Thanks Dslyecxi, I'm very happy to see this video. I've been quite frustrated in the past playing with less organized players, telling them we're going to "bound forward" or "break contact" without them really understanding what that means.
Most players don't understand real life concepts of modern warfare, and they play games to live out a fantasy of what they see in the movies. I'd be surprised if even a minority of players in ARMA really understand such things. Stuff like this is good to know, but I wouldn't count on the other folks in a server playing a pick-up game to "get it"... me and my friends often exploit that to our advantage :)
I would love to see more of how you organize and move your squads infantry style! I wanna see it in "Kavala" as urban CQC first person is my favorite. I could never be in the Military, but I like to play Arma seriously. So hearing all of the vernacular, seeing how you call things out, and get people moving...is so immensely helpful for someone like me. I appreciate the time you put into all of your vids, If I could be a Patreon I would. I love Arma, I love your Videos, keep it up man.
4:58 I've watched this video a lot of times before, but I just now caught this part where you say it's very important for the moving team to watch their flanks!! This was something that had always been on my mind, and I mean for a loooong time, that when moving forward with a static point-source cover team they could not POSSIBLY "cover" or "save" you when moving if there were enemies that appeared hard on your sides or something in that manner because they could just as well be in cover from the covering team, lel. I heard also earlier in the video that "everybody needs to understand the GEOMETRY of the bound" which I think right here is really where you touch upon that. Would you say that if the moving team does take flanking fire that they should most likely then get cover and return fire for the former covering team to then go, flank? o.O I love this stuff Thank you so much for these videos
"Well I'm not afraid, as long as you keep your head down. Shoot, communicate, move, a-ha, you should make it out in one piece." Love the reference (if it was intentional)!
I wish I could be apart of actual groups/Ops like this... All the arma 3 servers are nothing like this, or any other of dslyecxis videos for that matter. Thanks for the great video
Love your work Dslyecxi, keep doing what your doing. :) I hope you plan to do something with the ZEUS dlc for Arma 3 soon. I am excited to see what you have in store for us.
***** I mean RL tactics won't work 90% of the time in video games. That even goes for Arma series. Still you will often see players trying to be tacticool and all that without taking the reality of video game mechanics into account.
***** Might occasionally. Without mods, the aimbot NPCs will entirely ignore suppression, and will gladly stand out in the open in order to cut down the advancing team before the covering one can drop them.
EnDSchultz1 I always see NPC as the king of rural and player the king of urban settings, at least that's what I learnt when I panicked in the middle of nowhere.
One of my biggest questions in all this, is, how the hell did those guys drop to their sides and open fire so quickly when they got shot at? I know how to get into that position but it involves going prone and then doing it, whereas they just dropped from the standing position to the sideward laying down position.
So if it's just a two man team, you apply the same basic principals? I'm assuming it's the same process for a tactical withdrawal, except obviously you run away from contact.
Buddy team bounding works under the same basic principals, yes. Similar movements for displacement as well. Displacing has multiple ways to go about it depending on the situation, as well.
It's just called "break contact" it's a battle drill and when doing so yes you use the same basic idea but move backwards or backwards to the flanks . Use smoke or cover for help when bounding back .
Many years ago when i was a cadet, we used 'pepper potting' specifically for versions of this where the moving elements are single people. Sometimes it would be just the buddy team version, and sometimes it would be a larger unit moving as a blob: each individual would advance until they had fresh ground to cover, then wait as others moved up past them, and advance again when they're at the back of the blob, all on their own initiative. It was used where you might expect single enemies popping up at close range, like checking a mostly wiped-out enemy position. The larger, more synchronised versions were just called ' attacks', e.g. a 'section attack' where fire teams are the elements, a 'platoon attack' where sections are the elements. We'd bound towards the enemy then charge the last bit as one. I remember a lot of shouting of 'alpha section prepare to move', 'alpha section move'... and shouting 'bang!' a lot because we'd only been issued 5 blanks for the whole night...
I am suddenly having bad memories of Arma 2's AI, which would default its squad based movement to this whenever it had been engaged in combat. Even after combat ends, it continues to move this way indefinitely by default unless specifically scripted not to, which is kind of ass.
Arma looks like so much fun and i have bought it when it was in beta, but the thing is i cant get into it. Cant find anything but altis life servers and the single player is shit, just like most community missions. HELP!
locko1997 They should finally let us "Filter out" some selected keywords like dayz, life, etc. It's not something hard to implement but BI is as always annoying at times.
Join a clan or group that specializes in a game type favorable to you. Such as Shacktac. Apply for that group, and learn to do things as they do. Then just sit back and follow the events and play when they play. Actually, this is a good method to use on any online game that lacks players. Just find a group where everyone plays a certain type of game at certain times when everyone is available to play at once.

