"One Tin Soldier" w/Lyrics- The Original Caste

- A cautionary/symbolic tale about coveting what we think are our neighbors riches only to find out it's something quite different.
Originally released in late 1969 by "The Original Caste" and re-recorded by Coven and used in the movie 'Billie Jack" in 1971.
I know I'm not the only one who ends up with tears streaming everytime I listen this song ....ever since I was a little kid in the sixties .....even moreso nowadays❤️
Likewise...I cry a lot these days for our atrocities
🕊️🙏
Every. Single. Time. As a vocalist, this is one song I’ve always wanted to record, with a more contemporary sound. Sadly, it applies now more than ever. I think it would land solidly.
No, you are not alone!
There is so much hatred today. It's a shame this song would be considered "woke" today.
2020, and this song never grows old on this planet. Sadly it always applies.
2021 and almost 2022 and this song remains true to my heart
There is a lesson to be learned hear. Never do as the main chorus says. Gread will lead to mankind's down fall.
@@wayneheidlebaugh9915 And further, if we do not chose to peek at the forests, around the tree between our eyes, a higher purpose in knowledge will never be reached.
I awoke this morning thinking of the poorest migrants coming to the gates of a great “Kingdom” seeking opportunity and hope. And the thought of judgment came immediately after, and then for the first time in many years, this song occurred to me.

Was wondering who else got sent here
@@randomgamer3757 I was also sent here from there, and it is scarily appropriate to that chapter
A decent match.
Heh
I was a teen when this song was on the radio. I could not make out all the words and could only understand a few phrases. Today I read the lyrics without the music. What a powerful song! Heard it so long ago but never understood what it was about. This should be heard by every single person on the planet, until we ALL understand!
I agree 👍.
Chistmas morning me too.
I was a pre-teen and heard it on my little transistor radio. We didn’t know a lot of lyrics from that time unless you bought an album that printer them on the back or inside. It was the most wonderful time for music - you heard everything on the radio from one hit wonders to great groups! Two decades later, either radio or record producers only wanted a homogenized type of music so it got really boring. I’m so sick of solo artists and blasé music!
I was never comfortable with this song even as a child and research reveals a possible reason why it was unsettling. It was covered by different bands but coven was one of them coven actually practiced black magic and loved the line that said go ahead and hate your neighbour go ahead and cheat a friend do it in the name of heaven it will be justified in the end. They liked to demonstrate the hypocrisy of Christian’s. That line always made me uncomfortable
Those who most need to hear it would scoff at it and call it "woke."
This song has touched my soul sooo deeply since the 70's,bless you.
Awesome Recording! Awesome Song! Common Decency, Common Sense, Compassion, Empathy, Ethics, Forgiveness, Honesty, Honor, Intelligence, Kindness, Morals, Love, Peace, Respect, Self-Respect and Sharing is all it takes!
2023, I am 60s and actually know the lyrics for the first time. Thank you.
And great job with the artwork. . . well done.😎
All my life this has been my favorite song and that will never ever change. I wish people could just wake up and understand WTH is going on here before it is far too late!
All countries should listen to this song
👍
Great song an a big amen to writers of this song an it sung so great.. DON'T YOU WISH ALL THE WORLD LEADERS HAD TO LISTEN TO THIS SONG EVERY MORNING.. THIS SONG CARRIES THE TRUTH AN IT SEEMS TO ME THE WORLD NEEDS IT MORE THEN EVER..
Unfortunately this song would be meaningless to those who do not have a soul or whose life is ran by greed they are unable incapable of sympathizing
@@TheCherylish1 As much as I hate to say this, Very Good Point. Your absolutely right. Sadly, a heart is one thing lots of people were born without.
XOXOXO XOXOXO XOXOXO
More powerful now than ever. Hope this reaches the hearts today as it did in the 60s.
I heard this song as a child. Feeling sad for our nation and those grieving in El Paso and other laces in yhe world due to hate. Only with love can things change
This still brings tears. Wonderful message then and now, yes it is fitting!
I still remember this song was taught in school when I first heard it. Now 40 years later I'm an old man now and it brought back so many memories when I was young. Good song! How you can always justify it in the end.!!!
I remember learning this song when I was about 8, from my older sister, in the early 70s. She had learned it in her music class at school and she sang it for me and my two younger sisters. Soon all four of us were singing it all over the house, probably driving our parents up the wall.😂 We thought that the word "bloody" at the end was very daring, as it still counted as a "swear word" then. But I think the beautiful simplicity of the song's message came though. I still the remember all the lyrics to this day.
This song made me stop and think about war and peace every time I heard it as a young child. I'm now singing it to my son. :)
My mom sang this song to me any night I couldn't sleep.
My mother used to sing me this every night. It helped form my opinions of war.
a song to sing to today's American exstremists on all sides Ben Franklin said if we don't stand together we will fail☯️☮️ separately 🙏pass it on
This song made a similar impression on me when I first heard it in my youth. Now, as an adult, I’ve been singing this to my son ever since he was born. Happy to see I have company.
Who was the tin soldier who rode away
"PEACE ON EARTH WAS ALL IT SAID". I loose it every time they get to that part. Crystal Blue Persuasion is another one if you ever listen to the words can get to me equally. Share the Land, He Aint Heavy He's My Brother. So many songs out of that time period. Tells you the heart of the youth back then. I pray for revival of the hearts of men today. Its time we gat back to our first love. Weve ventured too far away. ❤🙏
Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now, right now.
This is WONDERFUL!@✝️♥️
Sadly this so still rings true today 2023.😢
hence why this song will never die.
It will always be true.
I wonder what good influence it might be to have| songs like this on the air waves to sink into our minds?
Sadley we are more and more separated by having the ability to literally and figuratively tune into only what things are appealing to each of us as individuals, not as a society.
I practice looking up the information THAT I NEED and ignore advertising unless I need something.
We must not let distractions grab our attention.

