      @@roshi98It is possible. She would have access to memories up until the point of her conception.
      My point is Tula only told her what she needed to hear so that she would “willingly” undergo the agony. Tula hid the fact Valya killed her grandmother. This revelation is what broke her mind.
      It was a risk that Tula was willing to take. She was likely tasked to be Lila’s mother figure given her lineage.

    At this point in history, the sisterhood had not started the Kwisatz Haderach breeding program. I believe this series provides the origin story for that. Ibelieve Desmond Hart is a natural Kwisatz Haderach, a man with access to male ‘other memory’. I believe the sisterhood’s encounter/conflict with him is what will change the sisterhood’s focus from breeding “good leaders” to breeding for a Kwisatz Haderach under their control and loyal to them.

      The very concept of a Kwisatz Haderach didn't exist this early. Spice was a new thing, the Fremen didn't exist yet, no Guild Navigators yet due to no spice, no full Mentats, and space travel was wildly dangerous without computers. I’ve been thinking that as crazy as this may sound, maybe Desmond has been trained as a Mentat? Because this is part of a trilogy regarding the schools of Dune and it would be interesting if they follow through with a season regarding that particular school and a season regarding the Spacing Guild. I just feel like when he’s doing his burning act and he’s holding his head as if he’s got a migraine or something, it reminds me of the eyes rolling back into the head of Thufir (spelling?), when he calculates the cost of having the Herald arrive on Caladan. I realize that this is a longshot, but you never know until you know.

    One thing that has always bothered me about the Dune novel and films is how easily the baron seemingly breaks Dr Yueh's conditioning. The fact that he may or may not have been holding his wife hostage and possibly torturing her was certainly something that would understandably bother him, but the fact that no Suk doctor had been broken for the hundreds or even thousands of years the order has been around makes me think that it should be neigh on impossible to do short of some incredible combination of extremely powerful space drugs and the worst mental / psychological / physical torture imaginable. Threatening to torture and kill his wife is horrific but not at that level. It makes it seem like the "conditioning" is just marketing bullshit and doesn't exist. Either the Suk are lying about the conditioning never having been broken, or Dr Yueh was the first Suk doctor whose conditioning had really been tested in the real world. It's like saying that it is impossible for an off duty police officer to be pulled over for DUI because police never break any laws.

    • @wordsworthstone
      @wordsworthstone 2 месяца назад +1

      imo, frank herbert put a lot of thought into the development of the lore but little regard towards immersion, as long he got his point across. for example, what is suk conditioning? there's no mechanics to explore that describes what it took to break it besides, love betrayed mental conditioning. as long the theme of the power of free will across all possibilities of humanity shown through, he dgaf.
      ultimate immersion break, who the fuck are marty and daniel? and not that garbage his son made up.

    • @themidcentrist
      @themidcentrist 2 месяца назад

      @@dffndjdjd Interesting response. The Baron had Paul and Jessica taken to open desert to die because he would technically be telling the truth if under Bene Gesserit questioning if he said that he didn't kill them. The same logic can apply to Dr Yueh, and this is exactly the type of "loophole" that the baron would exploit being the master manipulator that he is. Thanks!

      The biggest things you need to know about the Dune world is that control of Arrakis is essential for the Imperium to function due to spice being necessary for interstellar travel. So if you hear spice mentioned, keep in mind that control of the spice flow is one of the driving forces behind most events in the Dune universe. The other major one is the machinations of the Bene Gesserit.

    one of the things i am somewhat unclear about is when certain factions come about. As i understood things, the Spacing Guild fills the void for space travel through folding space because space travel without thinking machines has been knocked back to ships taking generations to travel to different worlds. So at this point in the timeline the Zensunni Wanderers haven't yet made it to Arrakis and Spice wasn't yet the vital resource it becomes. But then again this is Brian Herbert's book and he changes a lot from Frank Herbert's books.

    • @CantankerousDave
      @CantankerousDave 2 месяца назад

      They can still travel by folding space, it's just that - what - 1 or 2 out of 10 ships are never seen again? Guild Navigators shouldn't be a thing yet, because spice had only recently been discovered (and no Fremen, only the recently arrived Zensunni Wanderers) but here's everybody hopping from system to system like it's nothing. The show acts like all the major players 10,000 years in the future suddenly popped into existence fully formed after the jihad. The Mentats, the Spacing Guild, and the Sisterhood should basically only be names at this point, with them just experimenting with training and taking their first baby steps.

  • @wordsworthstone
    @wordsworthstone 2 месяца назад +1

    Unlocking the genetic memories in her DNA signifies she already nullified the poison in her system. The fear is Dorotea may have seized the ego or even worse, sabotaged the Harkonnen sisters plans for the BG by attempting to kill Lila. We await and speculate if she wakes in the following episode. There's no doubt in my opinion, similar to the rebirth/awakening of Paul Atreides with Chani's tear, I think she definitely will considering Lila is crafted to be a messianic figure, an Atreides heir to the matriarch of the BG sisterhood.
    Here's my beef. This means, Vorian Atreides' granddaughter Raquella prophesied the downfall of the order she created by a member of her bloodline later in the timeline, assumed to be Leto II, which he essentially does, in HIS overall plan to protect humanity against Arafel, which Raquella also warns about? WTF are you doing Brian Herbert? First, you diminish the warnings of the original series, be fearful charismatic leaders prophecy and messianic figures, by main charactering the Atreides throughout the universe's timeline, and now this? You may say he does not have such influence in the show but it's his foundation in the prequels that's led to here.

