Thank you so much for this video. I have been a balsa model airplane builder since I was 10. I am now 70. The finished product is wonderful to work with. It is an excellent wood that feels good to the touch. It is easy to carve, cut, sand, and glue. Wonderful product. Thank you SO much
What a great industry. They are not just providing a livelihood for the locals but also practicing sustainability to the environment and the local cultures.
+JaSon Jewels Thanks for watching #TalkBusiness and giving us your feedback on the awareness raised on Balsa Farming! Keep a look out for more videos here on out RUclips channel. Regards, Rachna
I would like to point out to the research team that balsa is a hardwood, not a softwood. surprisingly, the definition of soft or hard has nothing yo do with being soft or hard, but small tubes within the grain of the wood.
im from the model flying world we used Balsa so much up until about ten years ago now we use carbon firbre , fibre glass and foam i wonder what kind of shift in the market this created for Balsa farmers.
Talk Business, Balsa wood is not a softwood, it is classed as a hardwood. Classification as to whether a particular timber is hard or soft, is to do with it's cell structure and whether it is angiosperm or gymnosperm not how it feels to the touch. Hardwoods are angiosperms or true flowering plants that bear seeds in capsules while softwoods are mostly conifers or pine trees.
Kenneth Lyneham, agreed i also heard her say its a softwood. I am busy studying wood technology and it is good to see that somebody else knowledgable noticed this mistake.
Do you think it's a good idea to plant balsa trees here in the Indian subcontinent ? Can be a rich experimental experience ? And where can I find those plants ?
Why do i read multiple contradictory assertions? I still read many sources asserting that balsawood is so expensive because it is very slow growing. Yet here and other sources state that balsa is a very fast growing tree. Could someone knock some heads together and agree on the truth, or are there wide variations that mean both are true?

Without companies to put up the capital and innovate, you would still be living in a cave.
Hey uncle Malagat what a surprise. Me no save wow

A nice business to venture into. Utilizing unused lands for revenue generation.
There is no such thing as unused land.

None there is a great demand on the world for balsa in uses other than model airplanes. I still use balsa in full size aircraft construction.

Any wood with a specific gravity as low as balsa will grow fast.
Bagus bagi saya tdk puas ddgn penampilan seperti itu
I wonder about the jungle forest that was there before the company cleared all the trees and moved all the wildlife to make way for their balsa crop.
That's what I was thinking. It's as bad as palm oil.

If you don't like it, go buy the land and keep it wild.
