When I was in reserves my sergeant told me that the best area to shoot is from the shoulders down to the belt. That way even though there was no kill it takes 4 others to carry him of the battlefield.
anyone else hate the amount of people calling themselves snipers on public servers not providing any support just missing a shit ton of shots to kill people, its fucking annoying
rancorusia however in arma 3 the Wipeout (not sure about CSAT AND AAF jets) is equipped with surface to air, dumb fire, and air to air missiles, making bombs less viable unless bombing heavily entrenched infantry positions, which is usually dealt with artillery
Spencer Kelly the wipeout is air to surface and air to air, not surface to air. anything the wipeout fires is air to surface or air to air because it's a jet and it's equipped with those thingy things.
It is almost impossible to camp without being spotted in arms 3. The landscape, grass and bushes do not render. I mean even though i have the terrain rendering at its highest setting, and the object quality as well, grass and bushes seize to exist at 50 meters or further away from the player. Is this an Arma imperfection or is it something I can fix or download a script for? Does anyone has a solution?
Haidar Ghazal I guess you have trouble with your graphic card. Rendering at distance is defined by "distance draw" setting, which you can adjust in the options menu. If you put it at max it will exploit your cpu and gpu maximally, but also draw everything to a maximal visible distance. Also, I don't have the same problem because I already set the above-mentioned setting to max.
you can increase your foliage, but you can't to a certain extent. and in multilayer it's better to turn it down for extra fps and so you can see the enemy's easier
Sniper teams are generally a two man job, shooter and spotter. They both do as Qardo says, but if a target does present itself for the shooter to take out the spotter helps him take the guy out by giving him the range and other details needed to make the shot.
What he meant is that the sniper doesn't have to shoot in order to cost a lot of damage. Snipers doesn't have to take priority targets if the squad can take it them either dead or hostage. The only thing I find for a sniper to use bullets is if the ground team in pin down or if the mission is by two scouts.
As much as i admire this series of "Arma 3 Guides", I gotta speak out against the Dylyecxi's advise of engaging Aircrafts from the Sides or the back. The reasons for that are simple: a) Aircrafts are not really armored, therefore it doesn't matter where the missile will hit b) shooting a missile at a target heading in your direction will basically decreade the -travel-time of said missile (->short reaction time for the pilot) a target heading away from you will subtract the target speed from the missile speed (->longer reaction timing) c) your missle is heat-seeking and will go for the "next best target" not for the "prettiest around". Therefore: if the aircraft is facing you and pops the flares to its back the next best heat signature still remains the aircraft. Even if the missle goes for the flares,it will be more beneficial if the arc is behind your target instead of in front of it. At least that is my impression after launching god knows how many missles in KotH.
+Clash Cornholio it has to do with how missiles achieve and follow a lock, and their maneuverability. any missile that seeks, whether it's active or passive, has a specific FoV for it's tracking. if a missile is fired towards an aircraft heading directly at it and the pilot dodges it, the missile WILL lose the lock, and will no longer be useful, where one fired from behind will be less likely to lose lock since it will be able to react quicker and keep it's target in it's FoV
+Thomas Crowton Well. I never saw any Pilot (in Arma) being able to doge a front on missile, but plenty loosing the missiles behind them with flares. Soo my argument still remains the same. Also i can only imagine the FoV to become a problem if that missle gets so close that its basically already passed its target, or if id would encounter an unbelieably manouverable plane. I honestly cant even imagine any plane that may keep up with the manouverability of a missle due to the huge difference in mass and inertia. It seems to me as if you had to fool physics altogether to achieve a loss of lock due to FoV. But I'm not a real-world expert on this matter, and merely wanted to put my own impressions and experiances from Arma to discussion, as it is quite the opposite of what Dslyecxi mentioned to disussion.
Clash Cornholio yeah, im not dismissing your argument. and yeah, managing to dodge a head on missile would be difficult. my point was that if you DID manage to dodge it, you nearly immediately break it's lock, vs a missile that will continue to track you, if you manage to miss it from behind.
it's really helpful if you rely it back to the team although it depends on what position you are in, If you are the sniper get your spotter to keep track of range, number of enemies and locations/patrol paths.
I disagree that launch AA from side of aircraft advise. missiles can only turn so much due to it's shape and thrust. if pilot dramatically speed up as missile approach the aircraft from the aircraft's 9 or 3 o clock, aircraft can easily dodge the missile especially when done with flares. 2ndly, it's easier to hide behind obstables if pilot see missile comeing on the radar. if you are facing the missile, or missile is coming from your rear, you cannot do much about it other than spraying flares.
