And no one talks of how IKEA not only destroys forests in Indonesia but probably other parts of SE Asia too. They just show a certificate that states their lumber is from sustainable sources and viola! The world feels better about themselves for buying from a company that comes from a country with no sustainable lumber source to feed the demand that IKEA has. But if an up and coming Asian corporation would try to lay such a claim, it couldn’t, as the west would bog it down in red tape and paperwork to kingdom come. Europeans and their exceptionalism!!

in that case, boycott ALL major suppliers of any product, as all of them are causing pollution, the concrete in your house , the plastics in your computer and furniture, the stone on your kitchen worktop causes silicosis, the car you drive, your house, your clothes, your shoes , all mass produced items have a detrimental affect on the environment, even hand made stuff, I've seen people do wood turning and who then use resins to make discarded roots look beautiful, but these are highly toxic, its hand made, one of a kind, but its polluting. I know someone who ended up with COPD after using resins for making sculptures. How many of you have tattoos? the inks used for them are mostly toxic. None of us are innocent of fucking up the planet, the best thing you can do is have no kids and cut back to a very simple lifestyle. even potters who make hand made pots contributing towards using global warming . The people, who made this film traveled around in cars or planes to different parts of the world, they contributed to pollution, by storing this movie online its causing high energy consumption, storing all your stuff online is causing masses of pollution as servers run 24/7 . Our entire civilization is untenable as there are far too many of us to sustain it for an extended period. .

Its ironic that so many here are up in arms over Ikea, but everything you buy has a negative impact on the environment, harvesting timber on a large scale is going to cause damage, regardless of how its produced, unless the company harvesting the wood is highly ethical>
Your electronics that most of us cant do without for even five minutes are probably a lot more destructive than Ikea's wood based products, best buy as little as possible , recycle , use stuff again if you can and live frugally. What is deplorable is that Ikea paints itself as green when in many cases they are not, but greenwashing is highly prevalent nowadays.

Some of their designs are ingenious, like that red plastic collapsible chair. Some stuff is one-time use. Also, that sourcing of wood is truly painful. There are thousands of players, and some are just thieves. But even the ones that get all permits, they still destroy the forest. I have a feeling that we just consume too much.

I can tell you after serving time in 32 different countries the unadulterated explication of children between the ages of 9 and 16 is unprecedented. I spent a short time at a factory in China. Behind this clothing Factory no less than 30 children between the ages of 9 and up we're stacked on each other, all of them dead. The Cause of death was lack of food and water and being worked to death. The products produced in this Factory were shipped to European and United States locations. I Served as an Officer in the United States Navy back in the 1970s. I worked in the Department of Special Warfare for the United States Navy. Assigned to Seal Team Four. If you'd seen what I've seen in many foreign countries you would have to turn your face and weep for days. I had my stomach full by the end of the 1970s. I tried to become a whistleblower. My life was entirely ruined by it. Now I am an old man and look forward to death. I assure you there's not a single individual in the governments of Europe or the United States, that carries at least a confidential security clearance that is not completely aware of the devastation being taken out on children across the world. Trees will regrow, they always do. Every child's life that's knocked out of existence, means that child will never have the opportunity to achieve what they were meant to be. This is just bullshit. They are giving IKEA shit for something other companies do. IKEA invest billions in making sustainable products from renewable sources.
The problem with this is also that the reporters do not understand the process and the person from IKEA where not prepared for these questions and did not have the possibility to prepare documents or explain, my guess is that this person from IKEA also do not understand the process but are responsible for many types of processes within IKEA.
Just take the sawmill for example, IKEA does not buy big, old nice timber from them. IKEA buy all the sawdust and what is left over, that the sawmill cant make boards/planks of. There is no reason for the sawmill to sell good wood to a lower price to IKEA, that's just dumb.
Kronospan do not only make products for IKEA but also other products, different products have different components. For some products, a higher amount of recycled products are used and for other less amount of recycled products are used.
And it would not be in the interest of IKEA to buy stolen wood, make deals on the black market or cut down rainforests illegally. That would be really bad pr that they would lose a lot more on than they are winning by it. Just take the example when IKEA tried to get into the Russian market and people wanted bribes to get things built, turn on power and so on but IKEA said no and instead of getting power and the right documents directly it took years. Or just look at all the investments IKEA do to use more and more recycled materials of all kind every year. They even use recycled material even if it's more expensive than getting new material.
As I said this is bullshit and unfortunately IKEA did not do a good job explaining everything and the reporters do not understand the process and partly blamed the wrong company
