Yup. A practical and sound financial decision for day-to-day life. Just a pity that some people are incapable of accepting your choices and being respectful. We bought an ID.3 standard range before the Born was available. 200 miles range in winter works just fine for our needs and like you say, less than 3 pence a mile in fuel is a no brainer.
I’m a self confessed petrol head and switched to an EV6 gt-line S this year and it is great. I can charge at home (PodPoint) and haven’t yet needed a public charger. It’s fast (quicker than my previous car - Macan S), fun, loads of tech, is cheap to charge and works for me and my driving scenario’s these days. It won’t be for everyone, but at a real-world 270-280 miles (300m advertised) range, it works.
As a petrol head who converted 2 years ago to an EV, I salute you. I went from an BMW M3 Comp to a Tesla Model 3 performance and I've never looked back. So much cheaper and easier to maintain and run, faster, more comfortable... just no downsides! Welcome to the club!
Or charge it anywhere else apart from home cause its costs the same as an ICE car but you get less than half the miles… then when we have power outages all over UK in the near future because of our government and Miliband be sure you have fully charged it at home… or you are going nowhere… but enjoy the EV… am sure you will for the first 4 months anyways… good luck!

Very sound logic, if you can dodge the public charging network and mainly charge at home, you should make some significant savings and have a more practical car too. Still not convinced about the environmental credentials though but it should really help to improve air quality in cities.

Most of the lease will be written off as a company expense and insurance is no different from a normal car. Jump on compare the market and get a quote yourself. As hers includes use for her business it's not relevant either. And also can probably be written off as an expense.
I was starting to put mine on charge when I went to bed. I've started plugging in when I get home now. It's only a few hours it's really know big deal sharing. Also the supply to the house probably wouldn't be sufficient.
Whilst I know location, miles etc. all has an effect. Car insurance actually came out cheaper than my MINI GP3 (the cheapest car insurance I have ever had too) with an increase on miles as well.
@DrivingBex mine is £249 fully comp for the year on my enyaq I'm 44 years old. It's cheaper than a mondeo with much less performance. I think the lease is £1000 a month and includes everything tyres windscreen servicing breakdown etc. I only pay £78 towards it. I bet a lot is a Tax write off. And obviously the whole thing is just a business expense anyway.
Once you have used rapid charger a couple of times, you might think a few thousand for that extra battery is not worth it. 100 miles extra range comes in about 20 minutes. I think just trying to get the range to home for a few journeys a month is not always worth it.
After having the MG4 which has a similar range to the smaller battery, the journey's we do and how regular we do them makes much more sense for us as a household to have a longer range version available. Trust us when we say charging on the M6 at 1am twice a week in the middle of winter is not fun haha.
Also if you take staying between 20% - 80% with the battery and how around 50 miles range is maybe lost when it's really cold. The bigger battery almost feels like the smaller battery version at that point.
Hi Bex sounds like a no brainer to me. I am currently looking at swapping my car. Does a Labrador fit into the boot of a Born? Yours sounds well spaced which version did you go for?
Our Lab is definitely above average size haha. But he has always travelled in the back seats. The boot is a good size, so I would image they would be okay :) I also went for the 77kwh battery V3 version as it was the best value for money on the current lease deals.
Can someone explain to me what happens when hydrogen cars take off which they say charge in 5 minutes,at the moment i charge my electric car at home takes about 6 hours for 50% so will my electric car be worthless?
As hydrogen cars will not 'take off' there is nothing to explain. The logistics of H2 are much too difficult. It would be at least twice the price of running a petrol car. Servicing costs would be horrendous. It might just work for trucks and bus use but even that is doubtful as battery tech improved almost daily. EVs these days are much better than the early models, and some 'town cars' are now around for £15k so that with overnight home charging and better battery tech a lot of the old fears will soon be gone.
All types of cars depreciate the moment you drive it out of the showroom, about 20%! Don’t believe juts buy any car today and then sell it straight away. Why? In other words some vehicles depreciate faster because it’s been thrashed, neglected, abused etc. Well maintained vehicles do not depreciate as quickly as a neglected vehicle, but all vehicles depreciate about 20% by just leaving a showroom, in general. So long you can accept that fact, go buy a new car and enjoy it. Have fun! I also just bought a brand new Tesla and love it!
Yes to start with there are a whole lot of taxes which apply to new cars like VAT, delivery, numberplates etc.etc. That is before you consider the new vs second hand arguments. In most cases (though not all) if you buy with PCP or lease deals the depreciation is included in the monthly fee which includes inflated list price. If you worry about depreciation buy second hand. This is why I opted for a lease, especially with the tax benefits of being self employed and using my car for business. The weather does affect the range, however, with the model I have chosen, even with the reduction, I still won't need to charge on the road. And lastly with the mechanics, I am very lucky with work with a fantastic garage, Eden Tyres, who have trained mechanics I trust.
But far less likely to catch fire than ice cars. The range doesn't drop much really in cold weather. If you buy second hand depreciation is in your favour, plus all cars have been hit by this recently...
@@Xavi-1968 So , I take it you’re just glossing over the child labour ? Okay, to produce enough copper to change all cars to electric and provide the necessary infrastructure, the world will have to mine as much copper in the next 2 years as has ever been mined up to this point. An EV requires so many resources that it doesn’t ‘break even ‘ until it’s approximately 9 years old. My source for this… VOLVO , unless of course you don’t think they’re qualified to comment.

