It takes me around 3 hours to groom my Keeshond, and I brush them every few days. You are correct, this breed should never be shaved, only trimmed for health. He displays some issues that I see in my puppy mill rescues. You did a beautiful job Logan, grooming is not even close to easy, but you make it look effortless! 😉
@queenebony Keeshonden need to be in a home with routine and have a good amount of excercise. If your dog is hiding, most likely, it was a puppy mill dog or a kennel dog. It seems to have experienced some abuse before you. Maybe? Be careful for reaching into her hiding space. It can be triggering to her, and she could bite out of fear. Lots of soft voices, healthy treats, and just sitting next to her telling her a story or reading, sewing, emailing always helped my dogs. Think, "invite her to join your life, not force her to be in it." Try watching the channel "Sitting with Dogs" his methods are really kind and successful. Thank you for giving this dog a chance. If you need resources, let me know. Good luck, friend 💓

As a groomer myself thank you for explaining everything you are doing in depth and explaining why you don't shave double coated dogs it is very important to never shave a double coated dogs ever
Nice work. Your take on care of double coated dogs is spot on. I owned a Norwegian Elkhound, and you just comb and brush in manageable sessions. Eventually, you get through the old coat and they're beautiful again!
As a Keeshond owner, you are 100% right with what you said about their coats etc. Sorry for sounding judgey but the owners are horrible if they're not brushing their dog weekly and checking through his coat for burrs etc. They're also morons for getting this kind of dogs coat shaved as it never grows back the same again and is even harder to brush properly. Not to mention the cancer risks for their pink skin. Really surprised that the dog was snarly as they're a super duper easy dog to train and do anything with usually, which makes me think the owners neglect it. Must be so frustrating for you at times trying to educate dog owners on basic freaking care and have them shut you down. Bravo to you for an excellent groom and being so patient. Thank you!!! Shaving can KILL a Keeshond! I've fostered over 2 dozen Keeshonden (Kayz-hond, please, ~en is plural) over the years plus 4 of my own and NEVER NEVER NEVER shave! I had a foster we had no option but to shave due to a severe foxtail infestation and severely impacted coat and he was miserable. My heavy coated boy could go outside in 95 degree temps and was comfy in the shade. This poor little guy would overheat going outside to potty and I'd have to wrap him in a blanket in the a/c. It took several years for his coat to grow out but it was never truly the same. I cringe when I see a shaved Pom or other spitz breed and try to gently educate the owners. Many are shocked to know they're endangering their dog's health. If you can't keep up with the grooming and/or don't want the daily shed and bi-annual BLOW (undercoat) choose another breed!

You are such a sweet groomer oh and funny too! Love the way you groom your scissor work is 100%! ❤️Gunner looked a real fur ball. Great work. I hope Gunners parents bring him to you more regularly.
Keeshond mix parent… I literally NEVER take my dog to a groomer. I’ve had him for 11 years. I don’t trust them not to shave. I have worked thorough the toughest elbow matting. No shaving needed if you have time. Line brushing is a must. A good vacuum is a must. Time out of your schedule for grooming is a must. I only trim paws, booty, and belly with scissors. The first thing I did when I adopted him from the shelter was to look up his potential breed and appropriate maintenance procedures. You did a great job considering the pup had been shaved previously!
You are skillful, love your charges and are hilarious with your observations. As a groomer myself, I can appreciate your pauses about stoic, slightly psycho, larger dogs. Gunner was giving you the warning grimace a few. I hate it when a dog does that! Thank you for sharing your day with us!

