    This is great! I love learning how pro mechs do work! I'm a DYI'er. Question, I did all four struts on an 88 Camry plus inner and outer tie rods. Would I go and get a four wheel alignment or thrust alignment since I messed with all four wheels? Thank you!

    This seems to be very common with alignments. People get pretty upset that their cars steering wheel is not straight and level at the end of an alignment.
    Too me, this is a reflection that the techs just powered through the job and no attention to detail.
    I've done some in the ground using measurements and visual.
    They come out really close to where they belong when we take to vehicle to alignment.
    It is nice to have the machine, but its not impossible to do without it.

    Excellent video. I had no idea how alignments were done.

    Thanks for the video! I have been looking for more info for being able to interpret between the specs and what the machine says after compensation and caster sweep. Where could I find this info? I like your way of teaching. Keep them coming?

    On these Camrys and several other Toyota cars, the caster is not adjustable. In this video your readout indicates the right front wheel caster is out of spec, your final finished readout shows the caster is within allowable specs. How was the caster spec brought back within specs?
    Thanks.

      I don't do this enough to give you an exact answer of what happened. But spitballing here a couple years after the fact, caster is ONLY changed with a caster sweep. I am assuming that this was on a screen that used a calculated or estimated caster that through the toe set, changed just slightly. Comparing my before measurement to when I am showing it all in the green, the number only changed like 4-6 seconds of a degree, almost nothing. So the only reason this is showing green is because it was right on the edge to begin with. At about 21 minutes in the video I don't address that it was red but now is green, but I do address that it is a non adjustable angle and I would love to adjust it but cannot. Good eye and great question.

    So how did you adjust camber on the rear wheels?

  • @xavior718
    @xavior718 3 года назад +1

    Let’s say I have a very noticeable positive camber. When correcting positive camber, if you adjust the lower control arms outwards, would you be pulling out the axles a bit? How would you go about doing the camber correction if that’s the case?

    Dumb questions. I own a '19 prius. Im TRYN to take the best care of it. Im mechanically inclined but know nothing about alignments. Do u recommend putting TWO castor bolts per wheel? How about using antiseize on the bolts before install? I figure when I have to do struts down the road, it makes my job easier. Is there anything ELSE I can do for my alignment guy to make his work easier? Bolts need installed on my prius bc never been aligned. So I have to install bolts on front AND rear? Thnx. Great video!

    Great video..!, where can I buy those nuts and bolts for the rear struts ..?, I have this Camry (a 2002) and I put a 17 wheels on it but the wheels are like tilted in the top of the wheels in the back, after take it to the shop, alignment shop says they can’t adjust it anymore and wheels are still tilted, they say there is a way but they wouldn’t tell me and want to charge me a lot of money, that is why I need those nuts to adjust the struts, thanks for your video

    I have a 2007 Toyota Camry which has noticeable under steer with the factory alignment. I know the steering can be adjusted to help eliminate this . My question to you , can you request this type of adjustment ? I realize tire wear will be an issue with more frequent tire rotation .

    Dealership did an alignment on my 04 cmary and said I needed to replace the Rear Toe Tierods... would that be the lower rearward control arm? Trying to do a diy and save a few bucks

    Does the process of aligning a car look the same across all suspension types? I know the Camrys of this time used double wishbone suspensions, so would the process vary at all for something with say a multi-link suspension?

    • @autolong68
      @autolong68  3 года назад +1

      Wonderful question David! They really can look very different between different suspension/drivetrain types. Maybe I can make a video running through some of the different types of adjustments/adjustment locations/adjustment options. From shims, to slots in control arms, eccentric cams, and sleeved adjusters... all the way to cars that offer almost no suspension adjustment beyond toe (without replacement of parts). Let me see what resources I have before I go working to reinvent the wheel, but that is a great point, alignment processes can be VERY different.

    Just had my Camry done.I was hit on the driver's side by another car several weeks ago.No matter what the mechanic did he couldn't get the chamber in speck.So he got it as close as he could.When I was a kid the phrase was set the tow and let it go.
