    Ninja Nerds!
    In this lecture Professor Zach Murphy will be teaching you about the neuromuscular junction and go into detail on the process of excitation contraction coupling. During part 2 of this series we talk about resting membrane potential, endplate potential, action potentials, and the release of calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum. We hope you enjoy this lecture and be sure to support us below!

    Great video! Since we all are ninja nerds, another thing: it takes 2 molecules of ACh for each nicotinic receptor. And ACh always binds in the alfa protein of the channel.

    Excellent job. That type 1 nicotinic receptor you mentioned actually has an epsilon subunit rather than a gamma subunit. The gamma subunit is located within the first type of extrajunctional nicotinic receptor.

    • @brendan0083
      @brendan0083 2 года назад +1

      +1 on this, although as always another excellent production! The receptor described in the lecture with a gamma subunit is a fetal nicotinic receptor, which functions slightly differently from the mature receptor. The fetal receptor can proliferate outside of the neuromuscular junction and pop up anywhere on the cell membrane as a result of certain conditions. In addition, they are more sensitive to depolarization and the channel stays open longer. This can be a life-threatening issue in response to certain drugs like for example succinylcholine as massive amounts of potassium can leak into the plasma due to the abnormal kinetics of the channel.
