As a rock drummer I was searching jazz. Went to the RECORD store picked this album, and this song incredibly challenged anything I could think of. Changed me.

I loved this group from the first time I heard them. I was at a Chaka Khan concert and the Yellow Jackets opened for her. I was hooked on them ever since.

1988 in Mombasa Kenya on safari at Amboseli Lodge, Tsavo this cut burned in to my ears and mind the beauty of the sight of great Mount Kilimanjaro, the plains of Tsavo and Tanzania. My 2nd time there i will never forget it. Especially when i hear this cut.

Thank you Yellowjackets. Been a fan since 1987 as a teenager. Your music has been a great influence and inspiration in my life. Thank you for my introduction into jazz.

Four Corners. First CD I ever purchased based on recommendation of sales person. It wasn't the kind of music I was used to, it was better. It is exceptional and sounds better now.

I'll never forget seeing Jim Haslip on stage so young and vibrant,to see him swinging his mid to long length hair to the beat as he made love to his bass. Will Kennedy hitting each drum with a some what angry look on his face as if he was fighting with his set,Russell Ferrante, fully concentrated and looking like Schroeder from the "peanuts" comic strip as he played every piano key with precision and the fabulous Marc Russo who would stand in front of an audience like a statue with no name but would sound out some of the most beautiful melodies on a sax that I have ever heard in modern jazz! They looked like college students just out to jam for fun. No pay. It was exciting to see them that way in the late 80's I was someone who was just discovering modern jazz. This song reminds me of that first time that I laid eyes on them!

At least 15 years ago, there used to be a radio show simply called "The Health Show". This was the intro music. It stuck with me and I looked up the show and found a recording. Tonight I Shazamed it and now I'm here. Funny how things shake out.
    Surf Wisely.

Beautiful song and for me a late discovery in 2019 - I never knew this track in 1987 - I find it an inspiring song that makes me think about the electronic techno music that I had produced in the 90s - but this jazz track is almost live human without almost I think the influence of a machine computer.

i heard this realtime, but now i know this has complicated texture at beginning (-_-).
and the theme melody is unison of sax and bass.
then the bass sound is? maybe synth lower zone.
    beautiful song!
another verse, bass does as usual.
left side monotonous one note sequence changes subtlely the tone.
    so maniac programming!

    Is this a 6/8 (@0:00 - 1:24) into a 3/4 time signature (@1:25 - 2:03) ??..

    • @io3213
      @io3213 Год назад

I feel like the song was intended to be 3/4 throughout, albeit perhaps with a little misdirection in the first few bars. But I see both of those time signatures are equivalent and largely a matter of perspective. In other words there can sometimes be no definitive way of telling whether a song is 3/4 or 6/8. I think one could also hear this as 4/4 with a 'triplet swing' feel.