Oh yes. Fundamental indeed. Completely defeats the Tactical Blob I tend to find myself in xD
oh no, i've been spotted! *runs*
Spotted again!
how is this possible?! surrounded?!
WrathzRevenge GOOD! Now we can fire in ALL directions !
Ah youtube removed my account, trying to censor The Party!

I've been waiting a long time for you to make this video.
Thank you man!, this is just the thing i was hoping you would do when i became a Patreon! =)
Really cool to see your videos in the actual game
Great video! Very insightful and hope to see your upcoming videos!
Thanks for the video it explained the concept of bounding overwatch to me and my friends very well.
looking forward to more infantry tactic videos dslyecxi :)
In the USMC, we call this buddy/fireteam rushes. We push towards the enemy, and through them until they are all eliminated.
Arma 3 is almost 8 years old and still looks clean as shit.
Explained well Dslyecxi..........it becomes second nature for a grunt.
I wish I could be apart of actual groups/Ops like this... All the arma 3 servers are nothing like this, or any other of dslyecxis videos for that matter.
Thanks for
the great video
Thats great, we just released a Buddy Teamwork guide.
Love your work Dslyecxi, keep doing what your doing. :) I hope you plan to do something with the ZEUS dlc for Arma 3 soon. I am excited to see what you have in store for us.
Nice one, should be in the playlist of every decent group.
In France we call it "formation tiroir" !
Greatly explained!
In the US Army we call it bounding/battle team bounding. Very useful tactic to know and kinda dangerous lol
Great Video, thanks
OMG YES!!! another tutorial
Coooooool!!! More of these.
at 4:23 how did you make that left hand fall
Thank you for all the inf
2:38 also 6:10
i have never seen that place on the map, it looks so epic.
where is it?
I think that is the ported version of ArmA 2's Chernarus map.
Forgive me for asking you Dslyecxi but what is your average frame rate when playing Arma 2? Did you do anything to enhance it? Thank you.
Im not sure if im getting my facts wrong, but in Britain I believe we call this "Pepper potting"
I've heard this from Canadian/NZ/AUS members as well, yeah.
I know it as fire and manoeuvre
James White what about "leap frogging"
Angelo Davis That to
Pepper potting is the original term for this tactic came about from the 95th rifles 1st infantry unit to use this tactic *SWIFT AND BOLD*
Arma series are probably the only shooters were these RL tactics might occasionally work.

that's why you should play TvT
Hey Dslyecxi, when you record the gameplay for these kinds of videos... How often are you using AI, and how often are you using real people?
Thank you for makes Nice guide video!
Can I ask a question? How to apply left shoulder patch? I want to know how to do it.
nice ;3 i like it. i'd love to see more
Out of interest, do you have ST members acting out the other roles in these videos or is it AI?
Always wondered that myself.
AI, humans, inanimate rocks, it makes no difference: all obey the orders of Dslyecxi
Thomas Purnell I just like the thought of him yelling out "Action" and "Cut" and "Back to One" instead of the usual military commands.
Is this the same as fire and move?

I think to do that you do the side stepy thingy the go prone, so what you said you did but in the reversed order.

Gotta love cadet ammo logistics, like getting two mags for a three-day exercise.
good video.
i feel like ive seen this before....or a highlight of bounding overwatch specifically
Also works for sectoids and other alien species and machines.

I don't know if you already plan on this, but the most common mistake I see in fps games is players silloeting themselves on hills and buildings.
Arma looks like so much fun and i have bought it when it was in beta, but the thing is i cant get into it. Cant find anything but altis life servers and the single player is shit, just like most community missions. HELP!
If you're 18 you can join ShackTac, if not, just look up some realism groups to get you into this kind of stuff.
give the zues servers a try
Go on Filter and scroll on gamemode... you should try cooperation, zeus master or zeus coop...

I can hear some background noise. Is someone watching a movie?
There are 3 overwatches
1. This
2. The one from half-life
3. The hero shooter by blizzard
no s*** sherlock haha
@@cringeyidiotterry nope
Majority of people are illiterate, so they only heard of blizzard's game overwatch
@@Deutschland-co7tx yep, you're actually right sir (Dmitriy)
now teach them the differance between cover and concealment and the 3 second rush. lol
Supressive fire is not usefull agains AI tho. So real life tacs sucks often
Aaarrma3
Wanna join ShackTac so bad but you dont except people of my age group shit XD
*accept :P
Ben Dover Using "XD" and poor grammar isn't going to increase your chances of joining them, you know.
barakokula31 I can't anyways
barakokula31 And also you shouldn't be so quick to judge on the grammar I was tired as hell
Ben Dover And I assume you're also tired now, since you don't seem to be able to use a comma or full stop.
I wonder what the Russians call it...Maybe they just yell davai and run and gun like in every video game
