An excellent in depth piece of work Caan. As we have always suspected impossible to get those prices that are advertised, and even if a person could they would be restricted to ridiculously small amounts. All tipsters should only be able to quote their profits at BSP and ISP and nothing else. As can be seen this is the difference when showing actually long term losing selections as winners in the long term. Price value is everything in making potential long term profits. Good work again.

That certainly is a very modern problem with bookmakers. They just don't allow winning and value, I'm sure Hugh knows this though. It's shocking how the industry has evolved over the last 10 years?.

to me there is only one answer, the bookies bung the tipster a few bob and he pings his tip to them first, it’s only one nag, they can adjust it slightly and obviously gauge market movement on their system and place a cover bet on the exchange just in case 😂

Hi Caan, following any tipster long term is a sure way to the poor house, even if Hugh Taylor is good at what he does the minute a horse is out there in the public domain the value has already gone.
And as for getting serious money on with any bookmaker, you have more chance of hitting the sun with a snowball from planet earth.
Unless you are Tony Bloom, then you might get £500,000 bets on with the likes of Star Sports.
I use the exchange but like you say the problem you have there is the Premium Charge.
With all this affordability nonsense and such like it is getting harder, and I have even found a few of my knowledgable profitable friends are even turning back the clock and going back on course, especially at the bigger festival meetings where the market is stronger..
Even after taking the over round into consideration on course they are finding they are getting accommodated and are actually better off than dealing with the premium charge even after travel and other overheads..

It's not a simple two-scenario situation like that. I tip privately after 10am when BOG is available in shop, markets are mature & best odds are generally available & quoting odds only from the major firms & have a ROI over 20% for a 5yr period. Its absolutely possible to make money from sports betting & consequently from following the tips of somebody who gains that edge. However, if the tipster you choose to follow posts their bets to the racing post (Segal,Kealy etc) then dont expect to make any money because the advised odds get cut, your betting history clearly shows who you're following & that's if they've gained much edge in the first place.

Trouble with taking any tip from a tipping service is bookmakers see the price at the same time as punters. If the tipster is any good most bookmakers will reduce the odds immediately. Often taking less time for the bookmaker to shorten than it does for you or any punter to find the price offered. Therefore, of course the advertised price will often (or even usually) not be available. That's not Hugh's fault, just a victim of his own success. As I understand it, Taylor only puts up a tip if believing there is a fair amount of value in it. So if bookmakers bring the odds down a bit, whether it is still value depends largely on how much difference there is in available price compared to advertised.
Anyone following a known successful tipster has accounts closed or severely restricted, in just the same way as following your trading methods will.
Even when giving value tips myself on just a racing forum, bookmakers shortened the price more often than not within a minute of putting them up.... And that's with me pressing my own bet button immediately after I'd given the tip... And it is going to be much worse for a well known tipster. If Taylor does back his own tips then that could go some way to explain why the price can sometimes appear to go before the tip is officially advertised. Frustrating though it is, I'd also expect Taylor himself or someone in the know to mop up betfair prices, explaining why exchange odds may go sooner than you might expect too. When I made something a value bet with a bookmaker that had closed or severely limited my own account, I used to tip it at the bookmaker's price while myself taking betfair odds, even if the latter was slightly shorter. Primary reason for Hugh's tips is to demonstrate it is possible for a punter to make a profit from value betting alone (no trading).
Why bring betfair SP into it? Obviously a successful tipster's tips are going to shorten. So of course the BSP is going to be much worse in most cases and therefore fail to show an overall profit at BSP Had those selections been only available at the price of those BSPs they would not have been Hugh's tip in the first place... So for someone like you - who knows the mathematics of betting - bringing BSP into judging Hugh Taylor's value tips I think is misleading. tbh Am not surprised Hugh blocked you.

Lets face it, if you follow a tipster you cant expect to get on at an advised price that lasts a nano second with the bookies. This happen years ago with the pricewise tips in the racing post the internet and computor software monitoring has enabled price minipulation by the bookies. The plus is that if we see prices reductions like this its an automatic trading opportunity in my view.

Are the bigger tipsters influential enough to shift the price, ie the only reason BSP is lower than advised is because a few hundred/thousand punters are lobbing bets on and if they kept their tips to themselves BSP would mirror their advised price?
Clearly always been shady that they report prices noone could realistically get on at, but even shadier that they are effectively tipping off the bookies first... Days of being able to beat the bookies are fast disappearing!

You would imagine that if somebody is a very good tipster the bookmakers would follow them too. That certainly true, although I find it hard to believe that they move the market significantly. If we're talking exclusively about the tipster in this video, you'll notice that they're tweets only reach 1000 to 2000 people most of the time. Unreleased the price had changed and a lot of the time only 50 people had seen the tweet... The at the races website gets a couple hundred thousand views a month though based on public estimates.

As for the bookies also running scared when they know there is going to be a torrent of money for something, also not exactly surprising. I think profitable tipsters invariably become a victim of their own success.

I applaud the work involved in this experiment but being a first time viewer, I must be missing something. If this was about sports betting tips, I would be screaming foul! Collusion!! This is rigged!. BUT... it's not. This seems to be a hit piece on a particular touter who uses the best scenario possible as his advertising rather than his actual picks. Once again, timing is everything with SPORTS BETTING as the odds change all the time. The odds also change with horses but with one important difference. In sports betting, you get the odds at the time of publication. For horses, you get the odds at post time no matter when the bet is placed. I understand looking for value. But all it takes is for someone at a small track to lay a big bet on a long shot and you will change the odds for everyone. You can't blame the "expert" for the closing odds. Maybe things just work different here in the states. OTBs here usually go by track odds and maybe with a fee. Sometimes, if they are big enough, they will use house odds. But it's still PARIMUTUEL wagering. Ultimately, the tip needed to be a consistent winner would be being able to pick a winner. You certainly can find value, but by advertising it, you dilute the pool and lower the odds, reducing value. I would be much more interested in following someone who could actually tell me who is going to win.

If anyone decides to follow a tipster they will be in the poor house in no time at all. The Bookmaker also always has the edge especially in handicaps. I was in bookmaking for many years in a small bookies in Gidea Park in Essex. From my experiences with punting I now have a slight edge on the bookmaker but don't win fortunes I find that it pays the rent each month . I like to bet on first time handicappers and distances on long odds on shots , Also stakes races are easier than hcps to work out.

I lost a good few quid following them. I find Conor 500 the best- and most honest.
