- Опубликовано: 6 июл 2024
- The Best Food in the Dominican Republic! This week we're trying Dominican food (and Caribbean food) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. We make our way around the Colonial Zone (Zona Colonial) of Santo Domingo to try a bunch of different dishes, including some traditional Dominican foods, desserts and some higher end dishes.
We start off at a place called Mix Empanadas on the main pedestrian road called El Conde. Here we try a couple of different empanadas plus some fresh juice.
Our next stop brings us to a more local place called Exquisiteces Virginia. Here we try two local chicken dishes - one is chicken croquettes and the other is a chicken pastelito.
We switched directions at our next place. We stopped at Corner Cafe to try some Dominican desserts. We tried flan as well as Majarete (corn pudding).
We took a break and a few hours later went out for dinner. After checking a few places that ended up being way too loud for filming we ended up at Leandro Díaz y su Casa Gastronómica Dominicana. We tried a couple of different dishes including Dominican Mofongo with pork belly and and a baked orange chicken.

Hii a dominican here! I've been enjoying your videos on our beautiful island so much, I'm glad you guys been loving DR so far. I hope you guys love Cabarete.
Hi Karla! We luv your country! We are so digging Cabarete as well. What a place - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers hi. I'm a Dominican and canidian citizen too. I'm coming home on January 27th to Puerto Plata city to visit my old man he's 87 years old and live in the county side really nice virgin place. I will like to take u guys there.
The smoky eggplant flavor comes from roasting the eggplant directly in the fire or wood before peeling it. That restaurant is owned by a Master Chef jury called Chef Leandro, so just a great place to eat.
The Majarete is made from corn kernels shredded and boiled until thickened and sweetened with condensed milk, is very popular in the country side. Love the good time you are having in my country.
Wow thanks for all the details here. So good to know! We are loving your country so much 😍 - Anna
I was just about to comment about the eggplant trick we have and found you😅
THE MOFONGO!!!!...OMG!!! It looked sooooo good!!! So happy to see that the Caribbean shares common dishes with different twists. I'm from Puerto Rico and we also have majarete, rice and beans, mofongo, croquetas. Love it that each country adds its own touch!!!! I need to visit this restaurant once we visit. Thank you both!!!🥰🥰
Puerto Rico and La republica dominicanw have pretty similar gastronomy because we have the same culture mixes.
the food in the dominican is just so ridiculously delicious bro
Comida dominicana = Perfección🇩🇴
Great content. In the financial district of Santo Domingo, there is a gastronomic street called Gustavo Mejia Ricart, it has close to 70 restaurants of all kinds of food. It's the upscale part of Sto Dgo. But you already left the city 😥
Good to know for next time. There's a good chance we'll be back there 🤗- Anna
The restaurant you were is Casa Gastronomica Siglo XVIII, the owner and chef is Leandro Diaz, one of the judges in MasterChef Dominican Republic. He is a very hard defending person with dominican cousine.
amazing food in Dominican Republic my country!
Your food is the best! - Trevor
zona colonial was the first city built by the spaniards during the great colonization of the new world , you can find the first church ever built in america, fortress and other buildings. pretty cool stuff
Let me tell you guys that when I see your videos, as a Dominican I get goosebumps, I love the way you explain everything and detail everything I can not ask for anything more, I really love you as a couple, and look, if there is anything negative in DR also post it, we want to show the real deal, but I really love your Channel because you show everything raw as it is…
Waooooo guys beautiful video !! My husband and I are so hungry now after we saw you eating those delicious food
Very good video. Thanks for sharing. It looks amazing. And was fun to watch.
Ooh that mofongo looks amazing! 😋
We always forget how much we luv Mofongo! - Trevor
Hi Anna and Trevor!
Love this video ❤️
We’ve never seen or heard of avocado and pico de gallo empanadas. They actually looked delicious 😋
We usually eat the empanadas baked
And the flan and the corn pudding looked amazing! 🤩🍮😍
We are foodies so we really appreciate your food videos.
Thank you for taking us along! 🤗🤗
Us either! That one was our fav for sure. They had so many options 🤗- Anna
Wow the food looked delicious, great content as always guys. Safe travels to your next destination. Take care.
The food was top notch! Thanks 👍 - Trevor
All that food looked so delicious and it made me so hungry. You should try the real typical Dominican food, like arroz con habichuelas y carne guisada, sancocho, bacalao guisado etc etc. Enjoy! 🙏🏼🍀
My wife is Dominicana 🇩🇴
@@peterpeter6442 Great! I’m Dominican too. Blessings 🙏🏼
@@m.montero1303 hola 🇩🇴 when are you cooking 🧑🍳🍴🍽 I’m hungry 🤣🤣🤣
Can't wait to try some of these foods in 8 more days! Hubby and I are going to spend 14 days in Puerto Plata.
Great video, I look forward to trying these dishes especially the mofongo
Great video guys! I love how you present food both describing the dishes. How did you decide on Cabarete for the winter?