i understand. and agree ...
but I was referring to shared experiences.
As a culture we used to all have access to the same news, tv sitcoms, variety shows, movies etc...
and a limited selection of a dozen or so tv channels..
and a limited number of hours of availability. I remember nearly all channels were off the air by 11pm or Midnight.
So we aLL were having the same exposure to what was being seen.
Now with algorithms steering each of us to find to consume only things we individually gravitate towards .. we become fragmented, isolated, unaware of what others are seeing and saying.
We lose touch with what's real and what's Fake News.
this is why minorities of lunacy concepts thiNk they are being reasonable. they only are surrounded by like minded lunacy.
Sadly this phenomenon has polarized extremely, and leaked out into our entertainment and politics in very negative and divisive ways.
what's the old phrase?
"divide and conquer'?
also I do believe God.
and we know His adversary, satan, is a deceiver who enjoys causing chaos, and who comes to "steal, kill and destroy"
that's what I was referring to
the isolation and polarization that modern technology is facilitating.
Actually, millions of us 🇺🇸 citizens having this very conversation about how we are interpreters of our community members using our collective resources and experience to provide protection and fiduciary common sense in our faith in our constitution and democratic Republic duties where ever our life station in the moment finds us.
As a simple American citizen, My faith came from the words I read 📚the very first time was a security I was proud to be a part of our constitution. Although leaders betrayed us we know that the duties are to follow the rules already in place instead of excusing, each for a friend. NO MORE EXCUSING ACCOUNTABILITY!
I just like this. Native American tribes held peace for 1,000 years.
My grandma used to sing this song to me when I was little every night before bed and now I sing it to my son to calm him down
Me too, on both counts
I was singing it to my cats and to myself to calm and comfort us. I couldn't remember all the words, so I looked it up on RUclips. I haven't sung this song in over 20 years.
And so you teach morality and so you help to ensure his soul! God bless you and your family!
My gma used to sing this to me when i little and to this day every time i lay down to sleep i think of her singing this song to me.
This was a song from my mom’s favorite movie Billy Jack. She sang it to me. And I sang it every night to my little brother and sister. They still remember me singing this song to them religiously every night. My brother even said it’s his favorite childhood memory in life. 💝
very nice work with the art, adds a lot to the song and echoes what I imagined pretty well as a kid listening to this
Good music is timeless. And this song is one such example.
Brilliant Lyrics and Melody! Brilliant Recording! Brilliant Song! Brilliant Video! The Original and Best Recording of this classic Song! I was born in the late fall of 1978.

