The smoky eggplant flavor comes from roasting the eggplant directly in the fire or wood before peeling it. That restaurant is owned by a Master Chef jury called Chef Leandro, so just a great place to eat. The Majarete is made from corn kernels shredded and boiled until thickened and sweetened with condensed milk, is very popular in the country side. Love the good time you are having in my country.
Hii a dominican here! I've been enjoying your videos on our beautiful island so much, I'm glad you guys been loving DR so far. I hope you guys love Cabarete.
@@DelightfulTravellers hi. I'm a Dominican and canidian citizen too. I'm coming home on January 27th to Puerto Plata city to visit my old man he's 87 years old and live in the county side really nice virgin place. I will like to take u guys there.
THE MOFONGO!!!!...OMG!!! It looked sooooo good!!! So happy to see that the Caribbean shares common dishes with different twists. I'm from Puerto Rico and we also have majarete, rice and beans, mofongo, croquetas. Love it that each country adds its own touch!!!! I need to visit this restaurant once we visit. Thank you both!!!🥰🥰
Great content. In the financial district of Santo Domingo, there is a gastronomic street called Gustavo Mejia Ricart, it has close to 70 restaurants of all kinds of food. It's the upscale part of Sto Dgo. But you already left the city 😥
Waooooo guys beautiful video !! My husband and I are so hungry now after we saw you eating those delicious food

The restaurant you were is Casa Gastronomica Siglo XVIII, the owner and chef is Leandro Diaz, one of the judges in MasterChef Dominican Republic. He is a very hard defending person with dominican cousine.
Let me tell you guys that when I see your videos, as a Dominican I get goosebumps, I love the way you explain everything and detail everything I can not ask for anything more, I really love you as a couple, and look, if there is anything negative in DR also post it, we want to show the real deal, but I really love your Channel because you show everything raw as it is…

Hi Anna and Trevor! Love this video ❤️ We’ve never seen or heard of avocado and pico de gallo empanadas. They actually looked delicious 😋 We usually eat the empanadas baked And the flan and the corn pudding looked amazing! 🤩🍮😍 We are foodies so we really appreciate your food videos. Thank you for taking us along! 🤗🤗
What a delightful gastronomic adventure! I love trying new foods. The desserts look very simple compared with the entrees. The pork belly - WOW! I could almost taste it. Thanks for the great video!
The Majarete looks simply but is so hard to prepare and is a dessert from the country side, but the flavor is very subtle and particular. The flan looks like it was made for a professional, no air inside (no holes), beautiful color, perfect 👌.
Thanks Renata! Re: Cabarete. We just knew we didn't want to jump around travelling just yet with Covid + we did a lot of research on this area. Good Coffee, Digital Nomad community + a beach. Sign Us Up! 😎- Trevor

Good video, I would have the following Dominican food during a normal day in Dominican Republic. Breakfast: Mangu (mashed plantain) with chese, ham and cheese omolette and salami. Lunch: ( the flag: rice, beans and meat with a green salad including avocado. Dinner: Seafood soup with a fish plate ( red snapper is my favorite ) or other fishes as well. The dessert is tempted , yes a real temptation.
Great video. Really makes me hungry. I'm going to be in Puerto Rico soon. Just next door. So I know the food will be similar. Really surprised you've never had flan before since you guys have been to many parts of Latin America and it's popular everywhere. And that mofongo looks incredible!

Another awesome foodie video, definitely some delicious restaurant dishes that would be different to try! I’m excited to watch upcoming tours of Cabarete while hunkering down during another Ontario, Canada winter 🥶. Safe travels!
Great content guys! Going to DR next week for the first time. Question, when it comes to drinking water, ice in drinks and fresh veggies or fruits what do you guys recommend? Don’t want to get sick
It's funny how Canadians are really quick to say "we're not American" when someone says "are you American?" when visiting other countries. Tehcnically we are because we are from North America but we always feel like we need to make that distinction. Great video as always guys.
I think we all do that to remind people we (Canada) exist haha 😅 America isn't technically just North America through. When we went around South America all the locals (in various countries) reminded us of this. They really don't like that USA is referred to as 'America' 😀- Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers Good point. I’ve always thought along the same lines. The nation is ‘ United Staes OF America” , implying they are only part of America. So I guess we are all Americans.
@@DelightfulTravellers You are correct in telling people, you are Canadians!! And why not? Every country I have personally travelled to, people want to know if I'm from Canada OR the United States. (Jus' sayin' ☺️)
@@DelightfulTravellers Definitely, lol some people might be surprised that "America" covers everything from the tip of Argentina at the South to Canada. Dominican Republic and the majority of the Carribean Islands are actually part of the "North American" territory/region.
We smoke the eggplant directly on the stove burner for the smoky flavor. If you don’t want to get stuck with the mess though, roasting in the oven works too. The flavor just won’t be as intense.

Also, shrimp or chicken soup “asopao de camarones o pollo” . Also, some avocado 🥑 on the side here and you will tell me later 🤓👏🇩🇴

Anyway looking forward to seeing your next videos. Will you be staying in the same until for the next few months? Just wondering how you are travelling around as it is a fair distance from SD I think.
Enjoying your Dominican Republic videos! You said you were struggling with the all Spanish menu. Did you know the Google translate app will translate an entire page for you? You just choose camera in the app and you hold your phone over the page and it will translate the whole thing at once or you can hold your phone over just one section at a time. It was a lifesaver for me in Spain!
When in Cabarete, go to a complex called Seawinds in Punta Goleta. It has a restaurant called Tuvá. My sister lives in that complex. I recommend you that place.
