My dad has suffered from horrible Crohns since he was a teenager. Multiple surgeries. He adopted a carnivore diet over the summer with me. He is off all of his meds. No symptoms. Feels incredible. But he ended up eating some veggies the other day, and found himself with bowel obstruction. His eyes are open now that he has to stay on this narrow road. Thanks Anthony for all you do. You are saving lives. You’ve changed mine and now my dad. God bless you

Good for you. ‘carnivore’ did nit work for my mother, or for me. BTW, I was NOT told to eat masses of greens and little meat. I am surprised any doctors would say that. In fact VERY surprised to the point of disbelief. I was advised to carefully analyze what I ate to ascertain whether there was an allergy. There did not seem to be in my case.
The advice I had that worked for me (for decades) was to eat a balanced diet including meat and vegetables but only ‘whole’ foods… not over-processed sh.. (my term!).
‘red meat and water’ made me iller. I eat a balanced diet, don’t smoke or drink alcohol. The only thing I have noticed about eating veg is that if I eat too much raw (as opposed to cooked) vegetables I get cramps - otherwise no problem with vegetables. No one diet seems to work fir everyone, it is irresponsible to claim it will . I know someone who lives healthily on only meat, many more with Crohn’s who eat a balanced diet and are well. For me too much bread is not good, neither is none. Over processed foods like soy curds (tofu) are bad for me, perhaps not for others.

I cant wait to tell the GI in my next appointment that I'm on the Chaffee Protocol. Its going to spread like wild fire. Next T-shirt slogan 😝Thank you Doc. Coming from someone who's had Crohn's for 24 years, its so important to have video's like this to reiterate that it does bloody work. GI's unfortunately to want to think outside the box because the reality is they'll lose $ if people start feeling better by doing Carnivore. Ill let you know their reaction to the Protocol 😂

After nearly 30 years of debilitating, ulcerative colitis and doctors telling me there was no cure and just to take their drugs I found that carnivore gave me my life back! Within two weeks, I was practically symptom-free and for the first time in all these years, my gut was not bleeding! I can't tell you how many times I've had to change my clothing because of accidents! I had to drive all these years with a potty bucket in my car in case of an emergency. i've had to pull over and run into the woods! I've had the worst pain over eating one bite of the wrong food. My doctors did me a huge disservice and when I asked if diet made a difference, they always said no! Something needs to change because people should not have to suffer. I used Humira for eight years and every drug you can imagine and the side effects were worse than dealing with the disease. I'm finally free and I just can't believe how amazing this has been! Not only that I'm finally able to lose some weight and I've dropped a full size. I have another size or two to go, but that doesn't even matter as much as feeling as good as I do. I also add fibromyalgia, chronic migraines, acne, athletes foot, brain fog, and all of those are nearly gone. I am only 71 days in! oh and I've paid for some very expensive programs to get healing plus years of seeing naturopathic doctors. I've been well on my journey for a long time and eliminating things so this is something I'm used to doing. For anybody that struggles with eliminating foods just think of it this way, "what CAN I have? What gives me the best life?" And know that you are worth it! Somebody just told me to give it 90 days. Well, give it at least 30 if you can't do 90. It will change your life.

I was diagnosed over 25 years ago. I have had several surgeries and have tried a number of medication driven treatments before arriving at a low/no carb diet that focuses on meat. Not entirely carnivore but dang close. The exact cause of Crohn’s Disease is largely unknown. Genetics, environment, medications, or other factors within the gut. Even removal of the appendix could lead to factors that increase risk of Crohn’s.
A “bad diet” is not the cause.

Well I’m definitely not an expert or even a doctor but I can definitely recognize the evidence seen. The food I was eating was killing me and definitely aggravating my Crohn’s, does that mean it was the cause? Who knows but what I do know is by changing the food I ate I was cured and btw, so was my IBS that I suffered with for over 30 years. So food did fix it. There are also many people in the carnivore community that have had the exact same results as I have. Cause and effect?