So very true! I’ve loved that song since I was in the 8 th grade-- to find that song was so explosive and so deep with meaning. Never gets old!!!
I used to sing this song to myself when I was scared. It always brought me hope. It's a sad song but we are getting to honor it in remembering the memories. ❤️🕊️
This is the only version I've heard on here that has decent audio. Well done.
Yeah, I just came here from a version that was obviously copied with a potato. Still, it seems it could be better......
"with our brothers we will share all the secrets of our mountain all the riches buried there." Seems like a great deal to me!
I was born in the late fall of 1978. This recording and song have a very common sense, very conscientious, very decent, very humane very intelligent, very important and very vital message for all people on earth!
Well done video. I was 6 or 7 when this tune came out. Remember it well.
Excellent Recording! Excellent Song!
I remember my mother took me to see Billy Jack in the theater when I was very young and at the end I cried so hard the first time I recall crying about anything, To this day this song brings tears to my eyes, when I die THIS will be my end song.😢 TO ALL MY FRIENDS.DAVE CASILLAS. NARDCORE!!!

I cry every time I listen, I love this song, I love singing this song, I feel this song.....been around almost as long as me♥️
When I first heard this song, I was 11 years old. Now, over 40 years later, it still haunts me with its lyrics.
I sang this song at Camp Beartrap when I was in junior high. I love it.
Thank you for the original Original Caste version, in stereo, to boot! 1969 rules!
Billy Jack was one of the best movies ive ever seen.

This predates Billy Jack by 4 years.
@@brysonmacdougal7898 No kidding, Captain Obvious.
I remember this song well. Good choice for the times! 💕
So many years... decades, centuries.... after Christ preached and commanded us to love each other.... people still choose to ignore Him.
And they do justify their violence and hate, and yes even commit it in HIS name! In spite of knowing He never led anyone by force.
I actually happen to be a shepherd, a modest one with a small flock. And every time i read the bible and come across references of sheep and comparisons to mankind, i understand more and more the similarities. It makes perfect sense.
It has nothing to do with their intelligence. Sheep aren't dumb or weak. They have just enough intelligence to eat, care for their young and get into trouble.
You also don't DRIVE sheep, it's easier if you lead them.
And 100% absolutely, if i call my sheep they will come running to me, even the wildest and most rebellious in my flock.
One day YOUR master will call. And even you will come running.
AMEN, it's happening right now the Democrats at war with the Republicans. And they won't stop until they reach their goal Biden or Trump. And by selling their souls to almost hurt one another yes, a Toy Soldier rides away and that's all we want is peace on Earth. No one wins.
May you forget that God is the almighty not Biden or Trump
Magnificent song when I was little and is still just as important and Magnificent 💕🙏💕
On 9/11 I couldn't get this song out of my head. I always loved it
I love this song!!During camp fires when we are all together to close the day.
Billy Jack was the first time I heard this song. And one reason I’d watch this movie over and over. Another reason? Well, seeing Billy toss those thugs around, lol
Wish our schools would still play this song.
I've loved this song every since the first time I heard it in the early 70's wish more people would get the message from it 😞😢
Perfect anthem for a "time such as this". Really appropriate.
It is too bad more songs like this are not played for the youth today.
This song had a profound impact on me in my developing teen years.
So fitting to what is going on in the world.

oh i so so love this and it so reminds me of what is happening now.
A mournful, tearful, message
One of my favorites, still has great meaning especially now. Why can't we all just get along.

