yeah it's hard to find a good reference when the pose you're looking for is so specific, which is why I rarely use references when drawing my comics. But if I was working on a more detailed illustration then I would actually start by finding good reference photos, and then decide my composition based on what I've found. also I agree that life drawing is such a vital thing to practice when it comes to inventing poses. Lucking there's a good in-person life drawing thing near me (downtown Toronto) that is for animation students, so the poses are all really short (mostly 30s to 5 min), great for gesture practice.
Ohh really? What is this LD thing? I may try to attend sometime 😂 It's been shamefully long since I've done LD in person. And yess I agree, for comics it's a waste of time to look for refs.
