Yes thats the top half the the other half screws out the same way or you could jus unscrew the whole sensor as 1 unit it looks like the pic in the thumbnail of this video
Ok i know a bad speed sensor would make a automatic car act like that but the slow down part didn't happen to me with my manual transmission. Go ahead and change that sensor tho hopefully it fixes the issue

Do you have to pull the whole thing out or can you just pull the top part of the sensor and replace that part the chip board on my broke and came out of the sensor housing
The gear spines on the bottom half gets worn-out over time. If yours not that bad i would just replace the top . I replaced the whole thing on mine tho.

I have this p0501 code on my mk4 1.8t speedo stopped working and the car tends to slow down fast when releasing the gas. Same issue by any chance?

Did your speedo work? I’m getting this code in vcds but my speedo still works. Also it’s under hvac so that’s weird too
After replacing the sensor yes . Ur sensor might be goin so it triggering the code . Reset it and see