I had gastric problems my entire childhood and finally diagnosed at 25. By 30, I was having so much pain and multiple ER trips. At age 33, I found the SCD diet and it was the first time anyone ever told me that diet mattered. I had remission of symptoms in 2 weeks. However, my symptoms didn't totally stay away as I gradually added more and more plants amd raw food back in, thinking that was the ultimate goal to have a healthy gut. Fast forward to early last year when I heard about Carnivore at age 42. Cutting out plants was the best thing ever for my gut. I will still have a bit of plant food now but stay more ketovore. Most meals are carnivore though and I feel amazing. I meet so many people that won't even entertain the thought of restricting their diet. If I hadn't hit my limit of pain, I wonder how much harder it would have been to change? My moment of change really came in the middle of a painful episode when I couldn't get out of the bathroom to make my 3 year old lunch. I questioned my ability to stay healthy enough to take care of him. It was then I decided to dig deeper than what the doctors told me. I'm forever grateful that regular people put their stories out there for others to find. Keep spreading the word!!

I am 67 years old now. When I was a child as far back as I can remember I was always sickly. I would vomit up my breakfast almost daily. And felt nauseous every day except when I didn’t eat. Then at about 12 years of age I started doing better until my early to mid twenties. Somewhere around that time I started having bowel problems and the nausea and vomiting returned. I went to the doctor and after about ten weekly visits, tests and astronomical medical bills for my employer, I was told that I had IBS, severe irritable bowel syndrome, a constant low grade fever, blood in the urine, a kidney stone, chone’s like symptoms, ulcerative colitis, possibly cancer and that I would never get better and that my bowel was constricted down to less than a quarter of an inch. They needed to remove my large intestine and a part of my small intestine and give me a colostomy bag. I refused and stopped seeing doctors for several years. I instinctively stopped eating bread but suffered from severe diarrhea and fatigue for the next 18 years and was on disability for eight of those years. During that period of my life I also grew six tumors and diligently studied herbal medicine and the use of food as a treatment for diseases. I did have 4 of those tumors surgically removed and 2 of them shrank and eventually disappeared from the change in diet and the use of herbs. I also bought a glucometer and discovered that my blood sugar range went from 40 to over 400 when I ate. I went to the doctor and had my blood sugar tested and he said it was in the normal range and didn’t believe me. I also often had the lining of my mouth peeling off for no apparent reason. I finally quit eating grains and had some relief and returned to work. As a career carpenter I had a client who was a doctor and soon we became friends. He and his daughters had celiac disease. And his youngest daughter said one of her symptoms was that if she ate anything with gluten the inside of her mouth would peel. And the doctor and both of the daughters had chronic diarrhea. We decided that I have celiac disease. I began eating a gluten free low carb diet with limited improvement. I still was nauseous and vomitted a lot but had much less bowel symptoms. However my health was still not good. And I was still struggling. I got another glucometer and was now a diabetic. I was put on Metformin and it made me feel sick and I was not able to lower my glucose level to normal by following the doctor recommendations. Then I saw Dr. Berry and Dr. Chaffee on RUclips and began keto and saw my blood sugar go normal. So I quit the medication and told my doctor and he was okay with it. I am now carnivore for over 2 years. I still have some problems but am so much better. Although I got the Covid vaccine and then got Covid and now I think I have long Covid because I suffer from chronic fatigue. But I feel better when I increase my fat intake. Thanks to the doctors who are truly interested in helping people. God bless you.

With doctors like my sister and her husband, the issue is that there is so much arrogance and aggression built into the idea that they know what they’re doing, that there just isn’t the curiosity or compassion to give new information a chance if it isn’t coming directly from a very very specific source. It’s extremely dangerous.

@ And when they don’t know, that’s supposed to be ok. Medicine is supposed to be a scientific field, and a huge part of the foundation of scientific discovery is having the humility to admit ignorance of something. Then to have the curiosity to learn. I don’t get mad at doctors for not knowing things. I get mad at them for lacking the humility, and compassion to be curious enough to learn something new that might make them better at being able to provide care.