Thanks Renata! Re: Cabarete. We just knew we didn't want to jump around travelling just yet with Covid + we did a lot of research on this area. Good Coffee, Digital Nomad community + a beach. Sign Us Up! 😎- Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers Try" Pastel en Hoja, Pastel en hoja is made with plantain and some other roots vegetables. Empanada de Yuca. Chimi, Chimi is a Sandwich. Sancocho, Sancocho is a kind of soup made with 3 different meat and root vegetables, Chivo guisado. Stew goat. Habichuela con dulce, Sweet bean" Pescado con coco, Fish coconut.
Enjoyed watching both Santo Domingo videos. The city looks much better than I expected it would, so do the eateries you picked. 😊
Hey guys I truly enjoy the video everything look absolutely delicious great job on this video..
That food all looked delicious. You definitely made me hungry. Thanks for taking us along.😎
Hopefully we didn’t make you too hungry! 😂 Sorry about that - Anna
Another awesome foodie video, definitely some delicious restaurant dishes that would be different to try! I’m excited to watch upcoming tours of Cabarete while hunkering down during another Ontario, Canada winter 🥶. Safe travels!
What a delightful gastronomic adventure! I love trying new foods. The desserts look very simple compared with the entrees. The pork belly - WOW! I could almost taste it. Thanks for the great video!
There were a lot of new dishes to us in the video. So good 🤤- Anna
The Majarete looks simply but is so hard to prepare and is a dessert from the country side, but the flavor is very subtle and particular. The flan looks like it was made for a professional, no air inside (no holes), beautiful color, perfect 👌.
Guys thanks for your videos, having fun 🤩 with your experience there specially with the traditional food and drinks. ❤️
Our pleasure! Appreciate the kind words - Trevor
So nice to see you two back on the road and sharing good food finds with us.😎
Thx! We're having a blast - Anna
I love your videos. I love Majarete😄
A la verdad que ustedes están having fun!
Wow the food look absolutely delicious guys, especially the desserts 😍😍
The food was so good Angie! Great to hear from you again 🤗 - Anna
Hi guys, can't wait to see the RUclips plaque when you get to 100k! Loving the DR through your eyes. Thanks as always guys!
We still have a long way to go but we'll get there Sue 😀 - Anna
This 🇩🇴 is going to help. Subscribing now 😉
Looks delicious. Makes me considering trying to re-create some of those dishes at home.
Never the same as being there though. Thanks for the great videos
It would be a lot of fun to create these at home. Especially the desserts! - Anna

Empanada de Yuca and plantain pastel( Pastel de Platano) are my favorite.

I love your videos, I am from D.R. ,
Living in 🇨🇦 🍁 !
It looks delicious I want majarete now 😋
U guy are the best.👌.
Love to try those foods🙂❤️
Great video. Really makes me hungry. I'm going to be in Puerto Rico soon. Just next door. So I know the food will be similar.
Really surprised you've never had flan before since you guys have been to many parts of Latin America and it's popular everywhere.
And that mofongo looks incredible!
I don't think we did. Desserts aren't really are thing. We only eat dessert in videos haha - Trevor
Great content guys! Going to DR next week for the first time. Question, when it comes to drinking water, ice in drinks and fresh veggies or fruits what do you guys recommend? Don’t want to get sick
awesome guys
Good video, I would have the following Dominican food during a normal day in Dominican Republic.
Breakfast: Mangu (mashed plantain) with chese, ham and cheese omolette and salami.
Lunch: ( the flag: rice, beans and meat with a green salad including avocado.
Dinner: Seafood soup with a fish plate ( red snapper is my favorite ) or other fishes as well.
The dessert is tempted , yes a real temptation.
Oh the food looks delicious 😋
It was!
Omg... 🤤 Majarete.. Sooooo many memories..
It may have been our favourite. So good! 😋- Anna
Corn pudding is great!
Majarete is my favorite!!! I want some now 😩
I think I’d really enjoy that mofongo!! Yummmm
It's funny how Canadians are really quick to say "we're not American" when someone says "are you American?" when visiting other countries. Tehcnically we are because we are from North America but we always feel like we need to make that distinction. Great video as always guys.
I think we all do that to remind people we (Canada) exist haha 😅 America isn't technically just North America through. When we went around South America all the locals (in various countries) reminded us of this. They really don't like that USA is referred to as 'America' 😀- Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers Good point. I’ve always thought along the same lines. The nation is ‘ United Staes OF America” , implying they are only part of America. So I guess we are all Americans.
@@DelightfulTravellers
You are correct in telling people, you are Canadians!! And why not? Every country I have personally travelled to, people want to know if I'm from Canada OR the United States. (Jus' sayin' ☺️)
@@DelightfulTravellers Definitely, lol some people might be surprised that "America" covers everything from the tip of Argentina at the South to Canada.
Dominican Republic and the majority of the Carribean Islands are actually part of the "North American" territory/region.
I haven’t visit my country in 40 years, and because of this video , I decided that I’m going back !!!!! Thank you guys for the video !!!!!
