    Thinking of getting this, thanks. I’m excited about the pc sync cable since most of my film cameras don’t have a hot shoe, and old vintage flashes with pc sync cables would fry a modern camera. I agree that it’s nice to only have to pack one flash! I have another small universal flash but it has a wireless foot you have to charge (which I always forget) and no iso or aperture info on it. I like that this has the old school wheel to tell you aperture based on distance.

    • @MattLovesCameras
      @MattLovesCameras  2 года назад

      Thanks Jeff! It's a lot of fun. In the heat of the moment I ended up guessing the flash and the aperture, usually got it right after a couple of shots 😅

    one point, I think the S1 & S2 are different sync options, the S1 is Optical slave mode, the S2 is the mode for PC Sync cable, not sure if it disconnects the pin on the hot shoe, ie makes it 'cold' to stop shorting out on older Leaf shutter cameras. ( this is from watching Elinchrom and Broncolor flash battery pack videos, this is how THEY do it, and explain these settings).

    • @MattLovesCameras
      @MattLovesCameras  Год назад

      Hello! According to the manual, they're both optical slave modes (see below). Thanks for watching 😊
      Optical Control Mode
      Sl optical control
      The S1 optical control function is available in M manual flash mode. Push the OFF/Sl /S2 button to Sl, the flash can function as an optical Sl secondary flash. With this function, the flash will fire synchronously when the main flash fires, the same effect as that by using of radio triggers. This helps create multiple lighting effects.
      S2 optical control
      The S2 optical control function is available in M manual flash mode. Push the OFF/S1/S2 button to S2, the flash can also function as an optical S2 secondary flash to be suitable for TTL flash. This is useful when cameras have pre-flash function. With this function, the flash will ignore a single "preflash" from the main flash and will only fire in response to the second, actual flash from the main unit
      Note: S1/S2 optical control is only available in M manual flash mode.

    Maybe a stupid question, but if there is no hot shoe connected how does the flash know to fire right as the shutter is released? It doesn’t look like the cynic cable needs to be connected while on camera, but I’m confused how the camera and flash communicate the shutter fire!

    • @MattLovesCameras
      @MattLovesCameras  2 года назад +1

      Hmm great question, I will try to answer it as best I can. When you use a manual flash you set your shutter speed to the sync speed, which can be 1/60 second, 1/100 second, or other speeds. For example, on my Contax G1, it's 1/100 second. When you press the shutter, a signal is sent via the sync port along the cable to fire the flash. The shutter speed is slow enough to capture the scene when it's been lit up by the flash. Does that help? 😊

    I just got mine. I agree wholeheartedly with all your observations, especially the text size in the manual!

    But does it also work with older film cameras? My Godox 350 does not flash when I use a hotshoe and pc cable on a Rolleiflex, Voightländer or Zeiss. It is no use contacting Godox, because they don’t understand the question. I believe it has to do with the differences in voltage for the flash to ignite. Or whatever. Does anyone know more?

    Hey! Great little vid about the Junior Lux. I saw that they were going to release this flash a while back as well as the senior version. And thought the idea of a flash working on both my film cameras and digital cameras with a retro look no less was great. Did not see that much as far as reviews or tutorials go though and wanted to see some test shots from using it ( kind strange they did not show any in their commercial and it made me and many others i saw wonder why and get a bit "suspicious " from that fact.).
    But i heard you and Lucy speak about it on a podcast, might have been your joint one and that you liked it and had made a video about it. So was happy to finally see this out hehe. I have not used mine a lot yet, and not at all on my film cameras. But tried it on both my Fuji X-T1 and my M240 and find it looked best on my M240 out of those two.
    Looking forward to try it out on my film cameras ( i did try it on my spotmatic Sp, but for some reason it doesn't fire either with cable or else. But going to try it on a Nikon body later on.
    Cheers! /Martin The Swede.

    Hi, thanks for the review. I picked up a Junior the other day to use with my X-T4. I’m confused about the Fuji settings I should be using with Auto mode. My efforts so far all seem to be overexposed because the camera doesn’t know there’s a flash as well. I’m thinking: lowest ISO on the dial is 160, so I set it to that, shutter to 1/60, and leave the aperture to its own devices? Or full manual mode?

    • @MattLovesCameras
      @MattLovesCameras  8 месяцев назад

      Hi! It’s a bit of trial and error when you first use it. If the shots are all overexposed, try a faster shutter speed or stop down the aperture to f8 or f11 and see what it looks like and readjust 😊