Keeshonden have a very sensitive skin and are also very sensitive and nervous dogs, given they are bred for alertness and shaving is often therefor traumatic to this breed and can even set off alopecia. The growling sound they communicate is normally not about aggression but rather showing fear. Our Keeshond can even sound like that when he is truly enjoying himself during play but at the same time feeling a bit unsure of himself if we are doing something that feels new to him. They are usually afraid of things that makes them feel out of control. But since they have very low aggression they don’t often go to any physical stage like biting. Because they are naturally worried about any repercussion that may follow their chosen action. In essence they are smart enough to be afraid and worried. And calculate the outcome of their actions… Thy might mark that they would want to bite though. But will hardly ever follow through. Actually I would advice against also cutting the fur of a Keeshond as the tips of the fur needs to develop their points in order for their fur to become more manageable. And a lot of the problems that come from shaving these dogs comes from the fur not just growing out right. But also from the tips of the strands especially on the overcoat being blunt and not pointy. So cutting, even when done in all kindness to even the fur out - it is still better for a coat growing out to leave it as it is and just get out the matting and slowly comb it out. And then help the owners learn how to keep brushing the coat every week and preferably several times a week while the coat is growing out as that also stimulated the hair growth. If the coat is kept uncut the strands will eventually develop points either by themselves or by the next hair in the follicle growing out right. And since you cannot see which hairs have grown out right and which ones still have a cut of blunt tip - it’s better never to use the scissors on them. Except for maybe around their feet or back end of their legs close to the feet. Trying to keep as low a stress level as possible during a groom is also helpful. So better to charge for some extra time than rushing it through like here. I also advise against using brushes that are as hard as the rake you used here, as their skin is so sensitive. It often goes hand in hand with this breed. They either have a strong and well functioning coat that doesn’t matte very easily or they do have dry sensitive skin, dry coat and often then also get shaved for all the wrong reasons… Thank You though for pointing out the important fact that shaving a Keeshond due to warm weather really is not helpful for them at all. As it instead makes them much less capable to stay cool. Double coats is a natures development since the stone ages when these types of dogs ancestors began living with humans and needed to function in many different climates. Which means they have a temperation system built in their fantastic double coat. So it is better kept as it is and just helped by keeping it well brushed through all the time but especially during summer when the wind needs to be able to go through the coat and all the way to the skin. I wish people would stop saying about this breed that it is so easy to maintain their coats. As in a way it is. As you need not cut nor shave them. You do however need to brush them often and wash their coats once in a while during the year. And the brushing is essential in keeping their coats well maintained. As then it is also in a lot of ways pretty much self cleaning. But a matted Keeshond coat is much harder to deal with. I would go so far as stating that if continually brushing through the coat of your dog is not something you want to be doing when owning a dog - then a Keeshond is not the breed for you. Their coat is not maintained by going to the groomers a few times a year. But in need of a daily brush through for about ten minutes at least every other day… That helps the coat also become less dry as you then distribute some oils from the skin to the hairs which makes the coat look better. Regular brushing also helps the skin by stimulating it which also make them less prone to dryness, (even though some dogs of this breed are perpetually dry skinned. If yours is - increase the amount of fats in their food) For those who wonder about the name it is not pronounced like in this video, even though i truly understand why it happens…😅. But they have nothing to do with a French pie, even though they would love one if one was offered to them…😎 The name really means K’s dog. And the letter K which is pronounced in Dutch pretty much as it is in English. Like “Kay”. Dog in Dutch is hond. Which is similar to hound. But if you think of the car brand Honda but remove the a at the end you get the right pronounciation of the last part of the breed name… That makes the pronunciation of the breed name end up like this: Kay’s hond. Ant that is what they are called. Keeshond. 😘
The best thing for that dog owner is just listen to you like for the dogs sake, it’s better to go by a schedule but it’s up to her. He’s a cute pooch tho ❤️
It's amazing how many groomers don't know about leaving double coats long in the summer. FYI... Long form is fine, shorts are fine. You do both really well and they're good for different occasions 😂
I enjoy your videos. I know some of us will have our own ideas about grooming that may differ. Having had spitz dogs, I am not a huge fan of what I call a "seal" cut where the cut blends face - neck and shoulder together rather than do what is possible to give illusion of the classic " face and mane" of the breed. Dogs like these and and other German Spitz type dogs do well with a fast "line brushing" daily for 3-7 minutes before or after a walk. It makes quite a difference in their shed, health of hair and and more.