I've been diagnosed with Crohns back in 2021. I am 42. The symptoms were severe. Never took any meds. I started GAPS protocol where you initially start with only meat and bone broth and later introduce veg etc. It cleared within couple of months. Had another flare up(even bigger one a year later). Tried SCD diet and did the same thing. Now 1.5h later i am having a mild flare up with diarrhoea and blood in stool. I started Strict Carnivore 18 days ago. Not getting any results as for now. I would say it is actually getting worse. From my experience though, I know that before things get better, you sometimes need to hit rock bottom. I will continue as long as I have to. At the moment I gave myself 3-6 months. Fingers crossed 🤞

She seemed genuinely shocked that anyone could live without it. They're not all bad, as far as the actual surgery they saved my life, but when it comes to nutrition you better save yourself.

The lesson here is to educate yourself. Guide your doctor and ask questions. If your doctor pushes you, change doctors. Challenge rapid fire suggestions of the usual suspect medication treatments. Sometimes, doctors and even nutritionists are working with bad, incomplete, and even wrong information.
Well before finding good info like the doc here, I transitioned to a largely meat based diet. It was trial and error. This worked to control and almost eliminate flare-ups. Years ago, I removed all sugar and any over processed food. This combined with meat was an absolute game changer. It’s very sad that you can still find diet recommendations in a simple Google search related to Crohn’s disease. You have to be your own advocate and do what you see and know what works for you. However, I speak from over 26 years of experience that starting with meat and removing sugar will get you 95% of the way there.

Imagine leaving med school residency to practice and not make a difference while the corporate surgery owners and pharma reps hold a gun to your head, yet holding on to the “prestige” of the label “doctor” - but horribly in debt. Hi @Anthony ChaffeeMD. I am 66 yr old female. I have struggled with so many inflammation issues since I was a young child. My mom was 47 yrs when I came along.... the "Chef Surprise" they called me. My mom had some issues (i don't recall what they were) and the but her doctor of the time gave her an upper and a downer during her pregnancy with me. I was premature and was hospitalized for a month before coming home. I have always had terrible roaming body pain, repeated & severe chest infections, concentration issues, candida, back and forth bowel issues, fatigue, low energy, tinnitus,
& depression. There's a lot more... I could fill a book. Im quite overweight.... about 40 lbs.
I've been trying to stay carnivore but these dam sugar cravings get me all the time. I'm going through a divorce and I know I'm an emotional eater. I especially crave sweets late at night but also
especially right after I eat a carnivore meal. So frustrating. Eggs often don't sit right in my belly these days. I used to love them and thought that I had no problem. About 7 yrs ago I lived in India for 6 months. I was at a yoga center and lost about 30 lbs. I also traveled to Nepal, where I'm sure I picked up some intestinal bug. A month after arriving back to Canada I got bitten by a brown recluse spider. In 1 week (on antibiotics) I almost died. I had an operation and had to be on intravenous antibiotics for 2 months.
I struggle every single day. I want so much to be well. I work with disabled people till 1am plus look after my granddaughter every week day. By Sunday, my one day off I'm just spent. Can you recommend anything to take away cravings? I know like I know I will feel like a new human being if I could just get over this hump. Thank you for any help you can give. ❤ thank you for all these amazing stories of transformation. ❤🎉

Try cutting out everything except beef, lamb, and water. It makes a huge difference. Dairy can be very problematic for autoimmune issues like you see, and cold cuts could even be problematic as you don't know exactly what they add to them in the processing off the cold cuts. Most people do exceptionally well on ruminant meat and water though, so beef, lamb, and water for best results. Super high fat, try to get more than one gram of fat to every one gram of protein, even as much as two grams of fat to 1 g of protein. Good luck!

    • @idahoviking
      @idahoviking Месяц назад +4

@@anthonychaffeemd I just now did the math to simplify... AI says ground beef with 30% fat and 70% lean has 14 grams protein per 100 grams meat. Given 30 grams fat per 100 grams total, this means that 30% fat ground beef gives roughly your target 2/1 fat/protein ratio. When I was a kid in the 60's, 30% fat ground beef was "the standard". That's what everybody ate. And... it's exactly what ya need. This raises the question "Why was 30% fat the standard? Did those ancient people know something?"

