The whole time his stepfather was a closet homosexual. Forcing people in the closet has a devastating impact on so many lives. That man ruined Billy’s innocence as well as Billy’s mother’s trust and ability to make decisions.

Exactly. It’s called dissociation. I’ve noticed some people laugh or giggle when in emotional pain and it seems so strange but it’s a coping mechanism to deal with emotional trauma/ pain .

I wonder who this man would be had he not been molested as a child. Therapy is needed so badly in our community. Where are the effects of this trauma being expressed, because its going to come out of the lifestyle or emotions in some type of way.
Exactly very traumatic for a child they don't even realize what's happening to them until they get older and the shame and guilt affects them then there's drug use,suicide and depression it's tragic the abuser goes on abusing other children when people hide this stuff so sad.

I grew up in Pentecostal church, as a child I told my family this is a cult and there's something wrong with this... Thank God my family left the PAW 20 years ago but the pain is still there

so sad his mother failed him he loves her so much even defended her in a article I read he talked about the abuse it was hard to read I would've lost it on that man probably killed him he told her as a teenager what was happening even confronted the step father and his mother was present but had already told her before that confrontation and she did nothing just told him to be a good Christian and forgive him. The step father just said I didn't do anything to that boy he didn't want how disgusting a child a small child we can forgive people but we don't condone or ignore what happened people have to be held accountable for such acts especially against children no excuse he should've been removed from that home and sent to prison for his crimes which were horrible.

The Church is suppose to be a ‘hospital’ to all. As all have fallen short of the glory of God.
I know right. I am disappointed in the church. What would Jesus do??? Jesus would love and care despite the person's fault or sin.. He took time off with the woman who committed adultery and set her free. This is why I stay home and pray in my house.

But the church turned on me too when I was a homeless teen I had dope dealers treat me better and look out for me I went to several churches seeking food and help for shelter only one church gave me some can goods and sent me away which I couldn't open 😥😂🤕

That tore me up inside because I have a tendency to carry the load by myself. I'm heavily self-reliant and never ask for help. It must tear him up inside to know his mother would've supported him once he contracted HIV. But the stigma of having it discouraged him from reaching out.
I hope Mr. Porter heals from his heartbreak from his trauma I pray for him he is a beautiful soul and he should never have to be called a abomination

We’re living on borrowed time and I can’t live for you and vice versa. My brother died from this disease! He stopped taking his medication because he was no longer happy with his life. We loved him, but that was not enough!!!😢

I loved Billy Porter from the second I saw him in that beautiful dress at the Oscars. He's amazing. I didn't know one thing about him, but I could FEEL his energy just by watching him on screen. I could instantly tell he was a warrior and a hero on a quest to free his people. I am glad doing POSE has helped him to free himself, at the same time. Pray Tell's life really was almost exactly paralell to his own. My God, what a spirit in his soul! What a beautiful man.

I cried through this entire interview. It’s always been painful to know that people feel they have to hide who they are out of fear of judgment, violence and or being ostracized by the very people you need. And for that reason will never seek what they need wether it be help, love, acceptance or just a freaking ear to listen. Smh

God doesn’t turn away this children but you can’t come to church to be a child of God and be “proud of being Gay” that’s just like me being proud of drinking or smoking when I know it’s a sin. I truly truly understand Billy's traumas. I can relate going through trauma after Trauma and yet it resurfaces years later when you disassociate your pain. I did that for years!! I can't believe how STRONG Billy Porter is. I was never molested but went through high school being known as the school queer. All kinds of verbal and occasional physical abuse. I hid my gayness from everyone, although most people knew, until I was 40. After a severe depression, part of my therapy was getting rid of that baggage I was carrying all alone. I came out, my family was very accepting, which was my worry for all those years. I was finally living my truth, as Billy states about himself. Stopped hating myself for being different. It was freeing. Hearing Billy's story brings back my own. Living out truths is a must. It's who we are. Trying to live a lie helps no one. Thank God for Billy Porter telling his truth. If he helps even one gay person live their truth, he can be proud. It's what Pride is all about. Truly is an inspiration. Thank you Billy.

I love Billy, I always talk about how the church just shut out and mistreat 🏳️🌈 I really hate it. I have gay family members and I also have a transgender cousin who is HIV positive. Whenever I see Her it’s always laughs we talk and everything. People are so stuck in the past and think God doesn’t love or welcome 🏳️🌈. But if you really read and understand God loves all his children as they are!!!! I have had family members who’ve died from AIDS. My close aunt who I loved dearly, I miss her and her jokes and laughter. To me people must not judge, it’s up to God at the end of the day and just because people are who they are we don’t know their hearts. I’m a supporter of all things love. Gay , straight whatever.
