- Let's kick October off right with some hauntingly incredible vocals by Zora Cock. Blackbriar has been recommended by The Charismatic Voice's patrons for a better part of a year now, and their persistence was absolutely warranted. Blackbriar is eerily great, and this ear candy truly sets the tone for this Halloween season of videos!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Blackbriar for the first time, performing "The Séance”.

Nobody below mentioned "I'd rather burn"..... one of my fav. Blackbriar songs and the song I discovered them through.
Agreed
My favorite Blackbriar song! Blessed be! ❤
I discovered them through ‘fractured fairytale’ and I would def recommend that one
I agree, I also love listening to "I'd rather burn"
Other Blackbriar songs to check out: Snow White and Rose Red, Deadly Diminuendo, Selkie. All of their songs are fantastic. ❤
You know the band is incredible when your list of 'three songs you must not miss' has 0 in common with my list of four (Until Eternity, Arms of the Ocean, I'd Rather Burn, Beautiful Delirium)
@@sirgogUntil Eternity is my absolute favorite! I was going to list more but decided to go with three.
@angieg @ sirgog ... Don't forget 'Preserved Roses', 'Weakness and Lust' and 'Mortal Remains' !!!
2 out of 3.. Selkie, Until eternity and Deadly diminuendo here
I'm a huge fan of Lilith Be Gone
Zora is such a character, it has been a great journey to hear how the band moved from heavier sound to utilize her in full potential, without disregarding their past and still drawing attention of both metalheads and other music enthusiastics.
I've been waiting for a big reaction channel to do a reaction to Blackbriar and requesting and recommending them for years, it's good to finally be heard and it's good to get such a great band some publicity, they might even have a smaller audience than you. Now if only I could see a Scardust and Snow White Blood get that kind of attention too, but Blackbriar are my favourite band so I'm pretty content with this
Scardust!!!! Love them!
One of my favorite right now, I hope I can get to see them live sometime!
maybe not Scardust, but I am throwing the name Hellscore at Elizabeth whenever I get the chance to do so. :-D
@@Andy_from_de same lead vocalist so no arguments from me, Noa is incredible
Oh yes... Scardust... Noa is one of the most versatile and talented singers of today's Metal, for me, almost at the same level of more experienced singers like Floor (which can be verified in the live cover they did of Ghost Love Score). And the whole band is just amazing!
Also if you liked Zora as a ghost you will love her as a mermaid in arms of the ocean, and as a banshee in cry of a banshee, and as a witch in I rather burn and as Jane Eyre in madwoman in the attic. All those songs have acoustic versions, they are precious
I'd rather burn has been my fave Blackbriar song for the longest. It's beautiful
YAAAY finally some blackbriar love! I'm so excited for this one!
Hi Denise!🥳🥳🥳
@@green7apocalyptica hiiiiii!
So pleased you're finally listening to Blackbriar tomorrow. Great publicity for them as a 'not so well known' band in the metal world! They're amazing, especially Zora's vocals. I've been a fan since about 2018, and they've not done a song I don't like yet. Thanks all at TCV
Absolutely love Blackbriar. Apart from being one hell of a singer, Zora is also a great lyricist and storyteller.
Happy you got to Blackbriar! Please react to Blackbriar feat Ulli Perhonen singing 'Snow White and Rose Red'. Ulli is the very versatile vocalist of Snow White Blood, another totally underrated Symphonic Metal band from Germany using fairy tales as their source material for their songs.
Totaly agree
I concur!
Yes!
Love Zora's voice. Been a fan of Blackbriar for years. They're very underrated. In fact, u should check out, "Until Eternity."
Damn, this seriously needs more views, one of most unique voices you'll find in rock/metal today, absolutely beautiful!
Finally Blackbriar is being covered by to your channel. I love how they all have themes to their albums.
Yes! I joined your Patreon with the sole objective of requesting that you react to Zora's singing!
I love her, she's so special. She has such a unique timbre, she can sound like an angel and then... she's playful and always delivers something different, like the spook in this song where she uses that vibrato to portray the sound of a ghost. She reminds me of Kate Bush in several ways, but has her own appeal as a melody writer, she's creative and makes melodies that absolutely match her lyrics.
She's just incredible.
I don't have the words to express my joy!!!! A giant thanks for this choice! Blackbriar / Zora diserve so much RUclips's attention. And I can't wait to hear your analysis... 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🤘🤪
I'm so happy to finally see Blackbriar on here! They have been my favorite band since 2015 and they just get better and better with time.
I had a look at the acoustic live version just a few moments ago, which is even more impressive:)
Yes! I just wanted to comment that. I highly encourage everyone to look that one up, perfection!
@@brendastokvis4380 yeah, simply perfect! I knew blackbriar but I didn't know this song yet, and I didn't know that Zora was that incredibly good.
I am unfamiliar with this artist but the more I heard it, I love the musical construction of this song. I love all the singing stuff going on that you were pointing out but I also really really love the arrangement of it and the chord structure. Definitely weaving some Eastern cadences in there
I love Blackbriar! I'm so glad you get to review them!!!!!
Yay, finally reviewing Blackbriar!
Love your comments, especially the ones on her vocal "ornamentation", which Zora does so impressively.
And I love that you appreciate songs that end without resolution! So many supposed professionals can't stand that, and it always makes me question how professional they really are, if they can't understand and hopefully enjoy musical techniques like that. Or maybe they just have OCD, but in that case, professional music is the wrong career for you. It may seem like most music follows set rules, like resolving the song at the end, but that's deceptive -- a lot of great music breaks a lot of rules, and when you do it right, it can move the music from "normal" to "exceptional".
Finally! I am excited for this as I absolutely love Blackbriar and Zora's whole dark fae vibe.
Wow! I had never heard these guys, and this is so unique and such incredible vocals. Really striking song. I will be checking out more from Blackbriar. Interesting to get that explanation of how she is doing those ornaments.
Ooo happy to see you doing a Blackbriar song, Zora's voice just so mesmerizing listening to it.

