    I went from over 100 strong IPA's a week for the past 10 years to zero overnight. Sleeping was very difficult at first. A couple headaches (wasn't drinking enough fluids), mood swings, and anxiety for the first week. I'm 14 days in and was very surprised that it went as well as it did. I am sleeping better than ever, eating healthier more often, and keeping busy with tasks around the house I would normally put off. Still have some mood swings, but they are getting less intense by the day. Hope everybody out there is doing well with their journey. One day at a time!

      I drink a 6 pack of 9% IPA every day after work and a few more than that on the weekend. I really want to quit but am afraid of the withdrawals. Everyone’s body is different but I’m wondering since you were drinking double of what I drink, if I will even have any withdrawals.

    • @silverstacker177
      @silverstacker177 Год назад +6

      @@tonymedina922 The main problem for me was that I couldn't have just one. If I didn't drink at all, I was ok, but as soon as I had one, I went back for a dozen more. As far as withdrawals, yes, everyone is different, so I cannot speak on what you may or may not go through. On the safe side though, obviously quitting will lead to a more healthier life in the longrun. I know people who have tried the step down method every other day or so and that worked, and I have known people who quit for a good period of time but all it took was cracking one cold one to bring them back into the cycle again. You have to find a way to distract yourself when the cravings come and distance yourself from areas where there are other people drinking or where you may be inclined to pick up a six pack just for the hell of it. It's not so much the alcohol that creates the addiction, but rather the action of drinking, i.e. picking one up, cracking it, and consuming it and reaching for another and another, etc. To sum it up, quitting outright is one of the best ways to do it and get through the symptoms as they present themselves and make sure you have a proper understanding of your body and heath risks that you may already have or could have if you quit cold turkey. Hope this helps you on your journey. Stay safe and listen to your body. If something is not feeling right, seek out professional help ASAP.

    I like one specific drink, bubbly champagne. I can drink almost 2 bottles each night. I wake up so lethargic and foggy headed. Not liking it anymore, I actually look at the glass of it & ask myself, why? Why do I waste my $ & life away? Yesterday 8/2/23 I decided I don’t want it anymore. I didn’t drink last night & I slept pretty good, just restless at first. Today I don’t want it again, if it’s not in my house, I won’t drink anything else. I am determined to stop this useless cycle of drinking, I am 63 & want to enjoy the rest of my life! I am relying heavily on God, His power is stronger than mine & I am begging him to help me not crave the wine. I want to get to the point when I don’t think about it & I will be happier. I feel positive about this & I hope all who read this will succeed in their journey to sobriety 🎉🎉

    My story: I was a binge drinker for 50 years. How did I stop drinking so easily? I skipped the counseling and anonymous platitudes. I went to my doctor. He gave me a choice of two remedies. The monthly injection of Vivitrol or the daily 50mg tablet of naltrexone. I took the tablets for 30 days to detox and almost immediately lost the cravings for beer. Losing the cravings was as easy as taking Motrin for muscle aches. Mark me safe from alcohol

    • @imsobored1040

      Vivitrol is incredible and works amazingly well for cravings and I’m glad you’re doing better now. However, vivitrol won’t help with alcohol withdrawal. It works for cravings, but if anyone is having withdrawal symptoms, they should be in the hospital detoxing. Once the withdrawals are over they could go on Vivitrol to manage cravings.

    This video is very accurate. Don’t mess around with alcohol withdrawal. If you are a heavy daily drinker and want to quit, don’t just quit suddenly. You should go to detox where they’ll give you benzos in controlled doses to prevent severe withdrawal symptoms. Once you’re past the withdrawal then there’s many options to help you stay sober. AA, rehab, etc. just be careful with how you decide to stop

    I used to drink 14 beers a night , Every night . Then I started to slow down to 7 beers a night . When I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma with three brain tumors . I felt I had no reason to stop ." Gonna die anyway " so I kept on drinking . At the Cancer Center for infusions , They always do blood draws and my liver sparkling perfect ?? .. Made no sense . A few years ago I was offered end of life counseling and refused " I drank to that " To my oncologist surprise I am still alive . So I decided to just quit .I had a 3 beers one week and Yuk . tried a 2 beers a few days ago . and Yuk .. 5 beers in the last 3 weeks and I am done . I haven't exhibited any signs or side effects . Granted , three years ago I was prescribed benzo's " Ativan " for my nerves .. Yes it's nerve wracking going through cancer . So they might be helping me avoid the shakes and tremors. Then again . I prayed to The Lord , Help me stop drinking . Make me hate it . I now hate drinking . A few years ago I asked the Dr " Don't they ween patients off of benzo's ?" ." Well in your case seeing that you haven't got much time .We will continue on Ativan ". Well I exceeded the life expectancy of Stage 4 and now NED " No Evidence of Disease " .. I don't mind them slowing me down on the benzo's .. I know they can scramble your head after long time use . Not ready for 2 detoxes at one time . One at a time . First to go is the alcohol . and I just want to say " I feel fine" .. quitting is doable . I think there is an enzyme in your brain that can win any battle . It's The Will Power Molecule " and it's not that hard.. Now if I could get back all that money I spent on alcohol !!!!

