She probably just realised that she was his superior in every facet of existence and he was utterly devoid of anything that would make her life better.
No,this is not a good thing! That’s more of a reason to take Travis bickle’s side. Something lots of people refused to understand about the scene is that it wasn’t possible to look up on the Internet, how to attract girls on where to take girls out on a date in the 70s you had to learn from experience what to do and not to do with the girl especially out on a date.
50 years later you cant even get a date unless your an 8 or above. And you'll get ghosted for absolutely no reason. I wish i was a young man in Travis time, he doesnt know how good he had it
I love how the arc of this subplot is that Travis realizes that the Betsy he's madly in love with is an idolized creation he's made to satisfy both his ego and his loneliness. She's not all perfect and all loving in the real world. She's not his creation, she's a human being who he disrespected. Dealing with the fact he's not in control of her like he is in his fantasies devastates him. Travis is NOT a 'good person', nor is he misunderstood. He's a creepy guy. His potential for salvation comes from the fact that deep down, he has a human heart, unlike Sport or 'The Ol' Bastard'. Travis hurt 'the right people' in the eye of the city. Even Betsy contemplated giving him another chance in light of his vigilante glory. What no-one ever finds out is that Travis just wanted to hurt 'someone', regardless of who they were by this point and found a moral loophole to do so. If anything, the horror of the movie is that Travis slipped through the cracks to the point the upstate beauty queen he took to a porno theater was second guessing herself.
Lmao people agreeing with Travis not realizing hes not a protagonist but a cautionary character. Hes basically an incel or school shooter type of person who is filled with loneliness and inner turmoil. He desperately seeks love and connection and when it is rejected from him he lashes out.
Well he's a byproduct of the military industrial complex. Most likely drafted into the Vietnam War. Of course he's going to feel displaced in "society" and can't fallow any social norms.
watch the full movie. his character evolves. he finds purpose and ultimately redemption. it is a wonderful piece of art. and travis is a very real and relatable character for many young men
I simply move on a woman is not top priority for me but I somewhat think I understand it's the rejection and trying to redeem himself but she didn't have to return his call at least he got that at first.
I do fancy myself a ladies man no matter what anyone says. She should've given him a second chance. The only reason I can see her not giving him another chance is because he can't afford to take her anyplace fancier than a porn film since he lives on a fucking taxi driver salary but she was completely wrong for ignoring his apologies and the flowers that he fucking sends her and not accepting his offer to take her other places except he can't afford take her where she wants to fucking go.
Ive been reading through these comments wondering where the red flag guy is, wow. Women want to be treated with respect, thats important to all of us. Men arent entitled to women or their attention and im surpised at how many men in the comments just gloss over Travis' date location or his harassment of Betsy.
See if you look at compassionately, Travis isn't wrong cause he didn't know it is inappropriate for him to take her there on date may be because there's something wrong with him or may be he is kind of insane, but that doesn't mean Betsy was wrong! She was absolutely correct to reject him, he pushing her after that and being loud and abusive verbally wasn't good, he was hurt! But even if you are hurt other person has right to reject you you got to accept that gracefully! Nobody taught him that! He is kind person but doesn't know way and manners! It's your fault if you don't know, learn them and don't blame a girl if she rejects you cause you are uncivilized!
Half of what you said is right and half of what you said is wrong 😑. She’s wrong to reject him and ignore him because yeah I wouldn’t blame her for walking out of a porn film but Travis offered to take her to other places and she chose to ignore him and she ignored him when he did everything he could to make up for taking her to a porn 🎥:film by sending her lots of flowers 💐 and she probably threw them away. How was he supposed to know what to do with a girl ahead of time or where to take her on a date 📅 do you think it was easy to learn that stuff back in the 70s?
@@sagatuppercut2960 No I wouldn't, but women still never give a man a chance at redemption when he makes a mistake, and it doesn't have to be a major mistake either.
So many sad incels in the comments. Things will get better for you the day you stop generalising women, my friends. Also, Travis was definitely a weirdo for taking her to a porno theater. Surely you all realise that.
That's the whole point of the movie, he's been alone for so long he doesn't understand why he's basically an incel. Him taking Betsy to the pornography theatre because he thought it was normal. His perception of society is lackluster.
So weird seeing this as an adult now understanding how unhinged and unreasonable Travis is. As a child I thought: main character, Robert De Niro doing De Niro acting, curley hair guy annoying and security service guy genuinely offering him a job. Wow how emotional maturity changes your perspective...
bro is right about women...one mistake and they forgot everything you ever done of them...like man i was stupid I'm sorry please fucking one more chance but nah it's over because of one mistake damn man life is hard
Love how some people subconsciously ignore subtle psychological nuances of this film and simply calls it an "incel film". It also appears that some people embrace it as such. How sad.
Thanks for saying this. Being chronically online has rotten people's fucking brains. Travis is obviously in the wrong here and Betsy has every right to cut contact, but pigeonholing him as an "incel" really ruins the movie and the character for me. Anyone who does or say anything unacceptable is an incel or a virgin or a pussy or some other meaningless BS.
@andrewkomaniecki6553 sitting through this whole film deciding whether the protagonist in the film is incel or not contributes nothing positive to appreciating this movie for what it is. And even if you think that this is a poorly made movie, the protagonist being incel shouldn't do anything with your judgment (besides your personal preference) as a whole.
Essentially, I just think that it's absurd for people to like or dislike this movie solely for the fact that the main character is incel. It's such an unnecessary hyperfixation.
Scorsese likes making a film with troubled protagonists. But he doesn't do this to make a moral assessment on these characters. Instead, he does this because these people are still part of our society at the end of the day, and because there's something uniquely human about these people that makes them worth portraying.
What gets me is Betsy could have refused point blank to go in the movie theatre and demanded somewhere else but she allows the mistake to play out before her eyes
@@nickgold8534 Isn't that what you meant by "incel"? There's nothing wrong with being involuntarily celibate, there is something wrong with thinking that Travis was in the right in this scene