OMG YESSSS! ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS! I'm so happy that you're listen to them! I love Zora's voice very much
I'm from not too far away from where they're from, so I've been following them for a while. Ever since the first time I've heard this song the "BOO" just gives me chills.

Yessss, so happy you're finally touching on Blackbriar! I hope you check out some of their other songs, they are all incredible!!!
Excited for this. Zora has such a unique and beautiful set of pipes
So cool!! They're so good, have seen them live several times. Her vocals are so pure and haunting
You're so lucky! I'm in the US and can only hope they can make it here touring at some point🤞🤞🤞
She is good in JtR1888 as well 😀
So cool! I fell in love with Blackbriar's sound as soon as I heard them😍 gothic, symphonic, spooky, dark, sensual, just amazing🥳 one of my favorites alongside Evanescence, Within Temptation, Epica, Apocalyptica, Nightwish 😁 these are all such awsome bands! Do more of them!!!! ♥️♥️♥️😘
I saw them live and they're great - but Zora is just adorable in person! :D
I'd recommend "Lilith be Gone" next... the structure on that song is something else, in all the best ways! XD
Lilith be Gone is definitely my favorite Blackbriar song! Love it!
Lilith Be Gone is my favourite too, and having seen this reaction I think Elizabeth would also appreciate it! In other words: I concur
@@Percy92 yeah, it’s fighting for first place against all of their other songs... they’re all on podium level! XD
Sweet Mother of God this is Awesome!!! Blackbriar are just amazing! And Zora's voice is phenomenal! I know we haven't even seen this reaction, but I hope you've been captivated enough to listen to more of their songs. I can't recommend enough that you listen to the song "Snow White and Rose Red", it's a phenomenal song for any lover of fantasy tales, as well as being a duet with another super talented emerging female metal singer: Ulli Perhonen
Listen k ready to kill
Yes, finally!
Zora´s voice is not for everyone, but this, the music and the presentation overall is awesome and they definitely need more attention!
While the sound is already haunting, her expression so enhances this feeling, you kind of believe her!
I bet with a little more practice her stare could burn the audience to a crisp.
My favourites:
'Until Eternity' (that one made me aware of Blackbriar)
'Weakness and Lust'
'Mortal Remains'
"Hear You Scream'
'I´d Rather Burn'
Not to forget ''Ready To Kill', but more for the different dynamics, less the screams.
This is such good music, its like watching a Steven King or Tim Burton movie... Her voice is so sweet and yet such a haunt and the music as well. Perfect for Halloween alright. I really like this band. Good review, lotsa cool info..