I would love to join a group of players like you guys, and be a scout. Just being a sniper in a military sim game would be amazing. The only problem is I'm currently in college with a lot of work on my hands and don't want to join for a week then be an ass and have to leave due to exams/homework.
One thing that i do with aircraft that have manual flares is that i bait them to use their flares before i fire by just locking on and not shooting and when the flares are used that's when i take the shot
I suspect the licensing costs may be part of the issue, but also research and accurate modelling costs may play a part as well. This is possibly the primary reason they set their sim in a fictional future time. But that may not be the whole issue, having a fictional future setting allows for both some cool cutting edge weapons and gear as well as getting the game away from sensitive political aspects that might arise from setting the game in a contemporary location within contemporary politics.
So I wasnt wrong! I keep telling in some servers when Im playing a sniper/scout role that I wont take shots unless its needed. I rather just tell my team mates where the enemy is located, where they are going and how many of them are. I usually only take shots which will help my team significantly, that means shooting a enemy behind my team mates which they cant see or find but I can see him.
You know on one of the shots it followed the bullet with the camera like in Sniper Elite V2 (I hope you know what that is lol) How do you do that? Is it because it is one of the developers tools or is a camera trick? Anyway awesome video and some things I didn't know, keep up the amazing work! :D
I understand the scouting role but wouldn't a dedicated officer be assigned to bring in CAS or artillery fire from weapons above the units organic (mortar?) artillery support?
I think the issue here is that lockon is the same button as zoom, causing you to zoom and think your not locking on. Try holding right mouse and let go when the box appears.
Hey man. Is there wind that influences the bullet in arma3? I had that feeling the other day in a domination mission where i tried to snipe AI from about 900 Meters. I felt like the bullet would hit a tiny bit right from where i aimed.
Everyone who says holding your breath steadys your hand but it really slows your heart rate and the scope looks like it stops moving and when you shoot you slowly breath out
Would be kind of silly if the charged for just different model aircraft. Just due to the amount of modded content. Although if an official CSAT and NATO is/will be released in a patch, not sure if they've said anything but it would probably be kept behind closed doors until release.
Dslyecxi; just a question but, You say that the tank's most armored location is it's front. So why don't they make tanks with armor on the sides, back, and top?
I've watched a lot of your videos, but I've never seen one from the pov of a sniper team. Is that because ShackTac generally avoids using snipers in missions? Or do you just prefer flying and infantry gameplay to stealthy recon?
Heres a question for you Dslyecxi, In Arma 3, if you fire a sniper at the same time as a mortar hits the enemy, does the AI know its being hit by sniper fire an run?
Looking back at this video now and looking further back what i was doing as the observer in our clan wars back in OFP and ArmA 1-2i seem to have done everything right.....i was talking more than shooting....i made my shots count....my teammates killed what i spotted for them....after having multiple players shit their pants because they got so close to me but still got killed they started calling me bush.
Even if that's what the viewers want. He simply doesn't have to make sniper videos. He already did but his style is more of a guerilla type. I don't think anybody would want to watch a sniper who's hiding still waiting patiently.. Unless if you are me. I don't mind
Btw if a helicopter is fly straight at you but don't realize let em get close them pop u n put one in their cockpit from my experience that's the best way to hit em even if they pop flares or try to turn they're not dodging it
Probably not going to be read anymore.....i keyholed a lot during our clanwars back in the day. Remember those 2 story barns where you could go up either side and there was this 20cm hole on every side?
@@Enforcer_WJDE yeah man! I ended up finding one of the best spots on a malden koth server. I never got detected, 650m from town centre, so ideal range for suppressed mar 10.
JustinRM well. if you have played enough youl be able to make quite an accurate guess. or if you're good enough you can pinpoint wherever what you want to shoot at is on the map (M) and put a waypoint on it. tell the distance that way
Hello And without a map? I'm not talking about experience. Just a way to actually hit the targets without taking too much time, since 5 seconds can make a difference.
JustinRM have a spotter right next to you. ok now if 5 seconds can make a difference that stops you from doing those things. what you're trying to blow up obviously isnt that far away. meaning you can easily just guess it. its not that hard to just guess the distance.

ARMA 3 doesn't have a default multiplayer mode. Invade and Annex is a player created mission that a lot of communities use to recruit people. If you want to get the most out of ARMA, I would suggest you join a community or outfit. Without one, ARMA 3 can be relatively boring when you're stuck with AI or public servers. (The reason I say public servers is because you get those CoD kiddies in there who think they can 360 no scope a tank. Not the mention hackers...)

Why does every Military sim have HOLD-BREATH controls? In real life snipers use tactical breathing, which they can do indefinitely!
A dedicated officer wouldn't be trained to infiltrate into enemy territory and operate independently.
