I just moved from south Texas to Tennessee and moved my whole house , garage stuff and workshop tools for less than $900. We rented a uhaul, packed it carefully filled to the brim and drove it ourselves. Gas is much cheaper now so spent only $285 on gas and truck was $600. If your not a minimalist and want to move ALL your stuff in one fell swoop then this is the way to go. You have to work hard packing, loading & unloading but it was worth it. Hopefully our last move!
Nice! We weren't willing to drive a U-haul from NC to CA, having never done a cross country trip in a car. It sounds like it was worthwhile in your case.
Laurie Rowe yes I rented a huge 26 ft truck. Loaded, drove it to Tennessee and unloaded it in 5 days. It was a lot of work but I did it all for less than $900 gas included.
@@Eben18 we rented a truck for that short trip to the amtrak location nearest to us in California. Renting a truck for a few hours is pretty inexpensive. I read the website too I think the suspended is for really large shipments like whole truckloads. It appears that up to 500 lb is still available and is considered a pallet
I won't say why I'm an experienced mover it's a lament not a boast. Don't buy expensive wardrobe boxes. Get bulk large contractor bags from Walmart or Home Depot that have the draw string closure not the ties. Turn them upside down and in the middle/center where the seam is cut a U shaped opening. Take your hanger clothes and pull the bag over the top to the hole you cut and bring hanger hooks thru the hole then drawstring close the bottom. You can leave them like this in a vehicle for a local move or fold over and use a much less expensive box for a long move. Yes the clothes get wrinkled but they will anyway. Use all of your (except your best) kitchen dish bath towels older sheets to pack fragile items instead of paying for expensive bubble wrap or packing paper. Yes you'll need to launder the towels but if you use any kind of rental truck or movers everything gets incredibly dusty and dirty anyway. Hope this helps some folks. Good luck everyone!
Very nice...Thanks for the input. Planning out first HUGE move now(4 bedroom/3 states away). Nice tips....Just a heads up to viewers out there. I'm a loan officer for mortgages 10+ years.
