Amazing. I was hoping I would find this exact episode. I was on the roof that day and am actually in this video for about 3 seconds :) We talked to Dave during commercial just before they went to the Germans.
Hey, Rusty. I am assuming that you are the guy in the video with the ponytail and the white or pink collared shirt over the black t-shirt. Is that right? At any rate, it's pretty awesome that you appeared on LNWDL, and without even trying!
Gotta admit, The Hut guy's joke about being on the subway with the girl was a pretty darn good one. And his deadpan delivery of it was impressive, too.
It's amazing how the name "World Trade Center" had such an amazing, positive ring to it back in the day. Now....the EXACT same three words have such a sad, dark, ominous feeling behind them. 😢
This is so sad yet beautiful. He mentioned the Sears Tower-we thought they would hit it next in 2001. God rest the souls who perished there 13 years later.
As I recall now, it was simply the camera moving for another position when the shot inadvertently showed it over the edge, and Dave saying something like, "watch out," and the audience laughed. While I despise editing out anything that some might seem tasteless, considering how harmless it was when first broadcast, this seemed worth the exception.
The people they interviewed were so fun. The guy had a humorous answer saying he saw the subway with the girl 😂 Lost it when he said he is being snubbed and he is not even there 😭
If you know Santa Clara, the Hut was legendary. Corner bar at the edge of campus. I believe it was closed down but rumor has it a new "Hut" was built. RIP to all who were lost and condolences to all of the family and friends of those who died.

Exactly! The Observation Deck tourist attraction (indoor & outdoors) wouldn’t open until 9:30AM, and then, the attacks occurred between 8:46 and 9:02AM. So, fortunately many tourists were spared. Though, those eating breakfast on Windows On The World in the North Tower were less fortunate.
If the airdate were September 11, then you might have something, but it’s not. It’s September 1. 1988. Thirteen years before. In other words, it means nothing.
. Wow.....no "fencing" of ANY kind to stop some goof from making the (relatively) short toss out over the side of the building and down to the ground down below (0:45) ?? I have a feeling I'm missing something here, but it sure looks like it wouldn't take too much effort for somebody to decide to fling something out over that extended level below, and down the side of the building all the way to the ground below (never mind the fact that it looks like it would take almost NO effort at all to go over that short little railing in front of everybody, and then be able to jump down to that level below, with access to the very edge of the building, before anybody would ever have a chance to be able to stop you)...... .
My childhood.. I miss the Twin Towers.. Yes I went on the roof of the South Tower. Twin Towers was my favorite spot growing up in NYC.
I visited the twin towers myself when I was a little boy and it was fun. I miss those days.
That must being amazing

There was a brief moment when the remote camera either accidentally or deliberately simulated falling from the building. I edited it out.
That was very astute editing. that would have been to sad for most people to see. Letterman was about humor.