For whatever reason, this video gave me goosebumps especially from the middle and to the end. What an incredible voice she has. I've never heard of this band but I know what I'll be listening to a bit more of. It's what I've come to love about your videos. I am bound to listen to one of a band that I have never heard before and immediatelt want more of. Thank you!
Yes! Blackbriar is so good! I only learned about them a few months ago but I’m in love!

They deserve much more popularity!
Yes!! Been asking for blackbriar a lot :-) very nice band!
And also from the Netherlands 😉
Started listening to Blackbriar because of this video, love Zora's clean vocals. Another more recent song with Zora to check out is "Mortemia What else is there?" so good. Keep showing us new music 🎶 🎶
I'm so happy that you made an analysis of The Seance because Blackbriar deserves all the good things in the world! They are so talented and amazing❤️. I highly recommend you making an analysis of Mortal Remains, Beautiful Delirium and also My Down to Earth Lover from them too!
So happy you are finally discovering Blackbriar! They sure deserve much more love than they got so far!
Blackbriar are my favourtie band, and I'm psyched that you're exploring them. I'm sure you'd love the story behind the uber haunting "Fairy of the Bog" and how Zora brought a voice to the Lady of Yde. "Arms of the Ocean" is another amazing song, as is the very different "Witching Hour". There is a story theme that runs thru "Lilith Begone" "Confess" Weakness and Lust" and "I'd Rather Burn" about a woman accused of witchcraft for demanding equality, facing a rigged trial, mockingly confessing to all the ills of the world and finally cursing her executioners on her way to the stake.
Thru Blackbriar, I found Snow White Blood - a German Symphonic Metal Band. There is a collab between the 2 singers ("Rose Red Snow White") and Uli Perhonen has an amazing voice too. "Drop a Stitch" is a good exploration of her talents.
I have often described Zora's voice as 'Marshmallow-y'; by that I mean it is huge, but soft, sweet but not sugary or saccharine, and like you can just wrap yourself in it.
Ohhh, I love Blackbriar! I'm so glad that they are getting more recognition!
Their music and Zora's voice are soooo unique! ❤
If you really want to be shocked by her voice.....put on some volume and start deadly diminuendo !!! Chills from head to toe !!!! The cause of shipwreck has a bunch of those jewels !!!
We'd love to see more of Reactions of Zora here!! One song won't do her voice justice, you have to hear more , she's beyond incredible!!!! Also please Lacuna Coil!!!
I didn't know them and now I'm thrilled! Definitely gonna check them out. :)
Speaking of Amy Lee, it's such a pity you didn't react to "Speak to Me" or "End of the Dream" (Synthesis Live). 💔

