Great video!! quick trick....use a strong bar magnet to pull the shims up and out!Im trying to figure out why my 2002 F650gs makes popping sounds outta the intake when I get on the throttle. adjusted my valves properly to spec, new spark plug, fresh fuel, new aircleaner, cleaned throttle body, gasket looks decent on it ??? Bike runs well otherwise and idles steady at 1500 no other issues, just noise out of the intake..bike has 13 k! and help is appreciated!
I think I found the solution to your problem, go to faq.f650.com/FAQs/StrangeNoises.htm#Noise%20List to read about it, I copied and pasted part of the article below for you to read: "a loud popping from the front of the bike. Possibly Blown Exhaust Gaskets. Recently went to replace gasket where header pipe meets cylinder head. After pulling left header pipe I found culprit of noise, blown out header pipe to collector gasket. This was a corrugated sleeve that failed under the clamp. Replacement gasket is no longer corrugated. Added bonus was the commonly reported backfiring problem, I thought I had to live with, is now completely gone"
@@mrsimpleesarcastik3494 My situation with my bike is the same as with your bike! I bought a 2001 F650GS Dakar with only 19 000 k, bike was also standing for a long time but after some work it is going like a dream, it is obvious that the bike was not always treated very well but it looks like everything is fixed now, you're not going to believe it but after a proper service and installing a racing air filter I'm getting 27 km per litre on my daily commute to work and back. I really hope that you get your problem sorted out. Let me know if you have any other questions. cornelisweyers@yahoo.com

Watch the video from 17:13, the markers on the gears needs to be in a straight line.