Oh wow... we love hearing that Katherine 🥰 We are so liking the DR - Anna
Nice video, you should try Dominican cake 🎂as dessert 😎
Hola Delightful travelers ,great videos and you guys are making me think that a moth ain’t going to be enough for me on my next vacation to DR ? And it’s pronounce : maharete ! Adiós from New England USA 🇺🇸
I love your video and oso Ilove this contri
Dominican republic is so beautiful contri
so yummy!!
😋
Food delicious 😋
Si quieren seguir probando nuestra deliciosa comida, prueben el sancocho y el chenchen con chico. Me encantan sus videos. Bendiciones.
Hahahaha, the way you pronounce flan made me smile, ive always pronounced it more like flaun ( like you would say flaunt without the t)
Great video! Do you leave a tip at restaurants in the DR, and if so, how much?
Yes we do. Usually about 10% depending. However sometimes the tip is included - Anna
I really love my people!!
We lived in the DR for 5 years. This video made my mouth water. You have to try quite . Sounds like keepay. Enjoy!
Thanks Dwayne! We'll be sure to look that up - Anna
The eggplant dish is like a lasagna with eggplant and yellow plantain, It’s delicious, we have a lot different and delicious meals, I’m glad you tried
We smoke the eggplant directly on the stove burner for the smoky flavor. If you don’t want to get stuck with the mess though, roasting in the oven works too. The flavor just won’t be as intense.
The best food😍😍
Loved seeing a bit of SD and the food. Now onto Cabarete . It will be interesting to hear your comments on the beaches in this area as compared to PC as you are not that far from P. Plato. Anyway looking forward to seeing your next videos. Will you be staying in the same until for the next few months? Just wondering how you are travelling around as it is a fair distance from SD I think.
We're here now and we'll in the same place for months. We won't need a car but will rent one from time to time. We so love Cabarete already! 🤗- Anna
Raised on Dominican Food made by my Dominican mom, best beans on the planet.
love this channel, im visiting zona colonial im from ensanche la fe in the capitol , o soy yo o esos restaurante no tocan nuestra musica?
I love majarete
Look good
Oh man rice & beans with that chicken & mofongo 💋
Wow just got so hungry 😋 by looking that delicious mofonfo with the chunk of pork on top 😋 you should try a rice called “Moro”, either with black beans, red beans or gandules and stew goat and some avocado 🥑 on the side. Also, shrimp or chicken soup “asopao de camarones o pollo” . Also, some avocado 🥑 on the side here and you will tell me later 🤓👏🇩🇴
Enjoying your Dominican Republic videos! You said you were struggling with the all Spanish menu. Did you know the Google translate app will translate an entire page for you? You just choose camera in the app and you hold your phone over the page and it will translate the whole thing at once or you can hold your phone over just one section at a time. It was a lifesaver for me in Spain!
We use that app all the time. But when it's a weird font it doesn't work very well. That's what happened this time haha.... we still managed 😀- Trevor
Hello from NY. What is the name of that restaurant. We loved to visit there.
When in Cabarete, go to a complex called Seawinds in Punta Goleta. It has a restaurant called Tuvá. My sister lives in that complex. I recommend you that place.
We’re going to be there a lot in the new year. We know the building and restaurant 👌- Trevor
Fry foods are very common because they are easier to cook and much are made when there isn’t much to eat
Thanks
🤗
Pastelito is like a mini Empanada in a lot ways
You should try chenchen and Chaca .
Yummy 😋 food. Don't know about the pork belly dish. I ordered a pork belly dish in Italy or Greece. And it didn't look good to me. Maybe next time!
It was a great dish though it does look intimidating 😬 - Trevor
Whoops guys you guys are very and descriptive everything even better than us the Dominican 🇩🇴 🤣..
Thanks so much. We try our best 😀- Trevor
Can anyone suggest good restaurant’s in punta cana area ? If anyone can suggest authentic , best Dominican cuisine restaurant’s I would appreciate it
Try pescado frito in boca chica
I am hoping to use Google translate. Specifically the feature where the camera is used to do an on screen translation. I have been experimenting with it and honestly, it doesn't seem to work very well. Have you tried it and are you having trouble too?
We use it sometimes and it works here and there 😃 - Anna
Please show us a map for those of us who are not familiar with the geography of the DR. It would be so helpful to see where you are! 😃👍
Biutiful
Yummy
🤗
Welcome to DR

But have your tried the most shocking dish in DR, habichuelas con dulce (sweet beans)? It always shocks tourists and it’s so delicious! If you go during Easter, they serve it everywhere.
We did not try that one no!
@@DelightfulTravellers Can’t believe it never came up! My mom loves to make it for tourists just to see their reaction haha
Soy Dominicana🇩🇴🇩🇴
Warning! Guys, if you continue eating dominican food and going around our country, there's a big chance you get so addicted and never leave hahahahah
I think that may have already happened! haha - Trevor
Try Samaná