Congrats on your new puppy we have standerd poodle and his back in all of an inch to being level with the dinning table. You are a wonderful and kind groomer, and really know your dogs. Love the longer story line. I've learned so much about dogs. We want to get a smaller dog, but I don't want it shearing all over the place. So I watch lots of people grooming dogs to learn more about care and which one I will get. I know lots of people do but once it comes home with me, he's a member of the family.
I love the long videos. There's something so calming about your voice and your sense of humour is exactly what the doctor orders for me. It's a thumbs up from me whatever you post. You should do a q&a sometime if you don't mind. We want to familiarise ourselves a bit more with who you are. Hugs❤️

Poor baby... And yes, they can be a little fickle if not raised 100% properly. And like, they're fine with the heat if they get to veg in the shade with a frozen hotdog or two. Pronounciation guide: Keeys-hound always works 💜.
I have been watching your videos a couple of weeks now and I just want to say thank you for loving dogs the way you do. I've had many dogs throughout my life and so have my family members. I'm known in my family as the one who understands dogs the most, but it's only because I observe each one individually, as you do, and try to reach them each in their own way. And yes, your finished products are works of art.
He looks a lot better after that groom. Owners really need to understand to begin their fur babies young at a groomer as well as keeping up a growing schedule for the doggos upkeep.
I cannot believe how good he looks, it is one perfect trim, amazing. I had a rescue that was double coated and after being shaved once he looked just like this pup. I didn't go to a salon but to "someone close buy that trims dogs". My bad I admit.

For those who wonder about the name it is not pronounced like in this video, even though i truly understand why it happens…😅. But they have nothing to do with a French pie, even though they would love one if one was offered to them…😎
The name really means K’s dog. Keeshond. 😘
What is the best brush to use. Love this video .thank you
I LOVE ALL THE EDUCATION AND HUMOR!
It's great to hear how you love each dog and what is special about each particular one. Keep up the good work!
The best thing for that dog owner is just listen to you like for the dogs sake, it’s better to go by a schedule but it’s up to her. He’s a cute pooch tho ❤️
Keeshonds are the sweetest things. Only had Keeshonds
Being a hairstylist I actually understood your “technical terms” of each shear you used. I think I’d like this much better than cutting human hair
He turned out so cute!!!!
It's amazing how many groomers don't know about leaving double coats long in the summer.
FYI... Long form is fine, shorts are fine. You do both really well and they're good for different occasions 😂
He looks beautiful.
You’re awesome Logan, I love how you put the care and needs of the doggie first. I also love your videos and watch for them daily. ❤❤❤
I love how fluffy and round he looks at the end^^
I enjoy your videos. I know some of us will have our own ideas about grooming that may differ. Having had spitz dogs, I am not a huge fan of what I call a "seal" cut where the cut blends face - neck and shoulder together rather than do what is possible to give illusion of the classic " face and mane" of the breed. Dogs like these and and other German Spitz type dogs do well with a fast "line brushing" daily for 3-7 minutes before or after a walk. It makes quite a difference in their shed, health of hair and and more.
Gunnar looked so handsome after you did your magic! Way to go! Keep on keepin’ on 👍🏼
Congrats on your new puppy we have standerd poodle and his back in all of an inch to being level with the dinning table. You are a wonderful and kind groomer, and really know your dogs. I hope you had a lot of fun at the grooming show. I'm also glad your voice is back. Thank you for your wholesome content. Have a wonderful day.
New subscriber here. I just think you are a very genuine and sincere dog lover that translates into an amazing groomer who has a beauuutiful vision for every little tikey-poo dogie-poo that is destined to hit wind up on your table…and I love it!!! Thank you. 🙏
Hugs❤️
Love this new, longer video. It's fun and educational! Love seeing your growth also, and so excited to see you get even more popular, you totally deserve it!!!
