- Emily Silva, 83, of Woodson, passed away in Abilene on Sunday, March 19, 2023. Her funeral service at the First Baptist Church in Woodson will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023. Due to the threat of severe storms on Thursday, her family will welcome friends for a visitation at the funeral home from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
Emilia “Emily” Serbantez was born on August 8, 1939, in Slaton, Texas. She is the daughter of Liandro Serbantez. Emily and Luis Silva were married on September 30, 1972, in Throckmorton, Texas.
Emily moved her family to Woodson in 1964, where she raised her children and built her life. She received her GED in the Woodson Library, an accomplishment she was very proud of. Emily had a great love for her family, friends, community, and school. She helped with the PTA and Booster Club. She gathered Bingo gifts and helped the school in any way she could. If you knew Emily, when homecoming came around, she would surely hit anyone and everyone for chili money. Emily was also involved with Secret Pal and, at one time, was part of the Red Hat Society.
Emily was preceded in death by her father, Liandro Serbantez; husband, Luis Silva; sister, Leta Goss; and son, Ruben Cortez.
She is survived by her three daughters, Linda Lee and husband Buster, Barbara Herring and husband Butch, and Emmy Munoz and husband Mario; son, Alex Cortez; brother, Ernie Cantu; grandchildren, Brandon Cortez and wife Amy, D’Jean Thompson and husband Truitt, Christopher Porter, Alex Dean and wife Shaylynn Cortez, Stacy Cortez, Miranda Cortez, Victoria Cortez, Emmari Munoz, Jace Munoz, Arie Ana Cortez, Alexa Herring, and Jaxon Herring; along with multiple great-grandchildren.