Sure, he was different, but that was the novelty of his social ineptitude and gaucheness, but the date made her realise that that was who he was, not some charming quirk. She probably just realised that she was his superior in every facet of existence and he was utterly devoid of anything that would make her life better.
Because he’s seen other couples go to the movie.
@@hannotnyou’re completely wrong 😑.
The first scene, when he's on the phone, is in the lobby of the Ed Sullivan Theater.
Relatable bro
Seems relatable to me.
Good old times when internet and dating apps didn't exist
No,this is not a good thing! That’s more of a reason to take Travis bickle’s side. Something lots of people refused to understand about the scene is that it wasn’t possible to look up on the Internet, how to attract girls on where to take girls out on a date in the 70s you had to learn from experience what to do and not to do with the girl especially out on a date.
It's fucking true though what he says at the end
What's up with that 1920's phone on the wall. So cool.
50 years later you cant even get a date unless your an 8 or above.
And you'll get ghosted for absolutely no reason.
I wish i was a young man in Travis time, he doesnt know how good he had it
So he wasn't sending the flowers to her he was just ordering them and letting them rot in his apartment. I don't remember that part.
Those damn union women! 👩🚒
Whatever.... my man Travis tried.
How embarrassing for Betsy to have her co-workers see the kind of man she goes for. A caution for ladies to keep creeps out of their life.

Travis is a relatable character and a good role model. People like who talk trash about are probably snowflakes.
watch the full movie. his character evolves. he finds purpose and ultimately redemption. it is a wonderful piece of art. and travis is a very real and relatable character for many young men

That's why he's right, and she's wrong. She's should've given him a second chance. She should've returned his call and gave him another chance.
@@CTladiesmanwhy does someone who calls himself a ladiesman have the worst fucking takes imaginable? honestly? is this some sort of ironic joke

So true about women, in spite of all the beautiful things about them, they can be completely unforgiving and unfair.
Unfair? He took her to a porno theatre ffs.😂

Well, this particular woman was really offended. Would you take a woman to an X rated theater on a first date?

@@sagatuppercut2960 No I wouldn't, but women still never give a man a chance at redemption when he makes a mistake, and it doesn't have to be a major mistake either.

So many sad incels in the comments. Things will get better for you the day you stop generalising women, my friends. Also, Travis was definitely a weirdo for taking her to a porno theater. Surely you all realise that.

So weird seeing this as an adult now understanding how unhinged and unreasonable Travis is. Love how some people subconsciously ignore subtle psychological nuances of this film and simply calls it an "incel film". It also appears that some people embrace it as such. How sad.
How's it not an incel film? Could you explain it to me?