      When all they have to do is put you on a decently high dose of librium or clonazepam in a lower dose, would be as pain free as possible. But, of course. Because we're addicts (opiate addict in recovery here), we can simply not get the right treatment. Yet opiate addicts can get buprenorphine or methadone, alcoholics deserve the same courtesy. Higher dose of benzo for 10 days or less, and they won't crash so hard they get ptsd or post acute symptoms. People say "feel the pain so you don't remember " literally not realizing that even during active addiction, we still have been sick, sometimes fully detoxed due to no substance Available, and it is not something one should go through cold Turkey. Screw that. Either taper or get some clonazepam on your own and for 10 days, smoke a little weed, take your clonazepam, continuously drink fluids, feed your body properly and should be ok. But nope, we don't get that luxury of painless detox. It would destroy the income of medical facilities, pharmaceutical companies, etc. If it were made too easy to detox someone smh. Opiate addicts I understand, going to rehab for it. But alcohol, they should be able to prescribe a benzo and if the person actually wants to stop, let them do it at home. Especially if they have loved ones supporting them. If not, then yeah medical detox.

      try to quit but keep some on hand symptoms get to harsh take a sip. hands shaking ain't necessarily DTs it could be to much ammonia in blood . its where your liver cant handle the amount of drink you intake,so it filters less leading to more ammonia in blood ,leading to shakes.

    So I don't know if you will ever see this, but I have had a Roux-EN-Y gastric bypass and this means that alcohol affects us very differently than most people and our timeline is drastically different. I was wondering if you are familiar with how this affects us differently? At this point after 20 years, I get the uncontrollable shakes about a day and a half after drinking and last for about 3 days. Then well currently where I am now I haven't slept for 4 days. I've went down to one or two tall boys a day when I'm not desperate just so that I can finally try to get a little bit of sleep. Inpatient rehab is not an option but I've seriously considered making my own RUclips video for withdrawal for how we are different.

    I drink a couple of pints of lager and a small quarter size bottle of vodka every day. I find that I sweat in bed within an hour of my last drink. I have to stop . Am I likely to suffer long or bad when I compare myself to a person I know who drinks a full litre. Basically Im trying to guage just how bad its going to get if i stop now . Can you anybody advice with experience? Im hoping my small bottle of vodka per day wont be too hard to stop. Im genuinely asking an answer, I weigh 12 stones 57 years old and have been doing it for 2 years

      29 years old. i drank between 350ml and 700ml almost every day since i was 19. before that i used to drink smaller quantities like 200ml , i started drinking at 16. im 2 months sober at the moment. it started to break my body down. i just drank until i blacked out. sometimes i would start drinking at let's say a monday and would not regain conscientiousness till wednsdsay or thursday. poof! 2 days erased from my memories. if you keep drinking, the quantities will become larger over time because you won't be satisfied anymore . i went to detox for 2 weeks and was got valium for the withdrawel. it can be hard for some people but untill now it has been relatively easy for me to stay sober. i also smoked 10 joints a day and i quit that too at the same time. don't try it without proffesional help though. a detox will increase your chances at actually staying sober wich is the hardest part. sorry for my english, not a native speaker. quit while it's till "easy".

    I was drinking around 4 drinks + a night for around 3 years. I stopped a month ago but I’m having odd muscle spasms/twitching. I went to an urgent care and they did blood work and said everything looked ok and to give it more time. Please let me get through this 😩

      Just like Benzodiazepines, same receptors GABA A&B. So whatever post acute symptoms you feel are similar to benzos, which include muscle spasms, tremors, etc.

      you aint but your thinking is , you have to choices life or death, death if you drink life if you stop or taper down. no one is saying dont drink but do you really have to drink every day? stay sober and drink a few on friday or saturday. sober up sunday and go to work monday till friday comes again .stay sober for 6 days get ripped on 7th and redo or cut down. drinking every day aint the way drink every other day then every 3 days . change and grapple what haves gotten hold of you.

      @@pandaberserk3390horrible advice, for most alcoholic’s its no way or all the way. It could also be delirium tremens instead of a heart attack. I had something i was convinced of was a heart attack twice. Happens to me when i don’t drink for 2-3 days. Turned out to be delirium tremens. I drank around half a liter of whiskey every other day for more than 10 years. Mostly 4-5 days a week. Im 2 months sober now after i went to a detox center. They gave me Valium to prevent the delirium. It’s possible if you really want to quit but if you’re drinking for as long as i have you need to be totally abstinent from alcohol or you will relapse. Also don’t try to use less, that will only trigger to go drink more. Go to a detox and go could turkey. You will not only sober up but also learn to stay sober, which is the hard part.