Peace to America and the World!!!💜🧡💚💛💙❤🌈🕊
LOL This song was first recorded by "The Original Caste' which is actually a Canadian group. Canada has always had a better grasp of the concept of ''Peace and Harmony' than America does.
@@bertvanular4007 Sometimes!
Such a vital message that the rewards are sometimes not worth the sacrifice that any stand that is forced as a last resort should be of the honor of the whole.... and the belief in the heart to protect the family and the neighbor...
Thank You, Historicus Joe, to be remembered about this song to once a time, people tried to make things better.
thank you, saw the movie billy jack when i was young. and well it stuck. this song beautiful.
Heroes are made of this song.
Always loved this song heard it in 70s. Watching billy jack as a young boy. That movie really shocked me. As a mid west kid. This song still hits home. As i see wars starting up out of no where. Maybe they should listen to this song.
I'm here because of my assignment but I never expected that this song had a wonderful message, I really like it.
I truly believe that people are attracted to virtue but somehow it has been completely ignored by many. When greed aggression hatred and thinking about yourself all the time takes over the urge for virtue which is normal disappears. Who remembers what it was like in the late 50s early 60s when neighbors watched out for other peoples children and we protected each other we help each other. If someone in the neighborhood moved in my mother and grandmother would bring them casseroles and let them use their phone until they got one. People were loved people express their love and they welcomed people into the neighborhood. It’s ironic that I have a neighbor that hates me although I have not done nothing that I know what to do to hurt her. I’ve tried to talk to her but again it’s about that land thing. The only road we can get out of is on her property which is an easement but she believes it is her property. The more she focuses on the that the more she hates and the more she becomes her hatred. It is sad that darkness feels her heart now. She wasn’t like that when we moved here eight years ago. I guess my mom was right when she said what are you focus on is what should become. I have certainly seen that in the reality of what has happened to me. I’m an old woman now and need to move out of here do you think I can get anyone to help me not even my family. The children of my sisters who I helped raise want nothing to do with me. It’s as if when you are sick old or injured people just want to throw you away. What is happened to our country what is happened to family I don’t know but all I know is that I will continue to love continue to pray and continue to hold that people see the truth and love and generosity and mercy are the most important things that we could ever do on this earth
The lion and the lamb, so precious.
Check out the 11th chapter of Isaiah. ...lot of insight there..

You tell some cool campfire ghost stories. I especially like the ghost stories about talking snakes, magical dirt men, magical ribs, magical fruit, food falling from the sky, talking donkeys, Noah's magic zoo boat, ghost sex, zombies, magic hair, magical goblins, giants (Bigfoot), Elvis Presley post-death sightings, 900 year old humans, and a man who lived in a fish. Believers report they watched too many cartoons as kids. You tell the Magic Realm ghost stories so effectively that it gets these noobs scared of the Boogeyman.
I apologize if I said anything offensive. I was thinking about Isaiah and the last part of the One Tin Soilder song ....just the meaning behind it all. I'm not trying to get bitten by a snake, take mescilne or peyote. I was just thinking about the Native Americans and how they have survived against insurmountable odds. I do believe in the 1000 year reign of Jesus Christ . I do believe what Psalms chapter 37 says and Isaiah chapter 11, and chapter 65 and everything Jesus taught. I love that a great number of us know hope . I'm sorry again. I wasn't trying to tell wild stories. Just trying to be a relatable human being.
Actually the Bible never says the lion will lie down with the lamb...it says the wolf will lie down with the lamb.

Bravo! So pertinent and timeless.
I Like and Love the Beautiful Paintings of the Lion and the Lamb and the White Dove of Peace and the Earth! I Like and Love the Recording of The Original Cast!
Its true that every war ever fought, on the offensive was in some form of gaining a material wealth of powerful kind. Greed has been the unholy usurper of Peace the ages long.
I come to the song when I watch Republicans and Democrats debate, false information they are waiting for one result, Trump goes to jail Biden wins vise versa. Yes they will hate you they will cheetah friend they will not be your neighbor they will tell you you suck because you live in Florida. Trump is God to them Biden is God to them. But they forget about the God Almighty because One Tin Soldier is a toy. No one wins
Love Love Love this!! Thanks Sir
This is the best version, IMHO.
Very sad that this song means even more to me now, in 2022, than it did in 1971, in "Billy Jack!" At 66, it breaks my heart...
Goodwill to All! Peace on Earth!
Wonderful job with lyrics and illustrations. Thank you for sharing. Hope you and yours had a great holiday
I listen to this and also think of PP&M singing “where have all the flowers gone”. And “Teach your children well”; perhaps we did not do so well on that. Dr Seuss and “The Butter Battle Book”….. I thought every generation would move toward more equality, respect, hope for environment and future…Youthful idealism, but the work of justice goes on.
Beautiful song.
Sang this song all my life regularly...
This is a song we need to make go viral perhaps if enough share it...an enough listen ...perhaps we will wake up...quit letting a few control us through hate...division...an war for money an oil...😥
Refind our humanity...be humane not simply human.
It's our children that suffer...
It's our son's an husband's lives on the line not theirs...😥
Yes during the last three years we've been through some bad things, but more bad things are coming. I wish people would wake up.

I knew this song since I was a toddler, watching the lyrics and being led by the Earth... shouldn't we actively create a global community based on collaboration and connections...walk with Triune and leave the old ways of competition behind..if WE want peace- if you agree listen to both, allow the tears and then comit to compassion change!
