@@danielbenavides3337 as I see things through the lens of Christianity, it seems to be showing an end times style storyline. There is a Black Hole Sun, where a deity is poised to enter our Realm. there is a child who is innocent and spared from the destructive times via a Rapture of sorts. I see the movement of the deity as the procession of the stars, which are for signs and times. I see a powerful dangerous figure Trapped In Chains, two upon release immediately cause destruction.I see a powerful figure, trapped in chains, being laughed at by demons. This person breaks their bonds and through self sacrifice, destroys the power of the oppressor/manipulator, who seems to breathe/feed off of the negative emotions of the humans. I see the deity take note of the occurances below, and open door to enter, bringing a golden age of peace. I suppose I could be reading way too much into it, but that is just how my mind works I guess.
"I'm an ugly bore..." "lying on the cold floor..." "Waiting for the tide to rise..." the vocal part has stuff about his father a lot I think, but I can only make out: "Oh my father doesn't love her (or me) Oh my father doesn't love her"
It's funny, I remember when this song first came out I was really disappointed. I watched the video and I was absolutely horrified. I absolutely loathed this song and its video and expressed vehement hatred for this new image the Strokes were going for. However, at the same time, it all intrigued me. My history with this song is very complex. I just listened to it now for the first time in what seems like forever and now I think I'm thinking differently about this song. Perhaps I misjudged it. Now I'm seeing the emotional value in it and I'm understanding why it resonates with everyone else. So yeah, I don't hate this song anymore. It's growing on me. Maybe that was the point; this song is very complex and so is its video, which I still have mixed feelings on, but now I can safely say I like this song.
Now that I realised why I fell in love in this song was becaus I was depressed at that time, and this song just feels like how I was feeling at that time. Love it😁
I can't escape it I'm never gonna make it out of this in time I guess that's just fine I'm not there quite yet My thoughts, such a mess Like a little boy What you runnin' for? Run at the door Anyone home? Have I lost it all? Struck me like a chord I'm an ugly boy Holdin' on the night Lonely after light You begged me not to go Sinkin' like a stone Use me like an oar And get yourself to shore Bang at the door Anyone home? That's just what they do Right in front of you Like a cannonball Slammin' through your wall In their face, I saw What they're fightin' for I can't escape it I'm never gonna make it till the end, I guess Struck me like a chord I'm an ugly boy Holdin' on the night Lonely after light Bangin' on the door I don't wanna know Sinkin' like a stone So use me like an oar Onto fight what I can't see Not tryna build no dynasty I can't see beyond this wall But we lost this game so many times before I've been on a cold road I'll be waiting I'll be waiting for the old times Waiting for the time to pass I've been on a cold road I'll be waiting for the old times Waiting for the time to pass
These lyrics hit me like a truck.
I haven’t cried from a song in like a decade, but this song just gets to me. This is art!
"im not there quite yet" anybody that has delt with addiction has said this to a loved one. So sad and powerful to hear.
The video and song together are powerful.
If I may, what do you think the video means?

Nice...even though I'm not Christian, I approve your video interpretation.
i get nothing from the video lol
I love that this song came out during the pandemic. Civilization was sinking like a stone..
With my interpretation, "That's just what they do. Right in front of you." Ugh, chills.
"I'm an ugly bore..."
"lying on the cold floor..."
"Waiting for the tide to rise..."

You can get through whatever you’re dealing with!!!! Stay strong! 😀
Nice job, but the lyrics at the end are, "I'll be waiting from the other side, waiting for the tide to rise." 🙂

I am lucky I watched the video first .
It's hard to explain
Many of The Strokes songs are like this
when he goes “onto fight what i cant see” oh f##
Now that I realised why I fell in love in this song was becaus I was depressed at that time, and this song just feels like how I was feeling at that time. Love it😁
i love this song.
Anybody know what he’s saying at the start of 3:40?
@@toneohm215 actually its a AutoPitcher, probably from a Roland Jd-Xi or something... maybe he is singing some games' part
Sounds like the chorus to me. Just with longer, held notes.
I think it’s backwards words
@@andrealol3194 I also think so!
I think he said “ take my sorrow, taste of sorrow, unknown “ lol
Damn near perfect
Julian, you are not fooling me. Everything you do brings Moshiach. See you at 770.
if you guys notice the outro where Jules singing
it's exactly or nearly the same as outro Adults are Talking.
Struck me like a chord , made me feel like a child again , difficult x, but very cleverlyrics very emotional song x
I can't escape it
I'm never gonna make it out of this in time
I guess that's just fine
I'm not there quite yet
My thoughts, such a mess
Like a little boy
What you runnin' for?
Run at the door
Anyone home?
Have I lost it all?
Struck me like a chord
I'm an ugly boy
Holdin' on the night
Lonely after light
You begged me not to go
Sinkin' like a stone
Use me like an oar
And get yourself to shore
Bang at the door
Anyone home?
That's just what they do
Right in front of you
Like a cannonball
Slammin' through your wall
In their face, I saw
What they're fightin' for
I can't escape it
I'm never gonna make it till the end, I guess
Struck me like a chord
I'm an ugly boy
Holdin' on the night
Lonely after light
Bangin' on the door
I don't wanna know
Sinkin' like a stone
So use me like an oar
Onto fight what I can't see
Not tryna build no dynasty
I can't see beyond this wall
But we lost this game so many times before
I've been on a cold road
I'll be waiting
I'll be waiting for the old times
Waiting for the time to pass
I've been on a cold road
I'll be waiting for the old times
Waiting for the time to pass
Came from Phinneas tweet
Is it “waiting for the time to pass” or “waiting for the tide to rise”?
one in the same, some would say !
Lying on a cold floor. And waiting for the tide to rise. They got it wrong here
i think its “im not dead quite yet”
That’s it
Struck me like a cord.
