I think that Magneto, while he IS powerful enough to control metal from a long distance, he isn't as developed at SENSING metal at a distance...and he doesn't or can't control, what he can't sense...so unless he can actually see it, or, it comes quite near him, he won't try to control it. This is the movie that got it all started. I remember when it came out. I was blown away. I had never seen a comic book movie this well done before.

The first X-Men is a good and entertaining movie, but X2 is the one that really kicked off the Fox Marvel universe.

No you two, wolverine is not a wolf. A wolverine is it's own animal. They are like big badgers. But to be fair even Hugh Jackman the one playing Wolverine didn't know wolverines was a real animal when he got the role, and he thought it was some kinda wolf.
I think that Magneto, while he IS powerful enough to control metal from a long distance, he isn't as developed at SENSING metal at a distance...and he doesn't or can't control, what he can't sense...so unless he can actually see it, or, it comes quite near him, he won't try to control it. Ironically, these facets of skill are the exact things Prof. Xavier teaches students in his school.

I love the X-Men not quite as much as The Avengers but I will always see Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf. In the Comics rogue is far far far more powerful than she is portrayed here.
But in the comics (at least when I was reading them) she was a full-grown adult and a trained X-man. Here's she's just a new, young mutant.
The word mutant was known long before comics about them.