Give it 12 months she will be bored and getting something new. Miss the old Becky with Lotus and Porsche cars have been getting worse. All the running costs are base on never using public charging which is not realistic
Thing is - an EV using public chargers will pay almost exactly the same price per mile as a petrol driver pays all time. But just for that one small portion of their annual use. A petrol car pays the same high price per mile as a public EV charger all the time. A petrol driver can't fill up at home as they sleep and for 1/10th of the price of petrol. So your criticism about not being realistic is deeply flawed.
Sold out 😱 a real petrol head would never have a milk float . On Tuesday night I went on a 370 mile drive in my 2.4 just for the shear hell of it, and enjoyed every second driving some fantastic roads in northern England . Petrol head .
I'd rather take any performance car to the track to push it to its limits. But that's my preference. Doesn't make me any less of a petrolhead. Look at Carlos Sainz...F1 driver but drove around in a standard VW Golf for a long time🤷🏼♀️

Nice car, the future is hydro as the world is not equipped for everyone to have a EV, the amount of copper on a EV is 3x the amount you need for a petrol/Diesel and there in not enough copper mines today to fulfil the demand. It takes years to develop a copper mine so it's just not feasible for a world full of EV.
@kcebliks it's why EV will never be the future. Let's be honest the car and car engine has done no harm at all to to the planet, the fuel has but the car and engine haven't. It be a lot easier to convert it to hydro less copper needed and it's a lot cleaner than EV. EV cause so much damage to make

@@cuillinguy A second hand EV are you kidding
@Tel-f7w it was what I did. Absolute bargain. Am enjoying 1/10th of my previous running costs. 😆
@@cuillinguy Do you know why there so cheap ?
Motorway @ 70mph you might get 200 miles in winter, 260 in warmer weather.
I have seen 300 miles already sitting 70mph on the motorway for 80% of the journey :)
Thank you Bex for starting the journey towards decarbonizing the planet. This is a very important issue.
And child slave labour in third world countries is not an issue ? Oh and if you think EVs are less polluting you’re very much mistaken.
@ no, I’m not mistaken. You have to seriously prove your claims.
@@karlhulme8014 For cobalt in NMC batteries? How about get one with LFP batteries? No cobalt in those.
Also more and more electricity from the grid is from renewable sources, so charging from the grid gets cleaner all the time.
The last coal fired power station in the UK just closed permanently.
Making EVs is polluting the planet much more than making a normal ICE car
I had a GP3 didn’t rate it
I get the saving but which one sounds better looks better and is more fun sorry the mini wins, sorry love the channel
Of course, I LOVED the MINI and do miss it. But it was built for the track, not to be sat at 70mph on the motorway 95% of the time :(
🤔⚡️😒⛽️😃the reason is not to help climate change then? 😂😂😂
The biggest switch for me was the financial side with home charging😊
@ I know, no one changers over for climate reasons
Now you and your partner can fight over who has the charger😂
Bloody good point that. Nobody ever mentions it.
@@petew1810 You don't have to fill your car with petrol every night, do you? The same is true for EVs charging too.
Only one car gets used for the long journey per day (which we tend to drive together), the rest are shorter local drives which isn't a worry. All things we have thought through :)
EV's is a big scam.
Give it 12 months she will be bored and getting something new. Miss the old Becky with Lotus and Porsche cars have been getting worse. All the running costs are base on never using public charging which is not realistic
Well it's a 2 year lease so try 24 months🤐 but in all seriousness, I thankfully will be relying on home charging 99% of the time.
Of course u did…
I'd rather take any performance car to the track to push it to its limits. But that's my preference. Doesn't make me any less of a petrolhead. Look at Carlos Sainz...F1 driver but drove around in a standard VW Golf for a long time🤷🏼♀️
@@craighuddy5351 sarcastic tw*t . Left Bury 6:30 pm , A59 to A1 , to Scotch Corner , A66 to Penrith , through Alston to Hexham ( what a road ! ) , from Heddon the Military road to Greenhead , up to Longtown , and home down the M6 , returned 2:30 am. No fill up necessary.

Oh no, your driving a fast milk float :-( just lacks soul 😢
Well this is where I part ways with this channel… a car enthusiast purchasing an electric car. Goodbye
An electric car is a car. A car enthusiast likes cars no matter what propels it.
@@MotorMender47 Agreed.
Sad buggers!
Yea but there's enough copper in one downhole oil pump for at least 10 ev's never mind the 5,000+ft cable to feed it.
@kcebliks it's why EV will never be the future.
Let's be honest the car and car engine has done no harm at all to to the planet, the fuel has but the car and engine haven't. It be a lot easier to convert it to hydro less copper needed and it's a lot cleaner than EV.
EV cause so much damage to make
Just as well the fields are full of unwanted EV… you need sales not production! And since all manufacturers are on there knees with the loss of these cars there wont be a need for them at all…
