Incredible artist. Mr. Scott Walker. I like the stuff with the brothers but ALL of his solo albums to the end. Intimate, gothic voice. Great bass. So much to say. 🌹🌹🌹
This one really hurts. I don't have much to say at the moment, but the world has lost a visionary, a word painter, and a singer who changed the landscape of baroque pop music and beyond. RIP Sir x
I'm a huge Scott Walker fan too. One of the greatest voices I have ever, ever heard. And yes, Scotts 1-4 are just brilliant. My favorite is Scott 4 as well. Song after song, untouchable. Sad day today, but glad he left that body of work behind for us.
Great words, Dereck, Sir. He touched my very soul and his music will ensure he will always be in my heart. Just gotta keep listening man! And spread that 'velvety' voice far and wide! Much love from the UK.
Great man, fantastic music (from straight pop to pure avant garde creations)! It can make you happy, it can make you cry. But all with pure and good/real feeling and emotion. I will miss him talking and making music! Rest In Peace mr. Scott Engel ✌✌✌
Thank you for this homage to the man and his music. I've been a fan from the very beginning with the Walker Brothers and searched high and low to gather all of his work. I even have a 45 of Scott in his early teens singing "The Living End" and "Paper Doll." I hope to find someone who will cherish this incredible body of work when I face my own "My Death." It comforts me to hear your assessment of his work and what a loss his passing is.
Oh my ... I can't tell you how lovely your tribute for him was very touching for me as my husband wanted me to send cassette tapes to Vietnam ... reviewing.them recently it had to be the most touching for my memories ... Thank for this dear - Hugs -
You’re awesome man, just came to this because I am a SW fan since childhood. I have original vinyl in bad shape since a played them a lot. Even Walker Bros lps. Thanks for posting and I share the loss.
Thank you for your video, kind Sir. I was rather numb on the day when the news broke. I wanted to play the records in chronological order, whenever I had the chance. With the Walker Brothers records from the 60s it all went quite well but with the stuff from "Scott" to "Scott 4", I cracked. Not ashamed to admit that I cried and even sobbed. That this wonderful singer and sonic adventurer is no longer among the living. So sad.
Hello Dereck; Congrat's on your induction. I'm sure your family is very proud. Sorry to hear about Scott Walker. An American who found success In England. Starting in the Routers, continuing thru the Walker Bros, & his solo career. His interpretations of Jacque Brel are legendary. A great talent & a wonderful voice of the 60's & 70's. We will have to carry on. For us The Sun Ain't gonna Shine. Take care. Tina!!!!
So grateful to have someone to remember him with today, thanks for the post - if I had to pick one, the song that will always hit me the most is "sleepwalkers woman" on "climate of hunter" (god, what a cool album name)
Thanks for that! I actually only got turned on to him via the "30th Century Man" documentary, which was shown on IFC or a similar channel about 10 years ago. Been a fan ever since. The word "singular" is way over-used, but actually applies to him. He is totally unique and unlike any other artist.
It looks like you have a great collection of music, I'd love to hang out there with a cold pepsi, and a bologna sandwich!! I grew up from 1951 listening to the best artists..
I felt anger when I heard this morning. I have his solo albums I to IV on LP like you. Even though that part of his career which I prefer was LONG GONE, his passing is TOO SOON!! Your review of Bish Bosch on this channel was how I discovered you on RUclips, Dereck. Stumbled upon during a search for Bish Bosch info. So I thought of you seconds after I heard. I’m annoyed rather than sad. Don’t want him gone.
Scott 4 is my favourite too, since the 90’s when I first heard it. Such a talent with an amazing voice, a great body of work, etc. And seeing his honesty in interviews and how much footage and love there is for the man makes me feel all sorts, but just glad he lasted so long and did so much amazing work. Those records sound so great, it’s good to know he was and still is appreciated. Scott will never leave us, really.
Was cruising through RUclips vids looking for Scott Walker info when I saw your vid. Congrats on your NE R&R Hall of Fame induction. I haven't been back to Nebraska in 20 years. Coincidentally, I had "Climate Of Hunter" cranked up on the day Scott's death was announced, but before I had heard of his passing. What a drag. RIP Scott.
No one traveled a more diverse path in his musical career. When he went over to the avant garde it was almost like Andy Williams changing into Captain Beefheart. I loved all of his stuff.
After listening many times to "Clara" (from The Drift) I've decided Walker was the Ezra Pound of baroque pop. The things that were thought to happen only "in America" happen to Clara Petacci in Mussolini's Italy. This piece should be classed with modern opera. Amazing. As for the early work, I agree with you on Scott 3 and Scott 4, especially "Boy Child."
I’m still very sad about Scott’s passing, there will be no more incredable music from him. Manna from heaven indeed. If you get the chance, check out the interviews Scott did on Jarvis Cocker’s radio show, they are on youtube. The first one is from the time of Bish Bosch and the second is from the time of the BBC Proms when they did an amazing concert of Scott’s songs from ’67 to ’70 - Scott was at that gig in the audience, its on youtube as well and can be downloaded from the net. If you are looking for it and cant find it let me know.
Hi Dereck, yes It is a very sad loss for musicians and music lovers. Scott Walker is part of the soundtrack of the 60ies. Nite Flights what a masterpiece…I will keep The Seventh Seal and Scott 4 as his definitive signature.
My favorite record of his phillips period is scott 3 but i understand you completely regarding to scott 4, almost perfect albums in their own way, lush and dissonant songs
The floodgates are open... Most of our heroes are in the twilight zone, so these sad news will keep on coming. What worries me more is what comes after them?
Incredible artist. Mr. Scott Walker. I like the stuff with the brothers but ALL of his solo albums to the end. Intimate, gothic voice. Great bass. So much to say. 🌹🌹🌹
His album The Drift was one of those rare albums that really shook me to my core. Such a haunted record...
"The Drift" is one of my favorites as well. Chilling. Stopped me in my tracks.
Still listening
I loved his voice!
I totally concur with your assessment. He has been described as the pop singer with the mahogany voice.
im a newly one who likes his music his voice too.. r.i.p. scott engel. fr. philppines
Love Scott so much 💕 heartbroken 💔
He was amazing! His voice was so beautiful.
My favorite will always be Montague Terrace In Blue.
So glad I stumbled across your channel. Subscribed! Insightful video about Scott...thank you.
Thank you sir. I've ben a fan for decades but it was TILT which gave me courage and validated my experimental musical and lyrical impulses. RIP.
This one really hurts. I don't have much to say at the moment, but the world has lost a visionary, a word painter, and a singer who changed the landscape of baroque pop music and beyond. RIP Sir x
(I'm not sure that word painter is the right phrase, but that was how I processed his lyrics and his delivery of them.)
I'm a huge Scott Walker fan too. One of the greatest voices I have ever, ever heard. And yes, Scotts 1-4 are just brilliant. My favorite is Scott 4 as well. Song after song, untouchable.
Sad day today, but glad he left that body of work behind for us.
RIP Scott Walker -- thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Walker flew under my radar, tho I remember The Sun Isn't Going to Shine Anymore from either the radio or American Bandstand back when. Cheers.
Wonderful baritone voice! RIP
still one of my favorite artists.thanks for posting
Thanks for this memorable post Words cannot express how the voice of this man affects people We have his music No Regrets
Bummer...great voice...seemed like a forever teenager...great videos you post
When I heard the news, I was heartbroken too :(. You're the first person I thought when I heard the news.
Great words, Dereck, Sir. He touched my very soul and his music will ensure he will always be in my heart. Just gotta keep listening man! And spread that 'velvety' voice far and wide!
Much love from the UK.
Very late congrats on the recognition. 👍 Came to this whilst listening to 4. Must remember to like more of your videos. Always a delight!
Great man, fantastic music (from straight pop to pure avant garde creations)! It can make you happy, it can make you cry. But all with pure and good/real feeling and emotion. I will miss him talking and making music! Rest In Peace mr. Scott Engel ✌✌✌
When they were designing Scott Walker, they accidentally loaded avant garde software into a crooner model, but we’re all better off for it.
Good words.