    18:45 I am surprised you came to that conclusion. Valya, the Mother Superior, has apparently completely betrayed the supposed purpose and code of the Sisterhood. They are not there for humanity but for themselves. For every truth they tell, there is at least one other lie.
    Desmond, so far, is providing the Imperium with full justice and truth, freeing it from the complete manipulation of the Sisterhood. I don't understand how one find it difficult to pick a side; I find it extremely easy.
    The Bene Gesserit will probably prevail, but they are in no way, shape, or form the good side, in my opinion. They are nothing more than a corrupt, self-serving organization. I don't know if the show will manage to make me like them, but so far, it seems impossible.
    The true Bene Gesserit is represented by Dorotea. Valya Harkonnen has twisted the Sisterhood into a tool for her own ambition. Her allegiance to House Harkonnen, shown in the opening scene, demonstrates that. Valya betrays the Sisterhood’s purpose, she is a danger to humanity and everything the Bene Gesserit are meant to stand for. So far they are the bad side of history and not the team to pick. Not under Valya.

Also, maybe all the narcotics they were taking should have been Spice, so that way we as the audience can actually start to comprehend its uses, abuses, and why it controls the galactic economy for 11,000 years. But nah, let's just get some generic club music and a generic rebellion being assisted by an Atredies- a man whose family just became a Great House and is personally indebted to the early ascendancy of House Corrino, which makes the Emperor's betrayal in Dune painful while also predictable. This show just mucks it up.

    I really think that he is being controlled or was at least given the gift by Leto II who could operate outside of linear time. This has to be some part of his greater plan to get humanity started on the path that leads to his birth and then also to The Golden Path that he leads humanity down through a series of very strategic and 4-D chess style moves. Really hating the mystery box element of this show. They got me for one more episode and I’m out. This feels like a huge departure from Denis world. I understand it’s 10,000 years from the films, but HBO is missing the mark from an art direction standpoint, tone, and general vibe.

    This story having taken place 10 THOUSAND years before the events of DUNE, humanity is already mining spice on Arakis? Already fighting the fremmen?, The Bene Gesserit is already in ALL the major houses in the galaxy after only 130 years? Valya has personally developed THE VOICE as "something I've been working on" lol? I'm sure this is all in service of how Herbert wrote the book (*edit: this just in, the writer has just learned that DUNE PROPHECY isn't actually based on a Frank Herbert book, witch makes a ton more sense as to why it's so disjointed narrative) , but I was stuck by how little the DUNE universe seems to have changed in 10 Millennia. Just seems like "hey folks you know all the stuff you loved about the DUNE movies, well, here's a TV show that's not meant to step on that cash cow's narrative, but it's the same, just you know 10 thousand years before, really ...... wacka wacka wacka!" The "world" looks exactly the same as the DUNE timeline which is supposedly 10 THOUSAND years later. This second episode got muddled and uninteresting for me, and it's all becoming a bit of blah.

    Hey Pete, a little free unsolicited advice, read the books and you’ll have a much better understanding of what’s going on. The same advice goes to the rabid Frank Herbert purists because you’re not getting anymore books from Frank and you definitely don’t know what he would’ve written despite how much you think you know him and hate his son Brian.

    The show made a huge mistake. They depicted the genetic memory wrong. It's not a way to talk to ghosts, you are supposed to get the memory of your ancestors when they conceiver you. Or in the case of your mother you get the memory up to the point of when you left the womb. The girl is not supposed to know how her mother died, or what her grand mother discovered years after her mother is born.

    • @SameerAli-qw1hn
      @SameerAli-qw1hn 2 месяца назад +6

      I dont think so.
      Lila’s mother was not present in her memories. Doratea is her grandmother.
      Doratea simply says “They lied to her so that she would undergo the agony”. Essentially Lila is confirming her own suspisions in her subconsious.
      The revalation that Valya killed her Grandmother overwhelmed her and likely caused her coma.
      Tula lied to Lila about her possibility of talking to her mother in memories.
      Never trust any “Reverend Mothers”. They are master manipulators. Tula is well versed in lying. She manipulated Lila. Dont fall for her motherly attitude. The very fact that Lila is Raquella’s decesdant is why Tula was tasked to be her mother figure.

    • @TentaclePentacle
      @TentaclePentacle 2 месяца назад

      @@SameerAli-qw1hn There is no way the genetic memory of doratea knows of her final death. That's the mistake this show made. Also There is no way Lila can access Raquella's memory of the prophecy because Qaquella doesn't know about the prophecy when she gave birth to Doratea. Those are all huge mistakes and a fundamental misunderstanding of genetic memory from the show runner.