The longer content is so fun. I learn so much more than normal
You’re doing a great job!! Love watching & learning from you!! Keep ‘em comin’!!!
“call me dora explorer because i solves that mystery”
bro is has me dying rn 😂💀💀💀❤️
Yesssss plzzzz do more longer form content I loved this so much!!! Your voice overs are the best!
I really enjoy how educational your content is. I have two German shepherds and have been brushing them a lot more since coming across your channel. Thanks for all your hard work.
I love your content! Thank you for all that you do. Gunner looks so much better!
Love your video’s! I appreciate that you bring in details about breeds, along with your grooming skills.
I have to agree- luv the longer videos! You're fun and interesting to listen to. And of course I'm sure we all love spending more time watching a cutie pie be transformed. The longer the video, the longer I have a goofy smile on my face- and you and the pooch du jour get all the credit! It's kind of like a serotonin boost without the Prozac! 🐩✂️🌻🍁
Beautiful job! I love how you instruct while grooming. I also love your personality. It’s obvious you love what you do!
I had a Keeshond and loved grooming him. He was professionally groomed every six weeks and I kept up with brushing him every few days.
Hope you charge extra for the difficult cases
My groomer had to bath our dog twice and that charge was passed on to me, as it should
Good job! It's neglect, on the owner's part, to not line brush this poor keeshond or bring him in to be groomed more frequently!
The before and after is so satisfying. What a transformation!
We are so proud of you. Thank you for loving all dogs. 🌷🌷🌷💕💕💕💕
This was such an educational video. I never heard of this breed and it was so interesting to learn all that goes into grooming such a dog. You're the best!
My goodness, what an adorable pooch! you did a wonderful job!
Great groom. You did the best you could considering the owner doesn't seem to care. 🐶😊
Dear Logan you are doing a wonderful job on your clients they all look amazing when you are done ❤ you are incredibly talented and informative thank you ❤ something else I noticed you have a gorgeous hair 😊
You need your own show! Keep up the great work! You rock!
This video was so good to listen to in the background while doing something! Actually my dad showed me your TikToks and recommended you to me! You have a very wide audience lol
That is such a sweet message 💕. Keep up the good work Logan! 👍
Thank you for the informative and interesting page. I’ve learned to much!
Finally a long video and he is tooo cute, that bandana looks great on him !! Thanks Logan for the video :)
Your videos make my day! Thanks for the great information. The keeshond looks soo handsome when you finished. Good job!!
Glad you are doing so well on RUclips. You are an excellent groomer. You really work well with every breed. I subscribed!
You can use guide combs on dogs like Pomeranians it’s exactly the same as hand scissoring
I cannot believe how good he looks, it is one perfect trim, amazing. I had a rescue that was double coated and after being shaved once he looked just like this pup. I didn't go to a salon but to "someone close buy that trims dogs". My bad I admit.
You should do a video about all the stuff you use from the scissors, brushes, shampoos all that good stuff
It's the first time i'm seeing a Keeshond pup and he is soo so cutee! Also, you should do more long content Logan, it is really pleasant to watch.
He looks so fluffy! I absolutely love him. He is so cute. Hope the owner will return to you for grooming!
Thank you for taking such great care of these wonderful animals (even sassy pants Gunner😂😂). ❤️
Your contents are making me feel relaxed. Considering that you look awesome always and yes you're so atttactive and one of the reasons why I always watch your videos.
I love the longer videos! I always learn something from ur videos! I don't have a dog, but boy when I do, I will most defiantly know what to do! 💜💜
You are doing a really great job Logan.....I love how these puppy's look when you finish them ❤ Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year 🌲☃️❄️🥶🐾🐾
U really know grooming. U really know dogs.
U really are a dog lover whisperer.
U are a really cute guy and the guys in Chicago better trret u well!
Awh such a cute baby ❤️
Thank you for this! This gave me really good gauge on their maintenance needs, as I am planning on getting a keeshond in the coming months!
Thank you. I love longer video