Damn is right! Scott's passing hit me just as hard as Bowie's death! 😞
If it wasn't Bowie's/Ziggy's chilling performance of My Death, I would have never known who S. Walker was.
Cathy T for me, it was when Bowie did Nite Flights. If you haven't seen it already, check out the documentary " 30 Century Man"

Thanks for doing this video Dereck.
Scott 4 is my favourite album in the lineup.

Dereck, if the world were as open-minded as you, things would be much improved. ..
Thanks for taking the time to honor such a great artist.
I found your channel back when through your insanely charming review of Bish Bosch-and subscribed immediately, of course. I am sorry for our loss. xo
you can only go so high, then you have to come right back down, well said sir.
thanks so much , Scott was loved all around the world! regards Helen Carroll , Sydney,Australia
Thank you for your commentary about one of the greats!
Just getting into Scott Walker, not sure how he didn’t get on my radar as I love people like Beefheart. Thanks for this

Hi Dereck. A massive loss, he was pushing boundaries right up to his most recent work.
RIP to one of my favorite artists ever

The first time I’ve heard of Scott Walker was from the book “Secret History Of Rock ‘N’ Roll.” A legend will be missed.

I don’t know what to say , apart from : thank you , both . RIP Scott .
Scott 4 was an amazing album. The man was blessed. A true genius, like Mark Hollis
Scott Walker was a tremendous avant- garde artist.
Scott has only recently come onto my scope. I discovered him via the work he did with SunnO))) and have been in love with his voice ever since.
This is very sad news My daughter who is only 21 and I are fans of Scott Walker and have his album The Drift Amazing artist who will be missed
His version of "i have dreamed" is superb.
No one traveled a more diverse path in his musical career. When he went over to the avant garde it was almost like Andy Williams changing into Captain Beefheart. I loved all of his stuff.

Scott died on the 22nd not 25th. And yes he was perfect in every way. Arlene xx

My reaction was the same when I found out. I just loved Scott's Jacques Brel covers. His version of My Death is even better than Brel's.
Do you have the album, Spotlight On Scott Walker ? If not Grab it. I have loads of Scott Walker . Cut me up to find out he had Died too.
A sad day.
ThxD ◼
Thanks Dereck and yes they're manna from heaven, indeed.
Thanks, Lord Sir H, from the other side of the puddle.
the best vinyl pressing of climate of hunter is the first ( one with the lyric inner- the mid price lp reissue sounds terrible)
till the band comes in also has some wonderful moments
Tilt on vinyl! That´s an expensive piece nowadays.

Damn is right. Amazing artist indeed.