I had never listened to this band before, I'd heard of them though, but then I heard this song a couple weeks and was definitely hooked right away I listened to one album but I need to listen to more. It's so good and her vocals are unique I love that chorus so much.
Yes! Hoping for this band for some time!! Awesome you're taking so much time for Dutch bands, Elizabeth 💜🇳🇱
My personal recommendations for Blackbriar are Selkie - if you're into a storytelling song - and Snow White and Rose Red - featuring another metal power house singer. Hope to see one of these soon 😄
And a perfect fit for the October theme: Popular Monster from Falling In Reverse, addressing a very painful reality for many people with some onpoint and haunting lyrics 💔
YES!!!! I'm so glad you got round to Blackbriar 🥰 I adore them!! Don't limit Zora to a "light voice", she has a growl that comes from the depths of h*ll...it's not my bag but crikey she can do it. I think they create some incredibly complex arrangements, did you hear the piano after the phrase "I am a ghost to you" ping, ping, ping...It reminds me of the big piano intro to Dancing Queen 😁. I was waiting for you to get caught by the "Boo!" 👻
I can't wait for you to explore their other tracks "Deadly Deminuendo" is a MUST and "Selkie" is gorgeous, "Mad Woman in the Attic" continues the Kate Bush feel...Please, please, please give us more Elizabeth ❤️ xx
Looking forward to this! I discovered Blackbriar a year or two ago through YT recommendation when watching other reactions. Zora's vocals, of course, in the context of the instrumentation, but also the lyrics - she goes so hard in attacking patriarchy but through fairytale imagery, which stops it feeling preachy. Gorgeous. I bought all their back catalogue!
Thank you for reacting to the insanely haunting Zora.
Joost Van Den Broek also played keys in After Forever with Floor Jansen and works a lot with Arjen. He plays keys on the Ayreon Universe live show also

About time. Have been a fan for practically ever. Wish a live was used but it's cool to see a react on them anyway. In the arms of the ocean or selkie are some of their stand out songs.
That was a great reaction video! I really like how you analyzed all parts of the song
ZORA IS AMAZZINGG
I love Blackbriar!! I saw them live in August as support act for Epica and they are amazing live! Zora also does the 'boo' live during this song, so cool!
This song is one of my favorites. Lilith be Gone and Until Eternity are also two amazing songs!
Thanks a lot for the reaction... it was great!!!
Hope you will do another of them soon... maybe 'Weakness and Lust' or 'Mortal Remains', because they're great as well. And perhaps in the first one you can hear a bit more Kate Bush in her voice.
You should definitely do more songs of Blackbriar. Arms of the ocean or Mortal remains are great songs.
My absolute favorite from them is Selkie, also a great one.
Thank you for doing this reaction, Zora is such a unique vocalist. She has that ethereal voice that can be haunting to downright creepy, in the best way possible. Lovely person as well. I recommend "Deadly Diminuendo", it has some other vocal nuggets from her toolbox.
I really love this band is one of my top 3 favorite bands ever, actually i´m studing 2 song of this band for my vocal lessons, i am a man and for me it´s complicated but i´m really trying to do it =)
Thank you for do this video, this band is so amazing and this video can help them to grow more and can be heared by more people
Thank you so much for listening to this band, i have never heard them, I love it so much, very unique and different ☺️
I fell in love with Blackbriar the moment I heard her voice months ago. She has an amazing, beautiful and even haunting voice at times. All of their stuff is so good and tells such a good story.
Absolutely love following your channel , there's no way I'd discover much of the music we are being led to , so thanks to your other followers for sending you in this direction.

I love their music so much.
U can never find something like that in other band
They are like the dark metal Disney band
Sir Joost van den Broek; yes he’s a knight
He’s the co-producer of both Ayreon concerts and he plays the keyboards in these concerts and on Ayreon’s albums.
He and Floor Jansen were in After Forever band.
Good morning Elizabeth and to everybody else! Let us enjoy the music!☕️✅🎧✅
Cheers,

Wonderful reaction again Elizabeth! You always bring more to the music, so I can appreciate it on a deeper level. Zora would make a great "Tea Time" guest.
You should definitely check out their songs "Lilith Be Gone" and "Deadly Diminuendo"! Zora's vocals are insane in those songs (tbh they are insane in every song but yk)
the same for me! Exactly !
I adore this band, hugely underrated, so I’m really happy you talked about them on your channel! I’d highly recommend checking out other songs off of this same album, specifically Deadly Diminuendo and Selkie, as they really show off Zora’s range and talent!
Amazing! You should make a interview with Zora!

