It’s more effective to use saddle soap then wipe it off with a dry towel. Follow up with a cream polish then shoe polish if you have a matching color if you have it.
Apply mink oil by hand and let it stay there for 10 minutes minimum to give the oil a chance to penetrate the leather. Then you brush it with the horsehair brush.
Thanks! I just bought a nice pair of proper leather boots bc I got tired of replacing my cheap fast fashion ones every 2 years when the fall apart. I’m trying to learn the best ways to care for them so I can keep them as long as humanly possible!
I personally don't use mink oil on my boots because it does indeed darken the boots, albeit more so at first and will lighten up in color quite a bit afterwards. I instead like to use leather conditioners that don't darken leather at all or very very slight and make sure it has things like beeswax in it to help protect the leather and then I hit it with a light spray of waterproofer that is meant for leather boots and that helps to maintain my boots nicely.
Leather conditioner to make sure enough moisture to the leather so it can make your leather shoes last longer. Use leather conditioner once in a 6 months.
It is a really bad idea to apply conditioner with the same brush as you did to remove the dust and dirt. It can scratch the grain pretty bad. It's a better idea to use a microfiber cloth for that. Also, use saddle soap before conditioner, letting it thoroughly dry each time. Then, use a weather protectant that doesn't trap moisture and cause the leather to rot. The frequency of how often you clean and condition your boots depends on how hard they're worked. Typically one month for the actual blue collar worker. If you really care about your Iron Rangers, I'd advise getting a cedar boot tree to help maintain its shape too.
Naw, correct way is: 1) remove laces, brush off dirt 2) hit whole boot with saddle soap, wipe off 3) Wipe boot down with clean damp rag 4) Let boot dry for 8-24 hours 5) apply leather balm to boot
No prob, gotta save people from bad information 🤙🏽

First step, makes sure you’re doing this to a boot that’s worth doing it to. Taking care of the leather makes no damn sense if you’re gonna wear the sole out in a year and can’t have it resoled
Too dark, Venetian shoe cream or bick 4 is a better choice in my opinion, they won't change the color.
Thanks for your sharing...😀
Those won't weatherproof them as well though. So it depends on whether you're just trying to look cool, or actually need your boots to be functional.
@@MrFreeGmanWhoever wore those boots doesn't know what weather is.
Mink oil is fine. It doesn’t darken it that much. It looks darker upon first application but will lighten over time
Yes is darkest after

Now do the same video with real everyday dirt on the shoes...
I always used mink oil on my Iron Rangers, but the amber harness color turned into an almost purple color. Which I liked.

Used this mink oil for years, very good!
What's the difference between leather conditioner and leather cream and when to use them ????

I clean boots and then cover with mink oil by hand, especially along the stitches. A hair dryer seals the deal. You can watch the leather soak it up.😮
Great tip!
Which is the brand of this pair of boots please ?
Red Wing Iron Ranger 😁
Great job
If mine looked that good just to start the day. I’m doing pretty good.
I leave my shoe in the boxe, then they last for decades and still look and feel brand new, i highly recommend doing
But then u can't wear em

Interesting to use the horse hair brush to rub the oil in
You can try it. Easy and convenient…
After applying the mink oil, heat the boots with a hairdryer to melt it in. Works great !

They only used soap water on the sole, which is fine.

My advice is for people who put their boots to use too and actually work for a living, not some prisses wearing carhartt because it’s cool 😘
Brush them after every use, clean them when they get dirty, and don't wear them every day. They will last decades.

And a shoe tree. :)

Maybe for a dress boot.
Yea not for iron rangers lol. 6 month clean is more then good it was built for iron mines after all. Beat up IR Look wayyyy better the clean ones imo.
Mink oil will allow the boots to stretch and deform the leather over time… no?

Слабоватая чистка. И зачем снимать видос о том как помыли мыльной водой и натëрли воском с маслом????
OMG! 😱
This "advice" is bad. You need to heat up the leather before applying impregnation/wax. Learn how to do it before you start teaching people.
Thanks for your suggestions and good advice…😁

Reminder, you should use saddle soap for leather as opposed to normal soap.
Thanks for your sharing, I will take not on that…🙂
Saddle soap contains lanolin which helps prevent soap from extracting too much of the natural oils in the leather.
I use Murphy's oil soap but that's what I've always used because it's what the old timers in my past taught me to use for leather
Modern soaps are pretty mild. I've gotten by using a drop of dish soap on leather for years.
mink oil can deteriorate your boots if you use too much
Thanks for your sharing… 😁
I think any product that you add too much of will make your leather mushy and wet looking. Not what you want.
