    Seems to me that the same internal shenanigans at the U.S. Mint that took place with the production of the 5 known 1913 Liberty Head Nickels may have taken place with this coin as well. Thanks for sharing J&B. See ya in the next one.

    How can a coin that could’ve been intentionally struck on wrong planchet be considered an error vs illegal if not preauthorized while, if memory correct, an aluminum coin could be confiscated or mechanical doubling not an error since its accidental and during minting process? So confusing lol

    I bought a few Indian heads yesterday one was a very clean 1905 .I can't wait to get home and weight it!

    That's an exceptional coin. Had to be intentionally altered. Thanks J and B!

    It's a special coin someone at the mint made for fun and wasn't supposed to get outside of the mint. No I'm not the POLLOCK Mr. J mention in the video, 😁. Thanks for sharing this story.

    Very interesting! Maybe mint employees were trying to sneak gold out as pennies some how. Just another thought. Thanks for the video and info J&B!

    Definitely not an error coin but a great coin minted for someone special. Once in a while I'd say someone at the mint gets an idea and go's with it.1905 INDIAN HEAD GOLD. Now that's an idea🖒🤔

    Someone at the mint made it and this is why we coin hunt

    The coin is a "special production " for special client. And also hard to believe someone found it in a roll coin.
    Thank you Ms B and Mrs J for great video.
    Stay safe and healthy and see you tonight

    An error like this seems very intentional, but wow if you could get your hands on this one.

    Hmmm my guess would be an intentional error - the worker was probably singing an 1870s one hit wonder and decided to have a little fun 😀

    This is awesome info especially because I never knew that it was a Indian head penny struck in gold

    I think it is a “Special Production” piece. Not only the gold but the strike is awesome.

    Very cool coin! I feel either it was minted to hand out to special collectors like you said, or someone was trying to make themselves some extra cash. 👍

    I think this coin is a special/ intentional print. Someone meant for this to happen. Were any found in circulation? Probably not. Thanks for sharing J.

    I have a new thought about error coins, would really enjoy picking someone's mind about how errors are handled at the mint.

  • @turtlejj8024
    @turtlejj8024 3 года назад

    i do think it is an error. the reason if the person running the press was trying to meet a schedule/quota it is plausible that a few gold blanks could be over looked in the machines hopper after the pressing was done. So before anyone double check they move on to the next work order, change dyes and dump a bunch of copper blanks on top of the forgotten gold ones.

    My opinion is production piece if buyer it was a huge one thank you for the video I'll be checking

  • @superred5
    @superred5 3 года назад

    There’s no WAY those coins were stuck in error. Just getting the gold planchet into the press would be a set of circumstances that would be along the odds of getting bit by a shark, struck by lighting, and winning the lottery ON THE SAME DAY. That doesn’t make it any less cool, though!

    What is a 'pattern coin'? Don't know that I've heard that term before...
    Now I've got a new coin to add to my bucket list of what I want to dig that'll never happen. ;-)
    In a way, it's somewhat comforting that the ineptitude of the mint is not a new thing. Given that the story of the 1913 V-nickel is of a mint employee striking them & giving them to his daughter to take home and her spending some on ice cream on the way, it wouldn't be a stretch if something similar happened here.

    I think an employee of the mint did it on purpose it is hard to believe that the employee dose not know the difference of the look of copper and gold. Just saying