Great that you did this review and not just big ones which garantee clicks. This band was unknown to me until today and I really enjoyed this song and the vocals. And with your analysis I even get eager to listen more of this band for e.g. Thanx kirk, patreons and very special thx to E!

Agreed! So thrilled to discover these guys. Adding to my list of underappreciated bands along with Conception and The Tea Party.

cool! excited to see what this will bring to the table :) for a while now i'm particularly fond of "weakness and lust" by them
really entertaining ride again, so much fun :) moar!
*Immediately goes to check Blackbriar out*
Zora's voice is something in my opinion so unique and distinguished in nowadays music. But I'd spend some words for Blackbriar' songs overall. Just how well they use variations in harmony to induce emotions (mostly creepy but not only 😁) like the suspension at the end as you yourself noticed, or their way to handle the lead voice as it was an instrument sometimes... That's something really different. I suggest you try and listen to "The cause of shipwreck" album, which is kind of a concept album...

I love how well the "Moaning Myrtle" nature of her vocal tone matches with the lyrics of the song. Especially in the part right after the boo.
This is incredible I know If any Bard got Blackbriar it would be Elizabeth.
Thx for pushing Blackbriar! You are amazing Miles
Absolutely looking forward to this. Bad timing for me on the premiere but will definitely watch it after the fact.
Blackbriar's Until Eternity could have been an Evanescence song (except for the uplifting and hopeful tone), and Beautiful Delirium is how you'd expect Evanescence to sound in another timeline, where they'd recruited a young Kate Bush instead of Amy Lee.
Then there's I'd Rather Burn - what a masterpiece that song is. And Arms Of The Ocean.
Definitely the best band I've discovered in 2022, and probably the best I've discovered in the 20s so far.
It’s nice to see someone cover Blackbriar since a friend showed me them at work a few years ago. Personally my favorite of theirs has always been Selkie. And just because same friend at work (yay kitchen that let us actually play our own stuff) another one that I feel is right up your alley would be Poets of the Fall. Not sure if their best song to start with, but my favorite of theirs is the live version of Jealous Gods
I once saw a cooment that said "If Amy Lee, Kate Bush and Lana Del Rey had a love child she'd sound like Zara Cock." Whilst maybe not 100% accurate I kind of get what the commenter meant. So glad you are finally getting around to Blackbriar. Such an underrated band and they deserve more success/publicity/attention. Zara's accoustic lockdown session/concert was awesome.
I’m excited to experience Blackbriar. Unrelated, I wonder if anyone has recommended Incubus/ Brandon Boyd. I would love to see you hear them. ‘New Skin’ or ‘Dig’ would probably be my first choices but there are so many good ones
This is amazing! Can you please do more blackbriar songs? Tea Time with Zora would be fantastic! She has a super interesting voice! Thank you for this one Elizabeth! You are amazing
Glad to see you finally discovered them, I've seen them live once and am planning to go again when I get the chance.
So I looked her up and of course she's Dutch. Why wouldn't she be? Apparently the country just can't help itself but produce amazing symphonic metal singers.
Thanx Elizabeth 4 reaction my new favourite band.. Blackbriar
Blackbriar has been one of my favorite bands since I discovered them a few years ago. All of their music is really interesting and unique. I highly recommend "Beautiful Delirium", "Fairy of the Bog" and "Arms of the Ocean"!

Uma das melhores bandas da atualidade!
Yes Blackbriar! Love this band!
I love how she does this song because it feels like she is singing from the other side trying to be heard... it is so well done that it's haunting and entrancing. Then the "BOO" towards the end is like... yes, I hear you, do not stop
I love black briar!!! so so good
Again another really nice reaction! And thank you for introducing this great band. I would love to see you reyct to "Scardust - Tantibus II", which is a really epic song as well. And the singer has a sick range.
