as a huge fan of irem (especially r-type), this game is the best vertically scrolling shoot 'em up i've seen and the soundtrack in this game was kick ass.
One of the most goddamn stressing arcade game ever made, though I have to admit everything in this game is completely cool and original and the bosses are very creative. oh, if only this game was not *that* hard (at least Irem had mercy with Dragon Breed and X-Multiply) I don't think anyone has ever completed the penalty zone legitimally
As I understand it, the first five levels are actually simulations and after that the real game starts. As a curious fact, supposedly the Image Fight games are located in the same universe as R-Type, in fact the ship we control is a Fighter (the same R-Type ships), specifically from the OF series. And it has even been theorized that the aliens attacking humanity are actually a Bydo life form.
I've got this on NES and PS1 (coupled with X-Multiply, a very expensive compilation I was lucky to get for around $50 when it goes for triple that on Ebay, found it in a game shop in San Antonio, left it there, someone else from a forum I visit picked it up for me), quite a nice, but as usual, tough shmup from Irem.
Great game. Difficult, but good. As good as the other shmups they did. I always die at the 7 minutes boss who fires all those blue multidirectional lasers.
Ugh... _THAT_ boss. To think that both it *(N-Mcl001 Michael)* and the stage in which it resides have since been revived in R-Type Final 2. (Albeit in a horizontal orientation.)

I defiantly agree, this game proved Irem could make an awesome vertical shooter just as good as there horizontal scrollers.
PC Engine shmups are way better than this shrill trash.

I did, a long time ago.
The Nes version is way easier thankfully
Image Fight and Life Force
They were always my favorites
Great memories!! 👍👍👍
I remember this crazy gem from the 80's! Never could clear it though, man was it tough...
Memories... Danke und GG Schlauchi!
The music sound badass
Wicked video, may have to power up my ps1 and have a play on this now,
12:18 The ‘not a drill’ meme in the 80’s.
Wow, great job. I could never get past the 3rd boss.

I remember seeing something like that it is part of the lore, so yea basically the first few batches of OF series
So technically, Image Flight is a prequel to R-Type Series, as the reason why Humanity created Bydo to fight any certai future Alien Threat.

I've only played the demo of R-Type final 2. Love the R-Type games though, so i will buy it at some point.
Game's not endless, goes to Loop 2. This game must be finished twice.
Yeah the game has a 2nd loop that should be done for a full end of the game.
The full end is... more tragic....
The hero's craft blows up in their face.
Things the Japanese like that I'll never comprehend:
1. Spoiled beans
2. Tentacle porn
3. Image Fight
Why is the explosion shape like Mickey Mouse? XDDDDD
Is that the Yamaha FM synth I hear??
Nice
Correction for the description but the game actually ends after the second loop (in a hilarious "fuck you" kind of way no less).
Harder than R-Type!
Damn, really? I heard R-Type is pretty hard.
@@masterlee1988 R Type is a breeze compared to this. Even with heavy use of save states, this is beyond the pale.
@@bigbabatunde1218 Ah, I see. Thanks for telling me this.
This is an AI playing. Or a god.
Some people would say tool assist.
beated the shit out of this on a older version of mame with some save states only at the final stage...
Looks more like sprites.
It's a me
The poor mans Musha lol.
This predates Musha, Musha is the poor mans Image Fight. This game also inspired Treasure's Radiant Silvergun.

you used cheat
Looks decent. Sounds terrible. Plays worse.
Nice
