour has memorium followed by performances with one big over-the-top performance to close out the night.
This will get rid of the all the speeches and dumb antics. It's things like this which makes the Grammys close to being unwatchable.
I totally agree with you on this. It really feels like a wasted opportunity for them to chase the same thing the Oscars are going for without using what makes the medium unique to their advantage
8:58 what’s the song that plays from this timestamp?
Agreed, the Kendrick x Imagine Dragons performance was AMAZING
I hope they do a roundtable discussion so i can sneak in and say that Blarf’s “Cease & Desist” should win album of the year.
I feel like Western music award shows pale in comparison to Asian ones. I was BLOWN AWAY the first time I watched the MAMA's and MMA's and I watch them every year. Yeah they are wayyy too long (the MAMA's are over 2 days) but the performances are what make it so special. You'll hardly ever hear a song as if its straight off the album, with a remix or a dance break version and there are always special collab stages or idols performing other artist's songs. The performances are incredibly high budget and watching them really showcases a lot of the talent nominated. It's so exciting for the industry and fans. I feel like it would be worth it to check out some MAMA/MMA performances from 2018, 2019, 2020 (peak years imo).
Nah, I would actually love the see the weird combo performances. Rolling Stones x Ice Spice would be fun to see what they come up with.
ice spice and the rolling stones collab was an inspired vision
