This Irem classic follows in the footsteps of R-Type, but sets itself apart with its creative gameplay innovations and twisted visuals. It's gross, it's well put together, and it's well worth the time of any 80s arcade shooter fan. Happy Halloween!
Gross? Well the story is that it's an alien invasion inside a woman's body, so you get shrunk down and put inside her to ward off the aliens. That's what I've heard numerous times about this games story.
Seriously this is perfect grainy bio-organic gross levels and awesome sound and music. I also cant believe I just got this since its made by fuckin IREM after all
@@worsethanhitlerpt.2539 I wanna make an animated adaptation of this game, but with a few differences.... * The story takes place inside of a guy (looking similar to Albatross from Rolling Thunder, Ken Masters, or Hellhound from Bloodstorm) * The queen is now a king, or commander, looking like one of those Evil Overlord characters from '00s cartoons, but anime-style. * X-002 is lead by a girl, who's actually the girlfriend of the (male) space colonist. X-002 is an all-girl trio, similar to Melissa McCarthy's Ghostbusters, but BETTER.
Also, do not die on the boss on stage 4, it has a nasty checkpoint. When you get on your next life, you'll be just before it, no powerups to be had, the default pea shooter is the only thing you'll have. There's a couple bad checkpoints in stage 4 alone, but this is the games nastiest one. On the flipside, the last stage has no checkpoints, at all, and it's quite long.
Theres a trick to beat the 4th boss without power ups. Place the ship on the upper left corner of the screen and stay there. You'll dodge everything the boss throws at you until it dies.
Love the graphics also the sound FX are very Sci-fi and trippy. The music is unique and very subdued basicly the game is perfect except it dont play as good as RType
Very expensive game online, but I managed to find this PS1 Irem compilation (with Image Fight) a few years back in San Antonio for $50. I didn't pick it up right away, but someone from a forum I frequent did for me, and with $7 for tax and shipping, $57 later, I had my hands on a compilation I used to joke I'd never be able to afford. Whoops!
Very cool. Can also see a lot of Dragon Breed in the design choices with the satellites blocking shots and doing damage to enemies, though I guess they were developed by Irem in the same year.
Irem were a bit more seasoned with shmups than Atlus was, as Irem already had a few under their belt at this point. Blazeon was good, but by no means in the class of an Irem, a Toaplan, a Taito, or a Konami.
The tentacle thing would later show up in Xexex from Konami. The thing acts like the Force Pod from R-Type too, though both games tentacles have wider range of destruction.
I recalled this game was good, but not *this* good! The organic stages, the creepy enemies (is the first phase of the final boss Baphomet?), the peculiar main weapon... I'll have to replay this for sure. Are the PS1 and Saturn versions just straight ports, or do they add something compared to the original?
Does anyone remember the name of a game similar to Super R-Type where in a city scene a big alien-like face appears between the buildings? I don't remember if it's nes or snes
@@NintendoComplete Saturn version has some issues but is arguably closer to the arcade than the PS1. I dislike both ports for small issues, but either is fine unless you are a die hard.
Even worse, it's a woman (which I am even if I'm enby.) And considering I like the idea of Fantastic Voyage plots done to attractive guys (I'm a weirdo)...

NintendoComplete You just covered one of my favorites, Alex. And happy fucking Halloween to YOU as well. I you get spooked

@@Bloodreign1 The fact that it's a woman is even more gross. If it were done to a guy, I wouldn't mind.
That`s even better and more mysterious than R-Type and Gradius!
Amazing gameplay! Congratulations NintendoComplete!
いつもクリーチャーやステージのグロさに気を取られるけどBGMもめっちゃカッコいいな
Where has this been all my life?

@@YuukiTakemoto1996The cliffhanger is absent.
Glad it~ this game re-release on PS4~
Hope it plane available in R-type final 2~

+Bloodreign1 Wow, that's really nice find!
Thank you, to this day I still can't believe I have a compilation that seemed impossible then, and is just as, or even more expensive online now.
Very cool. Can also see a lot of Dragon Breed in the design choices with the satellites blocking shots and doing damage to enemies, though I guess they were developed by Irem in the same year.
Game is so freaking tough even when you do the weapons cheat!
What is the strategy with the second form of the final boss?
ATLUS Blaze On is technicaly the best shmup but this is also great

This game reminds me of Lifeforce/Salamander.
Because it WAS influenced by Lifeforce/Salamander.
The tentacle thing would later show up in Xexex from Konami. The thing acts like the Force Pod from R-Type too, though both games tentacles have wider range of destruction.
+Bloodreign1 I think it was in R Type Delta as well, if memory serves. Maybe Leo? Delta sounds right though.
I'd say R-Type Final, it had 101 ships to unlock and use.

+Davide Mascolo I think they're exactly the same except for the status bar. In this one you can move it so it doesn't block the playfield
They did add something, Image Fight, on the same disc, both straight ports though.
Does anyone remember the name of a game similar to Super R-Type where in a city scene a big alien-like face appears between the buildings? I don't remember if it's nes or snes
Its very much like r-type and I like that! Is this PS1 only or is there an port elsewhere? I’m interested in finding this now
+Ryuujin1078 It was an arcade game, but it also got ported to the Saturn
@@NintendoComplete Saturn version has some issues but is arguably closer to the arcade than the PS1. I dislike both ports for small issues, but either is fine unless you are a die hard.
Didnt even know this had a PS1 port
If the inside of your body looks like this, it might be time to call it quits.
I know this guy has monsters and robots and gross faces built into his organs fuckin gnarly.
Especially if you're a woman!!!
Even worse, it's a woman (which I am even if I'm enby.) And considering I like the idea of Fantastic Voyage plots done to attractive guys (I'm a weirdo)...
this looks and sounds like a genesis game!
#PSX
I can’t believe this was on ps1 feels like a genesis game
It was first on Arcade.
with invulnerability cheat activated, it's so easy
It also makes the game less fun, because you didn't work to beat the game the correct way.
2spoopy4me
ok
Sorry for the late reply! I almost forgot about my request for X-Multiply! I didn't even know this was ported to PS1!
Saturn as well, along with Image Fight on the same compilation.