Chiropractor here. I have my convictions on prevention and remission of chronic diseases through a proper human diet. I currently work in a clinic where I’m asked never to speak on diet with my patients. My employers are aware about my carnivore diet habits. The other week we had a patient come in describing her “advice” given for her Crohn’s diagnosis: drink a glass of water before every meal, then eat her first half of meal which should be vegetables and then have some meat as the other half of a meal. Although she’s coming in for back pain, I understand that having Crohn’s is a complicating factor with her prognosis of back pain.
Not to mention, the idea to drink water prior is so wrong as that will then dilute the bolus and decrease it absorption

What do you recommend to transition into a carnivore diet? All in day one or start with keto and go gradually into carnivore?

    • @Kyarrix
      @Kyarrix Месяц назад +2

It depends on your current diet.
Do you eat fast food or processed food? Do you eat sweets? Do you put sugar in your coffee? What kinds of things do you eat now?
If you eat the standard American diet, processed food, fast food, packaged food then some degree of gradual transition might be useful.
      .
The reason for that is if you're eating the standard American diet a carnivore diet will be a significant change, kind of a shock to your system.
If you are eating a healthier diet, meat, cheese, some fruit and vegetables, but avoiding processed food, processed carbohydrates, fast food, sugar sweetened drinks, if you're avoiding all of that then you can probably ease into carnivore in a few days.
Be honest with yourself though. No one is going to judge you here. If you want to respond and tell me what your diet is like I can give you more specific direction and recommendations.
What kind of carnivore diet do you want to do? Are you going for the stricter version, that is the lion diet, you eat ruminant meat, salt and water only.
Many do this as a way of healing. It is an exclusion diet, you can then add other foods in, one at a time and you'll know which things trigger problems, what you are sensitive to. There are a lot of channels on RUclips if you're interested in the lion diet I would recommend ferrigno freedom, he's been doing the lion diet for several years and it has made a tremendous difference in his life. He lost 100 lb, he doesn't look like the same person his physical health has improved tremendously but so has his emotional health, his psychological health. He describes it very well.
If you plan on eating a more standard carnivore diet, that can include eggs, poultry, other kinds of meat and for some, dairy. Dairy can be a problem for many. If you continue to have issues and you're eating dairy stop the dairy for 30 days and see if they resolve.
If you do decide to eat dairy, try to limit it to heavy cream in your coffee (be sure you get heavy cream that doesn't have any additives like carrageenan. There should only be one ingredient in heavy cream)
It is very easy to overeat cheese, try to limit cheese to a condiment, a slice of cheese on your burger or an ounce of cheese with your steak. Try not to make it something that you eat a lot of or everyday. People do the carnivore diet and they find themselves eating several ounces of cheese or eating whole blocks of it. It is easy to eat too much cheese especially if you like it.
There's additional information I can give you but I don't know what your diet is like right now. You'll find people in the carnivore community are usually pretty helpful. It's good to stick together and help each other.
It's important to get enough fat in your diet. We have been told that fat is the enemy, that fat is bad, many who start the carnivore diet gravitate to leaner cuts of meat. Don't do that. You need enough fat to be successful at this. Go for fattier cuts of meat. If you are eating a lean cut of meat try to add some fat to it, butter works for that if you aren't sensitive to dairy.
Dr Chaffee discusses this issue in many of his videos.

I'd say give up sugar seed oils and processed foods first for several months. After that you'll find you domt crave it and eating meat only becomes like second natire6

@@Carnivore1959 I don't think there's a need to give it up for several months first. It depends on their diet. Even if they're eating an awful diet I don't think it should take months to change.

Hi Mitchell / Chaffee - PLEASE HELP.
I just watched your full interview and had a question regarding something you mentioned about having gut cramps. Were you experiencing difficulty going to the bathroom, or were you going too frequently? In my case, I never experienced cramps, and I'm not fully in remission yet. I tried the carnivore diet for a month, and unfortunately, things worsened for me. I've tried it with all different meats (red, chicken, fish) plus eggs, and butter. Interestingly, after that month, I reintroduced rice and vegetables, and that’s when I noticed the best results in terms of gut function since I was diagnosed. It almost felt like the carnivore diet helped reset my gut, but during the trial, my inflammation actually worsened. My calprotectin level went above 1,100 during the carnivore diet, and then dropped to 100 a week after I stopped.
I’m not sure if my Crohn's is the same type as yours, which is why I’m asking these questions. Any insights or advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
It looks like red meat causes more inflammation in my case.
    Thank you!
