Good video and helpful. Mine is an M8.2, the kissing cousin. The problem is not UV but IR. B&W, the German firm, sells a special IR filter for the M8/M8.2 to eliminate the color discoloration. It is the B&W 43 486 UV IR Cut filter. In a comparison between the M8.2 and the M240 the M8.2 was the clear winner in color. sharpness and a holographic effect.
I'm a proud owner of a Leica M8.2 Safari, one of 500 sets ever made. Still in perfect condition. The crop of 1.3 is perfect with the set lens, a 28mm lens, which puts it to a 33mm lens. Use it a lot (even I should put it into my bank safe 😂😂). Great, light cam and feels great in larger hands, cause it's a bit thicker. I also own a M2, M6, M240 and a IIIf. Thanks for posting!
Took my M8.2 to an American Baseball game. My Canon kit usually gets confiscated and put into Will Call till the end of the game. The M8 was ignored and the official MLB sports shooters commented and thumbs up'd me for shooting an old digi rangefinder. The images came out great. Cheers!
There are times when my M8.2 paired with the latest 50 mm Summilux ASPH lens managed to produce color images more pleasant than my other M cameras. Could that be the original CCD magic?
One can have M10-R does not mean they will have a picture made with impact when someone know how to operate with a M-8.... great photos you did with M8!
I forgot to mention that I had my M8 about 5 months ago, after I just had my Q.... and i like the fact it is not a full frame with 1.33x crop, and the shutter sound, as loud as it does... i kind of like it when you set discreet mode.... oh yup B&W is amazing even though I have 246 with me... and I don't bother to put up a filter to correct whatever..... because when you shoot M8.... you need to think like a M8 I suppose....

Hi Roger, I use a UV/IR filter with my M8. You should find the filter size on the inside rim of your lens. Try looking on Ebay, or a few Leica dealer stores.

Hi Bah, in the set menu my settings are very simple. Iso 320, EV 0, White Balance is Auto, JPG Fine, and that's it. You can experiment and set it to whatever you fancy. Have fun .

Thank you Martin, Yes, all the images are with the Summicron 50mm except two. I cropped the one of the girl in the window so the aspect ratio is a bit different The B&W seascape was taken with a 28mm Elmarit lens. I do like the 66mm field of view very much. I have a Leica M240 (full frame) as well as the M8, The fact that one camera is full frame and the other isn’t, doesn’t bother me. I think it can give you a chance to be a bit more creative with one lens.

As far as the filter goes, I have sometimes forgotten the filter and shot some very good images. You just have to keep an eye on the darker shades. Some people don't use a filter and are very happy with the results.
Anyone thinking about purchasing an M9 (ME) should be aware that this model was manufactured with a dodgy filter over the sensor that can result in very large and ugly artifacts in the image. Check that the camera you're interested in has had the sensor serviced or replaced. My ME developed this problem, Leica doesn't fix it and it cost 1500USD for a 3rd party repair. Even after the fix I still prefer my M8 to my ME for both B&W and color images.
Stick to me film MP.. had it near 20 years ..no worries about sensors or value depreciation.. on Leica not wanting to know anymore..(love leica’s can’t stand Leica).. will always buy second hand now . Just load film and go .. expecting another 20years without having to worry.
More film like? Which film stock Leica produced? Sorry, but all Leica gear justificaton videos are the same. Kodak ccd and Fuji xtrans sensors are the closest to film you will get, noise included. No other camera brand makes film and digital cameras besides Kodak and Fuji.

At 8:00 actually the M9 have more problems with most of the sensors needing replacement.
Thanks for this M8 chat, Kris. I use mine with the Summicron-C 40mm and the M-Rokkor 28mm. The former brings the image closer to a "normal" 50mm lens.

Does anyone out there know how to keep the back screen on when taking pictures. My screen works Ok in setting mode but goes off in taking mode !

As far as I know, the M8 has not had problems with corrosion of the sensor.

I prefer by far M8`s images before FF M 240. Sadly central menu ring is out of function. Still hope for many years of joy. Good M8 talk👌
