A mommie dearest for the ages. It's unfortunate how actors who were once known for serious parts end up becoming infamous in (arguably) lesser, albeit legendary roles.
Betsy Palmer was the mother of Jason from the first of many Friday the 13th movies….she makes her first appearance towards the end of the first movie….
Krista Brewer Betsy was way ahead of her time. She didn’t conform to the stiff, regimented norm whereby most celebrities on the show (particularly in the beginning) would comply with the rules of the game. Carol Channing was another guest on the show who would often flout the rules, much to Allen Ludden’s chagrin, whilst remaining friendly with her. I think It added unintentional humour to the proceedings, and personally endeared me to Betsy and Carol.

betsy seems like a real nice lady. but she cant seem to stop talking. i have seen her now on several episodes. the guy would not have gotten tonsils, if she hadnt said what are those things called. allen is not able to control the cheating - it is the worst part of the show

@@KristaBrewer-rq7mo hi krista, i doubt if ludden had much to say about who is on the panel. that would have been the owners of the show making those decisions. and they probably told allen to put up with them, cuz they brought the viewers in. i dont really blame ludden, as he probably did not have any more he was able to do. but it sorta reminds me of slapping a kid's hand, and telling him not to do it again - like that really works - LOL
Betsy did cheat when she predicated her "Tonsils" clue with "what would we call those things." Betcha the producers ended up giving EG's partner $250 as well. Especially after Allen's strange ramblings about lawyers.

It wasn’t derogatory, it’s the times, back then it was quite normal for the woman to stay home and bring up the kids etc and the man brought in the money. One of the reasons a lot of kids are off the rails today is because both parents work and don’t put in the time to bring the kids up like it used to be.

If you had a conversation with her, you undoubtedly would have known - she habitually talks so much about stuff she shouldn't that in due time she probably would have told you herself.
She is a habitual cheat with her constant comments and intentional preambles, but everyone thinks she's so cute and lovable doing it - except the poor contestant on the other side who gets cheated out of a fair chance to win the money. You can only hope the show invited the contestant back after Betsy was gone.
